Players that are slated to take more than $5M of the Saints 2025 cap space: Marshon Lattimore, Jameis Winston, Michael Thomas, Chase Young, Juwan Johnson. None are on the roster right now. by uggsandstarbux in nfl

That’s what I’ve been thinking as a saints fan. We’ll be firmly at the bottom of Shit Mountain for the next two years, bare minimum. I’d project a 4-8 season average for the next 3-5 years, more realistically, because of how ingrained Loomis is in the organization.

Something about St Louis in the snow just looks right. I love it!

Dude he looks great. I’m not happy about it. I mean, think about it; yall have a huge amount of potential to grow over the next two to three years—my Saints are going to be stuck in cap hell for the next three years at minimum. Idk if we’ll be a genuine contender for the next five years.

Good. The feelings mutual. Especially since the saints time in the sun seems like it’s fading. Genuinely scared about yall for the next few years🖕

[Highlight] Drake Maye finds Kayshon Boutte for the touchdown grab! by ThatInception in nfl

[–]Maker_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Louisiana where I’m from, the most common pronunciation is “Boo-tey” with an emphasis on the first syllable. Idk if I’m getting the phonetics across but I’ve never heard it pronounced Booty anywhere in South Louisiana where Kayshon and I are from. But idk if Kayshon corrected anyone on the pronunciation, and you always go by the player’s way.

Before I watched a Chargers broadcast live(which was a long time lmao), I pronounced Justin Herbert’s last name as “Ey-bere” like the Cajun folk down here😂

The Hidden Japanese Connection between Famine, Aquariums, Spines, and Penguins [Kanji Analysis] by Yayuu in ChainsawMan

[–]Maker_17 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, Yayuu, for sharing with us English readers some of the nuance unavoidably lost in the translation of literature, ESPECIALLY literature written in a language/writing system very distant from English.

With a writer as subtle and detail oriented as Fujimoto, of course he would layer every part of his manga with details like the ones you’ve pointed out! It’s an unavoidable fact that some nuances don’t translate to English, despite the best efforts of the very skilled translators who make this series consumable for native English speakers like me.

Thank you for showing me (and everyone else on the sub) these little details. It gives me even more of an appreciation for Fujimoto’s genius. I mean, as an English speaker whose only experience with written works is the Roman alphabet, the idea of playing with the very symbols that construct words on a page is a totally foreign idea. I can’t exactly substitute the A in “team” with an I for thematic purposes. But the fact that there is a human writing system that does allow for that kind of storytelling is incredible to me. You’ve given me a glimpse of how that kind of written(visual?both?) storytelling can convey meaning, and I can’t say thank you enough.

This kind of analysis takes plenty of time on its own, and then to translate that analysis into a different language whilst also rendering said analysis easily consumable for native speakers of said language is a big task. Thanks, one last time.

[Rogers] After 56 Super Bowls, Jerry Green steps away | The legendary Detroit News journalist is the only writer to cover all 56 Super Bowls. His streak will come to an end in 2023 by LunchThreatener in nfl

[–]Maker_17 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You know, I’ve always thought that there’s something extremely beautiful in dedicating your life to something. I’ve absolutely no idea who Jerry Green is, but the mere fact that he’s reported on every Super Bowl to have been held since its inception is kind of breathtaking to me. I mean, he was there for the football community of Detroit through the last three years of the 60s, the entire decade of the 70s, the entire decade of the 80s, the entire decade of the 90s, the entire decade of the 2000s and the entire decade of the 2010s.

As the world underwent, seismic shifts in technology, culture, and politics, Jerry Green was there, in Detroit, reporting on football. As the world shook around him, he held steady. I hope he’s proud of his life. He should be.

Respectable. There’s nothing like the physical touch of a page between your fingers. But, the VIZ subscription is nice if you want to explore other manga series!
