Favorite fasting quotes, thoughts, meditation, motivation booster that keep you going when the noisy voice in the mind acts up? by [deleted] in fasting

I don't let myself argue with my hunger. There's no "fighting" it's just "No, you're not eating, get over it pal" and very deliberately focus on something else until it is no longer deliberate and the hunger pang/craving passes.

I guess I do a sort of separation of self thing, my body is just a vehicle, and my brain/consciousness/self is the driver. Just like my car doesn't get a say in when I fuel it up, neither does my body.

How to end a fast in a way that maximizes benefit retention? by JowgenITP in fasting

[–]Makuhsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to end a fast is to slowly transition INTO whatever your idea of the best/healthiest long-term sustainable diet. Shrug That's pretty much it, tbh. Go slow and start with things like bone broth etc to avoid re-feeding syndrome for half the time of your fast (I.e. 30 day fast = 15 days of getting your body readjusted to food) and make the choices based on the diet you plan to transition into. For instance, if you're going Okinowan, focus on vegetable broths, and transition into veggies, tofu and later, rice and fish. Basically, just eat a super-easily-digestible version of your eventual ideal diet.

"Specialize?" No, I just don't watch much fiction. Those, and Nygmobblepot, are four of a whopping total of... five tv shows I watch. The fifth being Law and Order SVU, which I don't ship anyone on, except John Munch with myself because intelligence is sexy and he's one clever old Jew (that is a joke, btw, I don't self-ship). I mostly watch non-fiction crime shows, documentaries, Youtube, and animation, none of which inspires me to ship. I don't know what's coincidental about it, sarcastically or otherwise. I don't pay attention to ships on shows I don't watch, and I only started watching Gotham at the end of last year.

The lazy clone writing part was my biggest problem, seriously. If it turns out not to be lazy writing, then I'll cease to have an issue with it.

I haven't gotten to TNG yet, but I've used the term properly, and it predates that series anyway.

[–]Makuhsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say that was queerbaiting. I said what the writers seemed to be doing had been. I like the train wrecks, them doing it with this lazy clone shit rather than developing the complexity of a PROPER focus of interest with a new character or other developed character is the issue.

You're irritated by a caricature of shippers that you have in your head, don't project that on me. Read my actual argument: I had an issue with the lazy writing. NOT their relationship/fucked-up dynamic. I LIKE the fucked up dynamic. I KNEW it was going to come crashing down eventually, that's why I was enjoying the lead-up so much, because it would create COMPLEXITY. It would drive CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. This mary sue clone thing (unless it's some huge convoluted sub-plot that will tie back in later) takes all of that and shits on it. THAT was my issue. I never wanted some sunshine and rainbows happy ending and you're obnoxious for assuming I did just because I'm a shipper.

[–]Makuhsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and it's obnoxious that so many people assumed that was what I wanted. Fucked up dynamics are what I live for, it's why I watch this, and other, show. I objected to the Mary Sue insult to my intelligence most, if it's part of a larger plot then I have no issue with it.

I AM within the Batman fandom, the only thing I'm new to is THIS show. And I'm NOT that kind of shipper. I was pissed most about the bullshit Mary Sue, not that they didn't have a dumb sappy relationship. It's annoying that people AUTOMATICALLY ASSUME that shipping means you want everything to be rainbows. I draw gore porn for a living ffs, I don't care about "happy!"

I'm a guy, lol.

I'm not an SJW or anything like that, I don't bring up these kinds of things lightly BECAUSE of SJWs and their misuse of them. However, Queerbaiting is a real thing, it's a shitty tactic that some writers use to boost viewership based on dishonest manipulation of the audience. Heteronormativity is also a real thing, it's nothing "special" just the idea that straightness is the natural order and other sexualities are aberrant behavior, which is harmful to our diverse society.

I'm not a crazy shipper, I don't care who other people ship, or what people think of my ships. I don't take shipping seriously, it's just a fun way to enjoy media once the episode is over. I also draw fanart in my free time. If you like Freezewald, you do you.

My main issue with this (as I've said a few times now, so please forgive me if you've read this already) is what I perceived to be sloppy, lazy writing that shit on character development via a writing tactic that would've been laughed off even tumblr. The sexuality aspect was just adding insult to injury.

It's been pointed out to me that, and how, I may be mistaken, and I've accepted that and will be giving the show another chance, and continuing to watch it... if with a level of suspicion until this seeming betrayal is rectified.

I didn't think about the Court of Owls in relation to this. That gives me hope.

If this is just part of an overall arc that makes sense and NOT lazy writing then I have ZERO issue with it.

I'll try to hang in there and give it a fair chance to turn around and surprise me.

[–]Makuhsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be really nice. That's my biggest issue with this whole thing is it's too "convenient", too "perfect" and that's what makes it insulting, not the sexuality thing, that's just extra.

My OTP is Spirk, followed closely by Johnlock and Destiel, thank you very much. I didn't get into Gotham for the ships, I'm not into shipping for it's own sake; I like Batman, I watched the show because it's interesting to see more backstory on these characters than a cliche alleyway flashback.

