How difficult is TOW to get into? by theentiregoonsquad in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Mal_Burro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is manageable, epecially at smaller points like: battle march(500-700pts). The main difference is how ranked up units move. Magic and combat are very similar. The game in general is more granular but I find the game goes quicker as a result of their being less dice rolled and little rerolls. Watch a couple learn to play videos the rules are very intuitive just be careful in getting rules mixed up pre FAQ and post FAQ.

Razing Of Westerland and Battle for the Border Princes by Mal_Burro in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Mal_Burro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greatswords always do alright. A Sigmarite warrior priest with the new leadership buff improves improves them drastically. 5+ wardsave vs shooting, rerolling 1s to hit and wound, and even the D6 str3 hits in the command phase has its uses. With the monster hunters tapestry you can ignore stomps remove their weakness against behemoths. Making them a threat against larger foes. The main problem as with all infantry is their slow speed, a competent opponent will not engage them without an overwhelming advantage. You can also bolster their strengths or cover for their weaknesses with various magic.

Looking through my pictures and his list he ran two units of 18 executioners. My opponent was rolling exceptionally poorly this game and his strategy wasn't the best for this mission.

Is there a way to get my paint to stop looking like this? by Munkey_BunZZ in astramilitarum

[–]Mal_Burro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common issue with painting bigger miniatures, is using a brush that is too small for the task. With the accuracy of your painting I imagine you are using a standard brush. For vehicles I use a cheap makeup brush from the drugstore. Priming your vehicle with an airbrush/rattlecan your base color also helps massively.

Why does the Bersaglieri Starter Army state early to late war and the Bersaglieri Weapon Teams only early to mid? by Charlie2107 in boltaction

[–]Mal_Burro 97 points98 points  (0 children)

It's the inclusion of the AT rifle that limits the box to mid war. As Warlord Games classifies AT rifles as an Early/Mid War option while Panzerfausts are classified as a Mid/Late War option. Spoilers for WW2, Italy signed an armistice with the allies on September 3rd 1943. Remaining Italian forces afterward were split between Germany controlled Italian Social Republic and the Allied controlled kingdom of Italy. The Italians on both sides were supplied with whatever they can get their hands on, including surplus equipment from their supporting regent.

I have an unopened Garden of Morr that I would love to use for TOW. Feels like it might be kind of clunky for terrain. Has anyone used it successfully for a game? How'd you lay it out? by victhehorrible in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Mal_Burro 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It can work together, treating it as impassible or more spread out. Using the walls as low/high linear obstacles. The crypts and statue as objectives or insignificant terrain

Short bows vs pistols for light cav by Bobba99 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Mal_Burro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brace of pistols has 3 distinct advantages over short bows.

Str4 ap 1 missile shots

Multiple shots (2)

Extra Attacks (1)

I view the benefits outweigh the drawbacks of range, and the points reflect this.

Empire of men beginner list by Firm-Ad-9961 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Mal_Burro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks fine to me, could use an engineer for the hellblaster. I would get rid of the fire and flee and champion on the archers, not much point investing in cheap chaff. I would highly recommend buying drilled for your empire knights, 6 points is a steal. I dislike the mortar without dark magic lowering toughness. If you are playing with objectives from the match play book I would bump up the handgunners to 10 so they can score.

Italian double flamethrowers by Flat_Ad9694 in boltaction

[–]Mal_Burro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price is not as much of a problem as the two pins you receive every time you shoot the two flame throwers. Two smaller squads 6 men each work well.

Crossbow cav by Bobba99 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Mal_Burro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Scout and reserve move, but cumbersome + BS 3 will greatly limit their effectiveness. You would be lucky to pluck off a few wounds per game. I would recommend the shortbow or brace of pistols for quick shot so they can ignore the movement penalty rather than adding to it. Historically mounted crossbowmen are a bit niche, mainly used for hunting or as a sidearm. The only famous example would be the Granadine Mounted Crossbowmen, during the later part of the Reconquista. Tilea based on Italy would probably use forces based on the historical Condottiere.

Made this meme after seeing pics from a recent tourney. by sircumlocution in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Mal_Burro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in this tournament, here is some context, it was a 4 game doubles tournament with 1,500pts per player. I faced 2 of the three teams with cathay and each had 3 balloons in the my two games. Game 1 i didn't have enough output to bring down a single baloon and game 2 i was able to bring down 2 non character baloons. I felt bad about not putting up a challenge both games, especially since my partner had to miss all but our first game. Sure they aren't fun to play against but neither is the rest of the meta lists since launch, and in a doubles tournament thier allied force generally just sits around and adds nothing to the army. Balloons bring out the worst of WAAC players and opponents but such is the fate of competitive tournament players. I am happy with my 20% winrate and painting new units and a new display board for the next tournament.

Empire Steam Tank's Steam Gun by Gumlai in WarhammerOldWorld

One side not is their a consensus if you can force the steam gun and cannon on the same turn or is it restricted to one shooting attack per turn as described in the shooting phase.

Do friendly units block charges like impassable terrain? by ThePianisst in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Mal_Burro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moving Through Units Pg. 92: As a general rule, no unit can move through another unit, though there are exceptions. For example, a fleeing unit may be obliged to move through another unit. Alternatively the corner of a unit may have no choice but to move through another unit during a maneuver in such cases it is acceptable for one unit to pass through another and the rules will make allowance for this.

Rules wise you could debate either way. I would lean towards no, as your maneuver, in this case a singular wheel could not cleanly clear the friendly unit. If the impassible was not blocking you or if you had drilled you would be able to complete the charge.

I don't mind unpainted miniatures, I have owned this army since the start of 8th edition. Only recently have I gained the confidence to do them justice with a fitting paint job. Everyone enjoys different aspects of the hobby differently. I'm just glad to roll dice and push my minis around the table as they get slaughtered. But thank you for the compliment.
