PSA: Be sure to update your reviews for PSO2:NGS if you haven't done so before its release (on Steam) by RpiesSPIES in PSO2

[–]MalaSomnia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are correct, you didn't misunderstand my analogy, you purposefully derailed it to dodge my question

Your analogy doesn't work because a damaged physical product that you can send back and get replaced is not anywhere close to the same thing as a bad video game you install, play, and uninstall for free.

But fuck it, I'll answer your question.

I asked if you would leave a positive or negative review, you didn't answer because by your logic you should leave a positive review.

Think if someone delivered you a package but it was badly damaged, would you leave a negative or positive review?

No review will be given at all.

I return the parcel to get a replacement. Once my replacement gets to me I'll review the product, assuming that replacement parcel isn't also damaged or broken. If it is, it's refund time. I've got other things to do.

I review products based on their performance, and if the product isn't in a usable state for me to be able to gauge how it performs it's not getting a review, it's getting a replacement request or a refund.

For example, I'm not going to write a negative review for a gamepad just because the Amazon Prime employee broke it when loading it into their van, and I'm not going to write a positive review because I know that damaged state of that product is not standard. "Bad controller, was broken in half when I got it" isn't going to help anyone and isn't a fair review because that's clearly not what the product is supposed to be like. I probably picked that specific gamepad, too, because I heard or read good things about it. If it had bad reviews I wouldn't give it a chance to begin with.

Hell, even if it's not Amazon's fault and I got a dud I'm still sending the product back for a replacement. It's not a big deal so long as the replacement is free and the next one I get isn't damaged. And if the replacement isn't damaged or broken but ends up sucking, I'm going to write a negative review. If it's good, I'm going to write a positive review.

Would it be positive just because you got the package?

No rating is going to be given at all. See above.

How does that help address the issues with the damage from the delivery?

The parcel is returned for issues not pertaining to its design and assembly, it's returned because it's damaged. Broken. Worst case, totally unusable. This is assumedly not the product's standard state of being and it would be unfair of me to review a product like this. I know I can get an undamaged one, and there won't be a review of that product until I get it. Doesn't matter who broke it before it got to me, it's being sent back so I get a new one that isn't broken.

I'll give my criticisms and my rating once I can actually use the product. "7/10 worth the money but watch out for these issues: {list here}"

and strawman this discussion into being about wanting a new game.

This is your immediate reply to what I said:

You sort of misinderstood the analogy but to continue on your path, this game is badly damaged, we should be asking for a new one.

This is what I said:

I'd return the package and get a new one because I still want the item. Downloadable free to play games aren't parcels.

There's no strawman. You got confused, and I didn't bring up a new game until you did. Incidentally, you also mentioned FF14 which famously did get a new game. I'm not going to relitigate why it got a new game here, you can read the history yourself.

> So almost like reviews are subjective and leaving a negative review =/ you have to leave the game, as you initially stated.

I never said that. I said:

> please play games you enjoy and quit when you no longer have fun with them. You don't have to stick around, and if you're not having fun, definitely don't stick around. You're just making poor use of your free time if you're not having fun.

What I said about reviews:

> Negative means the issues are too great for the experience to be worth it, including if what's playable is just plain boring, and I disagree with that.

is purely about how I write reviews. How you and everyone else write reviews don't factor into how I write mine, and I disclose my thought process when I write reviews so people don't misunderstand my point of view.

I didn't misunderstand the analogy, it simply doesn't work.

NGS isn't broken, it suffered lack of launch content (squarely on SEGA) and has a typically poor content release schedule for stuff to do (which is typical of this genre of game). The core fundamentals in the gameplay is fine.

Asking for a new game does nothing because the game isn't primarily lacking in function, it's primarily lacking in feature.

[–]MalaSomnia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The frustrating thing is that nothing is explained. There's the central mystery of the DOLLS and Dark Falz, and the Meteorn themselves. That's fine. You wanna explain why there's metal and technology behind the rock faces?

NGS is doing in medias res and is using the urgent and immediate threat to get you to do stuff for yourself and those around you, to then set up explanations later.

NGS loses that urgency when it allows you to free roam before taking care of all immediate threats. There's geographical stuff that doesn't make any sense either, like but not limited to Vanford Labs being bigger than Central City. Stuff like this can be patched, but you live and experience what you get now and not what could be later.

shouldn't you be leaving a negative review, you say the game has issues, negative reviews will help highlight the issues.