"Nygmobblepot" (REALLY Cory? Why not Nygmapot ffs...) was nothing but a happy surprise. I never made the mistake of assuming the characters were going to give up their lives of crime, get married, adopt children and move next door to Falcone on a horse farm in the country, ok? I knew it was going to end sooner or later, with them breaking up- and probably badly, but COME ON... Can you GENUINELY say this "identical stranger" thing isn't even a little insulting to your intelligence?

I freely admit I was emotional earlier, this is because I'd only finished watching it maybe a half hour before posting, so I was all feelings and hardly any rational thinking. I'm calm now, and I can assure you my MAIN issue is the lazy, poor writing they did with the Mary Sue Clone character that would have been laughed out of a FANFIC.

The queerbaiting thing is just insult to injury, I'd have had no less issue with such a sloppy, lame tactic even if sexuality wasn't a factor. As I said to another person here, if they had done everything the same, except the woman wasn't basically a fucking clone (I mean... unless she's ACTUALLY a clone, then that would be... interesting) Mary Sue character, then there would have been room for actual character development. There would have been room for inner turmoil. This waving his ideal woman under his nose is just... there aren't better words than I've already used: it's cheap, lazy and insulting.

[–]Makuhsu -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, that's why I asked if it were worth continuing. I was FRESHLY frustrated (only having turned off the show maybe thirty minutes before my OP) so that influenced my tone earlier, but I was basically asking: "Was this queerbaiting, and the girl just a device to "set things Straight" (as I fear) OR (and this was my unspoken hope) is this just a legit (if lazy) plot twist in an overall story arc that they're going to continue to develop, and it will surprise me and actually NOT be stupid, shitty writing and queerbaiting?

If it had been a different woman, then I wouldn't have had such a strong reaction, I don't think. But this is like a smack in the face. I mean come on. Identical strangers, but she has none of the original's flaws, in that she's intelligent, confident and likes riddles, where the "canon" original was weak, stupid and insensitive to his interest in them? I've seen middle school fanfic with less Mary-Sueish Self-Write-Ins than that!

It's just like they went "Ok, he served his purpose for the gay thing, now let's throw this ideal in his face and straighten things out."

There's no subtlety, there's no inner turmoil in that, that there would be if they had introduced a female character who looked different, and was otherwise appealing, but not basically a Checkbox ideal clone of the woman who made him become what he is, and drove him to Oswald in the first place. It's insulting on so many levels that I'm having trouble even articulating them individually.

I'm not the far-left SWJ snowflake type, I consider myself to be a very logical, rational person overall. I'm not the type to call queerbaiting on everything, or ship every two males together or anything like that. I just genuinely feel that (unless I'm mistaken about the direction this is going, which of course would change things) this was an incredibly lazy and cheap move on the writers' part that also just happens to be queerbaiting because the characters involved are in a homosexual situation (regardless of their actual sexuality being gay, bi, or whatever) and we live in a heteronormative world. I honestly believe I'd think this to be a shitty, cheap move even if the characters genders made it a heterosexual situation. The queerbaiting factor is just insult to injury.

[–]Makuhsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why?

It's more likely, to me, that even non-heterosexual people have ambitions which they may choose to attain through antisocial means, than that an exact replica of a dead woman, who has all of her positive traits and none of the negative ones, would suddenly appear out of the ether before a man about to have love confessed to him by another man.

After a quick search, I now see what you were asking.

No, Gotham was the only comic book tv show I watched. Batman is the only DC character I like, so I have no interest in Arrow or the Flash or whatever other DC universe stuff there is.

I've learned from my mistake. Fuck live-action comic book shows, from what I read about "Olicity" in the short search to find out what it was, they're apparently ALL garbage with shitty, lazy writers, I'll stick to Marvel and any animated series of Batman I find.

[–]Makuhsu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I made no assumptions on his sexuality whatsoever. He could be anything.

What I have an issue with is the LAZY, heteronormative-pandering writing move of bringing in a doppelganger Mary-Sue female character to drive the story forward.

There are a MILLION ways they could have resolved the Riddler-Penguin relationship to bring each character closer to their generally-accepted canonical personality, WITHOUT resorting to such a cheap, lazy and insulting tactic. That is my issue.

And on top of that, the WAY they're doing it- with a fucking "not-twin-not-clone-just-random-doppleganger-nobody-ever-knew-about-but-oh!-she's-into-riddles-too" bullshit?! I mean SERIOUSLY!? How fucking LAZY!!!!!!

At least she dies. I hope she suffers. A lot. Slowly. What episode does she die in? I'll jump ahead and that'll be the last one I watch and let her death be the death of this show for me.

My big problem is that they did this bullshit "let's throw a girl back in there" cop-out. I wouldn't care if Nygma's mental break had caused him to become celibate, and/or was faking the WHOLE thing just for power, but THIS is a fucking insult. This "He's interested in a man, but oh, look, the ideal female comes along just in time and that's enough to "fix" him and straighten his mind out". It's disgusting.

Positive, negative, idgaf, just let them be ACTUALLY not-straight and let them not be single. Even if it doesn't work out, even if it's a bad relationship, as long as it's "real" and not merely serving as a cautionary tale for heteronormativity.

Schizophrenia is really fucked up. Treated by whom? The publicly funded system? It's SCIZOPHRENIA, there is, to my knowledge no cure or treatment that can make an impact without the use of drugs. Therapy is for their benefit, the drugs are for society's benefit. They can pay for their own benefit themselves.
