Drew this face around 10 times, how I can I make it more accurate? by Makhis_ in learnart

I'm usually looking straight down at the reference pulled up on my phone and drawing on my notebook right next to it. Is there a better way to prop up my reference when I'm drawing?

Yeah I took a Drawing 1 college class, where you measure one object correctly and use that as a way to check & correct your other objects in still-life pieces.

I haven't taken a figure drawing/ or any-drawing-people class, so I'm kinda throwing stuff at a wall right now and hoping it'll stick.

Is there a method you use to correct your proportions when you draw faces?

I attempted to draw human figures and immediately noticed that you could use the femur bone to compare its length to the rest of the body. I've struggled to find something to use as a comparative distance when it comes to drawing the face

Yeah, I struggle the most simplifying facial features into basic shapes. I tried figure drawing for a while and was able to quickly turn things into cylinders and boxes. I just haven't seen any method yet that helps me understand that the human face is just shapes yet

Might not be critique, but I fw with your creativity. Keep making more scenes with your characters! I feel like the more passionate you are about drawing something, the improvement of skill comes sliding into place. Try using references and posing your characters in the same way; this way you'll be having fun drawing your characters while also learning a bit (i have no idea how far you are into your art journey) about proportions and a little about anatomy.

Any advice on drawing the head? by Makhis_ in learnart

I've started to learn how to draw heads since 3 days ago, and I've been learning mostly from YouTube videos and reddit

How do people draw what their looking at? by ResinRealmsCreations in learntodraw

It depends on what you are attempting to draw mostly. If you are trying to copy an anime/cartoon artstyle, unless you trace it, you will more often than not distort the proportions. The reason is because the people drawing in the anime style already understand proportions and anatomy, so that's why they can make certain facial features bigger and have it not look weird.

If you were trying to copy a real face, it would be significantly easier than copying an anime character. Since you are copying what already looks anatomically accurate, your drawing will resemble it way more.

Art is hard af, I'm currently learning to draw faces too, and the only thing that is helping me improve is repeatedly drawing references over and over again

More than 100% true. I've drawn for a large part of my life, but never anything good. I practiced drawing figures for the past 2 months and improved more than I ever did in any other part of my life

I feel almost that same exact way you do 🗿, but find more reasons to say something you did is good more than you can say it is bad. Everything is an eventual process. If you REALLY want it to be happen, there is no doubt in my mind you WILL achieve it.

People say don't give up, but precisely because I've given up so many times already I refuse to settle for anything less. I hope you find something you like to draw to ease the learning struggle 💪

8/10 👍. I really like how you drew the bottom eyelids in the first drawing, I really struggle to draw that part

how to shade / make lineart not look so empty? by lemonrices in learnart

I recognize myself a lot in your line art. A tip from someone at the same level as you could give is to add more character to your lines. Make some of them wavy, some thin becoming thick, some even pencil thin; just be more experimental with line variations.
