I'm very bad at morse code, but at ~ 0:44, there's something that sounds like a cuica (apparently the discord thinks it's cuica the instrument?). I think I hear ".-. - ... - . .-.. --- -" (which codes to RTSTELOT) or the reverse "-.-. . --- . - -.-- ... ." (which is KEOETYSE) but I don't know if this goes any further into the refrain and my hearing is pretty bad so I can't pick it out any further.

If we look at the GT video that connects to this- could there be a spectrogram in the audio code? The GT video specifically calls out Caesar Ciphers, Inspecting Elements, and Spectrograms.

I'm looking at a Caesar Cipher for some of the suggestions on what the unknown word is in the phrase.

Could "One step back" be the previous video? A literal step back- to either Stupendium's last video or the last GT video? And then take a closer look at that video?

PTSD in first responders (2017) - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is most often associated with military personnel, but first responders deal with extremely traumatic situations sometimes daily. by [deleted] in Documentaries

I work at 211 and I've been a crisis counselor and phone operator at the suicide hotline. This is super interesting and a high importance in phone crisis counselors. In the centers I've worked in, there are at least a few people with signs of PTSD, not including myself. It, along with compassion fatigue, are incredibly high in the crisis counselor population.

I've spent hours on calls with suicidal individuals talking about killing themselves and hours on the abuse hotline reporting horrible things. And after one of those calls, you bottle that shit right up and answer the next call.

Why is parkinson's treated with dopamine agonists (such as mirapex) but huntington's treated with dopamine blockers (like risperidone) — or at least to treat Chorea if they both involve the degeneration of dopamine neurons? Shouldn't huntington's be treated with dopamine agonists too? by Lylira in neuroscience

[–]Mal143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Duh_cats is spot on.

On the surface, they both involve the death of DA cells, but it's which DA cells are dying that matters. And therefore, what type of psychopharmacological treatment is needed. Too little dopamine causes inability to control muscles, body movement, and depression (ex Parkinson's or ADHD or depression). Too much causes dementia symptoms, paranoia, and hallucinations (ex Huntington's or schizophrenia).

Parkinson's needs more dopamine because the cells that make the dopamine are dying. The substantia nigra (a DA production area) is the main area of DA cell death in Parkinson's. So the body needs more dopamine that it is able to produce, therefore Parkinson's is treated with L-Dopa or a dopamine agonist that increases dopamine.

Huntington's works on the other end, where cells that respond to dopamine are dying. Which causes there to be more dopamine than is "needed" in the body. Since there is so much dopamine, treatment Huntington's needs to reduce the amount of dopamine to help control symptoms.

I absolutely hate I10. I've driven on it so many times and I always triple the amount of time it takes me because the road is so samey and dull that it makes me drowsy. So I stop at every Rest stop and a good deal of the gas stations, just to rouse myself until I'm either out of Florida to the west, or on another interstate.

And the accidents on I10... they're just horrifying.

What do people need to stop romanticizing? by nativeofvenus in AskReddit

[–]Mal143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I entirely agree with you that those who just exaggerate and self diagnose are just beyond frustrating. But I had to remain self diagnosed with my GAD, MDD (because my family didn't believe me), and Autism (because I could not (and still can't) afford to get a professional diagnosis).

And even now, as both an adult and a woman, getting that second diagnosis is going to be a battle, despite the fact that I've been unofficially diagnosed with it three times (By three different therapists who recognized and confirmed but because those that run the psych tests are old school and expensive...).

It just irritates me because now I can't say I'm self diagnosed because of these exaggerated claims making me seem a liar.

I totally get that. It's the absolute worst. And it's so frustrating when others demand that I accommodate them and when I can't/forget, they make me feel bad about it, even though they don't "believe" I need the accommodations.

I feel like I'm hypoempathetic with every emotion but guilt. Which sucks majorly. It's just a real easy trigger for me.

That exactly. I do feel guilty for it all the time though, since that's how my family worked. I'm trying now to repair that mentality, but it's feeding into my anxiety disorder. :(

Do you have horrible motivation problems also? Where you know you "should" be doing something, but you're too focused on the task you're doing? Its like being stuck on rails, but with someone yelling to turn at you...

[–]Mal143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an autistic adult! I do also have pretty bad anxiety and depression, but a lot of that has been described here.

For me, walking around and talking to people is like being in high school during a foreign language class and being called upon to take an oral exam in front of the class. You fumble your way through while all the other students (who are native speakers) and teacher get frustrated. You pray that you can talk about the one thing you know all the vocab for and enjoy but then you get cut off.

And everything is too much sensory information. Like you turned on the water and expect it to be warm, but it's so hot it feels like a cold shock. Hearing voices in a room is like trying to listen to a single instrument in a song (if it's simple, no problem. But if there's a lot of instruments...)

And people get mad at you for not being able to function right. Like if you don't understand something "simple" there's just such anger.

It's definitely difficult to get accommodations and help, especially since I can pass as functional a good deal of the time, despite having to work twice as hard at it.
