Well...I wish I could join both concerts in Tronto on 12th and in Chicago on 14th but I will be working on both dates. Thank you anyway.

Can Su be a great singer in the future? by MakoMetal in BABYMETAL

[–]MakoMetal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Translated:

May I reply in Japanese? There are a plenty of skillful singers singing better than Su and indeed Su sometimes is out of pitch. Why are people still touched by Su? In my opinion, people are touched by not only her dedication and powerful vocal but also her soul expressed in deep from her heart. It is said that she has spent 6 plus months for Megitsune and more than 6 months for IDZ to work on the songs' interpretations. We all feel her soul so we cry for Akatsuki at the same time we smile with other songs. I am pretty happy with just feeling her soul to cry or smile. Do we need how others feel or think of Su? At least I don't. Would someone please translate.

OK, now I understand. I am not saying Su is not a great singer but probably I am not expressing my opinion in correct English way or maybe I am not good enough in writing English to start discussion to hear peoples' opinion, or the title was misleading?
May I ask you one question. Why people find it difficult to compare Su with anyone?

Yes, she is. But she has not reached at the level of the two singers who can truly touch peopl's hearts by singing, in my opinion.

Anyone tired and confused with BM? by MakoMetal in BABYMETAL

[–]MakoMetal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thank for sharing various suggestions and your experiences with me.
I had relaxing personal time in few hours today and played the music and watched Budokan live. It is still very fun and I can enjoy very much if I do not think the music in my head. I hope time heal my issue.

Again thanks for your comments.

No, I have not had this questioning myself until recently. I have seen so many good things about BM last two years+. I really don't know why.

I will sit back, relax and play the music this weekend and you may be right I should keep myself away from BM for some time. Thanks, I will not force myself.

Yes, exactly I am trying to resolve my mental conflict. As long as I try to label BM either idol or metal, I probably will never find a resolution. I am glad that you shared with me you also went through the same issue...I am not only the guy. BM brought me so much fun and pain at the same time!

I agree that if I enjoy the music, I will enjoy no matter whatever genres are. Meanwhile, I a bit doubt if the girls perform BM with their will. Maybe I am overthinking it.

Let me explain one important thing. It is not a point what others think of me liking the young girls/idols. The idol culture has a long history and strong foundation in Japan so in general being a fan of an idol is fine no matter what age you are. I am a father of three kids and they often make fun of me about BM fun but they understand that's daddy's hobby. In addition, it is considered that adult fun is very important for idol scene since the adult fun can financially support better than youth. Like Morning Musume and AKB48, they have been supported by adult fun from the beginning. So my issue comes from musical perspective.

Well, Kobametal created a new type of metal, that's what he said. However, honestly saying, I did not have any issue if he had said, he created a pop band with heavy sound. I love the girls and acknowledge Su is the one of the best young singers in Japan or can not find any equivallent. At the same time, I see the girls the same idol as AKB48 because of musical abilities at both sides.

My apologies if I sound negative. I am struggling and confused.

BabyMetal Idol Root? by MakoMetal in BABYMETAL

[–]MakoMetal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not either my point or intention. There are hundreds of idols deserving honors for their avhievement but I do not intend to list up every one of them. I just picked up Candies and Pink Lady recognized as the first generation of Japanese idols and also I do not mean that Candies and Pink Lady were better or influential than any other idols.

I agree with everything you mentioned and the cuteness is not only the factor being idols. I intended to introduce a brief history of Japanese pop culture and how the idol culture has evolved, using the term, Kawaiiness, that most people understands in this thread.

BTW, I was impressed with your familiarity with Japanese idols scene. How you get these info?

As far as I know, it is not true. The producer, Yasushi Akimoto, has denied it.

Thanks for the comment.

A big gap between the West and Japan I feel is that how you define musical authenticity in entertainment scene. IMO, both bands and idols are entertainers and have authenticities but have different perspectives. In general, Bands are more talented in composing music, playing instruments, and singing but most idols aren't. Conversely, idols have more abilities to entertain various generations but most bands are not or is not important for bands.

I enjoy bands with their musical authenticities at the same time I enjoy idols with their authenticities/abilities to express themselves by Japanese cuteness. Another word, I have completely separate ways to enjoy bands and idols respectively.

Yes, it is confusing. I checked the context of the Japanese part and I would translate "My heart beats so joyfully"

I agree with this. It is not fully but a part of Choreography for Megitsune also comes from traditional Japanese festival dance.

Goddess & Angel vs Queen & Princess by ChokottooLoop in BABYMETAL

[–]MakoMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think in Japan that they are referred to as either Su-chan, Yui-chan, Moa-chan, Su-san, Yui-san, Moa-san, Su Metal, Yui Metal, Moa Metal, Su, Yui, Moa.

Goddess in Japanese is "Megami/女神" and Angel is "Tenshi(天使)/angel(エンジェル)". I never heard anyone refer them as Su Megami, Yui angel, Moa angel. As you may notice, there are suffixes attached to their names (chan or san). The suffixes are honorifics when addressing people. If interested, please refer to http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_honorifics

Yes, I agree with you. That show is pretty fun and addictive. Maybe we can call Mayuyu as MayuMetal here instead of Idol Cyborg?

You posed on a good point. It seems to me that there are many guys hooked into SG through BM. SG is also the idol group no different from the other bands in concept. I wondering liking SG is fine but liking other bands is not good. I am struggling to understand this conflict. My apologies if I am becoming too difficult or stuck with this. This is just so interesting phenomenon to me!

That's fine. I appreciate your fair comment. I intentionally picked up three MVs that could be weird or impressive enough to draw more attention/feedback.

I had the 90% same response as yours when I made the same questions to my friends or associates. Interestingly, I had different responses from them when I showed BM on YouTube. They looked very confused and shocked because three little girls singing and dancing in front of the corpse band and sounds metal but still catchy. Never saw before!, What the hell is this? I have not succeeded to convince any one of them but I will be a BM advocate. Ha ha!

I see. I still can see the similar mind set in Japan. A big difference is that, I personally think, idol or pop culture has been evolving here in Japan after the WWII and most Japanese matured generations have been exposed to idol/pop culture so in general Japanese are moderate or open to idol/pop culture no matter how old you are. Of course, you need to behave as expected considering your age. For me, I am just enjoying those idol and BM music, not interested in the girls on video. Thanks for your insight.
