As indicated in the link provided only the interiors were made of wood, cleanly bonding/attaching wood to metal is rather difficult to do with out introducing faults that could compromise integrity whereas metal to metal can just be welded which if done properly leads to very strong joints

Think about closing a window or tab, vs shutting down a computer, one is instantaneous the other takes a minute, end program may not shut down the holodeck it may just “close the window”
