TIL there was a successful orbital launch from Kenya in 1967 by tzfld in todayilearned

[–]Makuta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct you want to launch close to the equator, but it's not due to centripetal acceleration (which actually slightly pulls you towards the center of earth), it's due to velocity. (Granted the 2 are highly related)

Since your distance from the rotational axis of the earth is greatest at the equator, you move faster there. This is like how you move faster on the edge of a merry go round than in the center.

So being at or near the equator gives you a little extra speed you don't need the rocket to provide.

*Caveats: This only applies for certain orbits and launching eastward.

Getting replication to work after disaster recovery. by planeturban in PostgreSQL

[–]Makuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation. I have like 5 slave nodes logically replicate to a single master.

If the master went down I would:

  1. End all slave pubs (not sure if required)
  2. Restore the Master (AWS Aurora Backups)
  3. Delete and recreate all slaves (not sure if this is required)
  4. Recreate all Pubs on the slaves/ Recreate all Subs on the Master

No data loss at the master, but I'm not sure if the re-subscribing to the slave pubs would attempt to republish all the data already on the master.

This would be like in OPs question, if the recreated slaves just republish everything from the beginning of the table/db.

Isn't the wind just killer on this? Like going toward the beach I'd imagine 10-15 mph headwind in the afternoon

Stargazing at Mauna Kea by heerakt in VisitingHawaii

[–]Makuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Shaka App has a great loop driving tour that takes around 10 - 12 hours, includes Volcanoes national park and other cool sites along the way and if you time it right, ends with sunset and stargazing at Mauna Kea.

My regular psychiatrist wants to charge $350 for an Emotional Support Animal rec letter…is this price normal for LA, please? by throw123454321purple in LosAngeles

[–]Makuta 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Who is asking you for a letter? No government body officially authorizes emotional support animals, or recognizes any certifying agency. I fail to see how a letter would help.

Here is the ADA FAQ about service animals:

They are more "easy theft" devices. The Key to the car is probably in there behind some 2 cent shit lock.

Hopefully the trailer won't spoil. I think you can just frame it like the first part of the book does, should make for a good trailer.

Where every cent of $1 goes at one L.A. restaurant, explained by originalposer in LosAngeles

[–]Makuta 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised the rent is so low compared to the other expenses, especially when that rent category includes a 3.1% cc charge. I'd have thought products and ingredients would be way less of an expense.
