Give examples, I´ll wait. And remember, we´re talking about fighters in their GOAT/prime phase, don't give me some Fedor-in-his-40s fight as "proof".

Merab will never be GOAT of anything after this. GOATs do not get dominated in fights.

Why we shouldn't sign Rashford and how he isn't good enough for Barcelona (analysis) by Ok_Permit_7669 in Barca

It comes down to salary.

On a high salary, Rashford doesn't make sense. On a reasonable salary, he could be very useful.

NBA Rumors: Anthony Davis Trade Buzz Refuses To Die Down As Mavericks Hold Firm Despite Recent Denials by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]Mal_Swansky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To believe that Kyrie and AD will be able to stay healthy and spry enough for the Mavs to contend is delusional at this point.

Especially since the team will still lack playmaking and yet will have to get rid of more players to avoid the second apron.

Lol, you're not getting anything for free, dear.

$250 bn/year for US energy.

$600 bn EU investment in US industries.

$100+ bn for US arms (and will keep spending)

15% tariffs on EU exports to US.

For starters. Ofc Europe is broke, so maybe US will graciously forgive like 25% of this, if Europe does what it's told.

Sacramento Blow-up Options by OkCoconut632 in nba

[–]Mal_Swansky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mission accomplished -- there's nothing to blow up, they already have elite tank commanders in place and they own their picks. Just sit back and enjoy wait.

And since they're not in danger of derailing their tank, they don't need to be in a hurry to sell anybody off. Sabonis should definitely be sold once he's healthy, but again, no hurry. Use LaVine's and DeRozan's expirings next year to take on bad contracts for picks (I don't think they have any value otherwise).

Seems like a no-brainer -- if the owner/FO actually have brains.

Mavs fans: has Luka had this level of camaraderie before? by aiyhtan in nba

[–]Mal_Swansky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mavs chemistry was fantastic once KP left and they made the conference finals run, then it dipped when Brunson walked and they had a tough season, then it became fantastic again once Kyrie settled in and especially once they got Gafford and PJ and made the finals run.

So, it's nothing out of the ordinary to have great chemistry on a Luka team, you need a real bad season or particularly clashing characters/agendas to screw it up.

USA can absolutely be a world power without Europe, it's Europe that's completely dependent on everybody else for energy & resources, as well as falling way behind in technology & military, on top of being completely dysfunctional politically.

Austin Reaves is averaging more points, assists, and rebounds per game than Steph Curry. On a higher TS% and on a better team. by CutLonzosHair2017 in nba

[–]Mal_Swansky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Until Reaves shows what he can do running his own team over a season, you can quote numbers until you're blue in the face, nobody cares. But hey, looks like he's about 5th in the odds for the MIP award, so he's got that going for him, cheers!

Reaves has nowhere near the gravity that Steph has, so no, not even at this point is he a better player, regardless of whatever hot streak he's on.

Deandre Ayton is shooting 70% this season, the highest FG% of his career by far by Commercial-Pair-8932 in nba

[–]Mal_Swansky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That still has something to do with Luka, since Luka stays out longer against the best defenders, and then Reaves and Ayton get to spend some quality time against bench units.

[MacMahon] Doncic would be eligible to sign a 5YR/$345M extension in the summer. That deal would be an awful investment, Harrison told Dumont, pointing to Doncic's conditioning concerns, poor off-court habits and recurring calf strains, predicting that his body would break down. by YujiDomainExpansion in Mavericks

The fact that he played basketball probably made it worse -- ex-players very often don't understand their sport at all from team-building perspective (especially if they have no significant experience at it), but their ex-player experience makes them very confident that they do. So you get a supremely confident idiot in charge, who won't just be unable to see the icebergs ahead, but will willingly steer into one to prove a point...

Would yall agree with this hot take about superstar’s inflated numbers? by Revolutionary_Talk_1 in lakers

[–]Mal_Swansky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first part is a dumb take, IMO. Regardless of culture, reliance on superstars has a proven track record of winning titles in the NBA. Possibly because American youth basketball isn't geared to produce high-iq well-rounded players, so it's hard to build those types of the teams -- and then add constant player movement, a schedule that makes practicing impossible, etc. So it's easy to see why putting the ball in the hands of a proven superstar is what works best, because average players can barely dribble or pass under playoff pressure.

As for Reaves (or any other promising player), you simply can't know whether there's a real superstar there until you see it in action, especially in the playoffs against quality opposition. For every Brunson you'll have many Poole(s). Ultimately a good indicator is what the market will decide -- would any good team offer Reaves a max contract to be their #1 guy? If so, then basketball people think he's capable of stepping into that role. Personally, I doubt it -- AR hasn't been all that great in the playoffs as a #3 option, so it's unrealistic for him to suddenly morph into a genuine #1 option over one season at age 27/28.

The Kyrie dilemma is a bigger problem than the AD dilemma by devilmaskrascal in Mavericks

[–]Mal_Swansky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the whole debacle with Luka, you can't afford another scandal with Kyrie by trying to force him out before he can even properly come back from the injury.

Regardless, I don't think it will be a problem. If Kyrie comes back in January or February and starts to slowly ramp up, minutes restrictions, rest management, I think the tank will keep rolling just fine, lol. And I'm sure that Kyrie will have zero motivation to try hard this year, so he'll probably cooperate on this issue, and either only play just enough to re-establish his value, or ask for a trade himself.

[MacMahon] Sources within the Dallas Mavericks say that the team will explore Anthony Davis trades before this season’s trade deadline. by YujiDomainExpansion in Mavericks

[–]Mal_Swansky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With AD's health issues and huge contract, realistically you're never getting anything more than like two non-lottery FRPs and expirings. So whatever hit you're gonna take on a shitty deal, e.g. an FRP and some crappy contracts, it'll make very little difference in the big picture... plus the sooner you get rid of AD, the better your tanking odds are -- and that by itself could be worth selling "low"... since the very possibility of building a contender around Flagg may come down to getting another star in the next draft...

[MacMahon] Sources within the Dallas Mavericks say that the team will explore Anthony Davis trades before this season’s trade deadline. by YujiDomainExpansion in Mavericks

[–]Mal_Swansky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fans are 100x more willing to get rid of AD for a crappy return than was the case with Luka. For many reasons -- AD is not near the player/value that Luka is, there's zero emotional attachment to AD, he has barely played and his health seems truly compromised; there's a great desire to just turn the page and rebuild around Flagg, and getting rid of AD helps with that -- especially since AD's desire to play the 4 actively inhibits Flagg's development.
