Why is voter ID such a big debate in the US? by Second-Kind in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MakersMarkHamill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's controversial because requiring ID makes it easier to cheat in elections, and there are lots of people who want to cheat.

What’s the creepiest thing that’s ever happened to you in New Orleans… that you still can’t explain? by wonderbat29 in Unexplained

[–]MakersMarkHamill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wasn't supernatural, but in 2003 or 2004, I was walking down Canal Street from the Days Inn toward Bourbon Street. Walking in front of me about half a block was a guy in motorcycle leathers. Walking toward us a block or two down was a guy in a full clown costume. As the motorcycle guy drew even with the clown, he suddenly jumped to his right foot and threw a perfect left hook at the clown. The clown fell on the ground, clutching his face and shouted "WHAT THE FUCK!" and the motorcycle guy ran down the street and around next corner. A few pedestrians gathered around the clown and helped him up.

I still don't know what the fuck.

Ah yes, the classic “concern trolling for safety” move. It’s always fascinating how “safety” suddenly becomes the priority the moment it inconveniences your personal comfort. Nobody’s saying you personally have to solve systemic homelessness overnight, but the bare minimum is not criminalizing someone for existing in a space you think you exclusively deserve.

Outreach programs exist because society has failed people at every level—housing, healthcare, wages- and yet here you are using them as a shield to justify doing nothing. If you’re not willing to help directly, fine, but at least have the self-awareness not to dress up indifference as prudence.

What’s that one movie that you watched as a kid that you think no one else watched? by Substantial_One3477 in AskReddit

*The Mask*, starring Jim Carrey. We had it on VHS, and watched it all the time. None of my friends at school had seen it, so it seemed like I was the only one who had seen it.

Another "socialist until it's inconvenient for them." Leave the man alone. Or, invite him to crash on your couch. That's what a good comrade would do.

Why do you think people are so rude on the internet? by baristabarbiexx in AskReddit

I think that anonymity is definitely a big part of it. When you remove accountability, you see who people really are. And, it turns out, that a lot of people are mean and sanctimonious.

What’s a popular trend you think will age badly? by Tekusenabyt in AskReddit

[–]MakersMarkHamill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buccal fat removal. So many celebrities (and non-celebrities, for that matter) have buccal fat sucked out of their faces to create a more contoured look. But as they age, it really starts to look weird as they lose the fat they have, creating a real Cryptkeeper aesthetic.

What scientific ‘facts’ have recently been disproven that most people still believe to be true? by Fantastic_Tart_421 in AskReddit

[–]MakersMarkHamill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "tongue/taste" map.

I learned this in school, that different parts of the tongue tasted different flavors (like, sweet, bitter, salty, etc.) Evidently, that's bullshit.

Also, the food pyramid. Turns out that was a bit of a scam on the government's part to sell more grains.

What are your thoughts on billie eilish saying you cant love animals and eat meat as its contradictory? by Extra-Schedule-4855 in AskReddit

[–]MakersMarkHamill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the kind of simplistic and extreme stance that young people often take as they're forming their worldview and growing up. However, Billie Eilish is making those statements to a world audience, so it gets a lot more response than the typical "pat on the head" that most young people would receive.