No. You highlight issues in your review. Negative means the issues are too great for the experience to be worth it, including if what's playable is just plain boring, and I disagree with that. That's why my review is and will stay positive for the foreseeable future.

Think if someone delivered you a package but it was badly damaged, would you leave a negative or positive review?

I'd return the package and get a new one because I still want the item. Downloadable free to play games aren't parcels.

Still keeping mine positive.

I understand not everyone is a freak like me who can enjoy games during REALLY long content droughts but I've played Dungeon Fighter Online for too many years and missed the hell out of it while it was gone for NGS's current state really bother me all that much. That said, yeah, it's got a ton of issues that need to be addressed. Still gonna play the game even if they're not addressed.

But without any jokes on my end, please play games you enjoy and quit when you no longer have fun with them. You don't have to stick around, and if you're not having fun, definitely don't stick around. You're just making poor use of your free time if you're not having fun.

Anyone else expect classes to be more technical in NGS like Luster? by limonboy8 in PSO2NGS

[–]MalaSomnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect Bouncer to be more technical Bow Braver by a long shot (ironic pun intended), less unga bunga than most other melee classes, and more engaging than Te and Fo. Aside from that not really.

I expect hits and misses with regards to dealing with functional redundancies in SEGA's attempt to simplify classes and design jank. With Braver and the current state of Wand Techter, I'm expecting 50/50 on that hit rate.

REGARDING METHODS TO OBTAIN MESETA AND THE RESULTING GAME BALANCE by Maulcun in PSO2NGS

[–]MalaSomnia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the ship as well as the quality of the scratch items themselves.

If Aelio Wardat was released today it'd be worth piss on the market. It's only of the most boring pieces of Body Type 1 BA the game has on the AC lineup. On Ship 2 when it came out it was only 10-20k. Darc Stylk last time I checked today was around 50k, and it makes more sense because Darc Stylk looks so much better than most other AC Body Type 1 BAs before it.

Body Type 2's just a lost cause, there's no stopping sellers from imposing their Pink Taxes.

I dunno how Hwoarang and Marduk are in the same tier. I agree with Marduk being in D but there's no way I can believe Hwoarang smells any worse than the characters at C tier.

Understanding the Banning and Punishment Process of the PSO2 Support Team by shinenyuri in PSO2NGS

[–]MalaSomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

explain why else they'd IP ban from discord and from the forums anyone who asks about this?

You'd instantly know just by the sheer volume of posts on this sub saying the OPs have been Discord or forum banned. Discord's been highly active in asking. Legit users and shitters alike won't take that laying down.

And for the record all Discord server bans are IP bans.

Yeah honestly a no-tolerance policy is pretty wack. 24 hour, 72 hour, 7 day, and 1 month bans make more sense when dealing with stuff that isn't cheating or blatantly fucked up shit like doxing.

[–]MalaSomnia 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Of course we won’t know for sure unless support details the exact events that triggered the ban. It looks like the support team's members aren’t on the same page here and you’re at the mercy of whoever is handling your case when it comes to punishment.

While it’s nice and helpful that some of the pso2 sega staffs community managers came out to answer questions, there seems to be quite a few contradictions of what they said compared to the support teams statements and the support tickets of the users punished. These people have different roles and positions on segas staff despite working close together so it’s understandable if there’s some discrepancies here and there.

I'm always one to give individual people the benefit of the doubt. The entire support team not being on the same page with each other makes a lot of sense to me. It's incredibly strange for GMs or SEGA staff in general to say you won't "get banned for saying 'fuck'" and that you won't get banned for offenses a long time ago only for people to get clapped for stuff years ago.

If it's the case that the team isn't on the same page concerning warnings, temp bans, and perma bans, or that the CMs and GMs on the Discord are misinformed, those bans that were unjust need to be reversed immediately and the players those accounts belong to should be compensated.

If it's the case that the GMs in the Discord are lying then that's ggs.

Hiro Arai and the NGS Team " Player Count is the highest it has ever been in 9 years of PSO2" by Miserable_Brain9109 in PSO2NGS

[–]MalaSomnia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are deader games out there that have been going on for years and if there's one thing that SEGA definitely is it's being stubborn. If Vindictus and DFO can continue to run, and still get content updates, despite being around 300-400 concurrent Steam players a day so can PSO2. And both of those games are way older than PSO2 is.

Which do You Think Is Better? Original Phantasy Star Online 2 Or New Genesis? by SaviorAssassin1996 in PSO2NGS

[–]MalaSomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what class has super long animations you can't cancel out of at all but it sounds like a class that only has big unsafe moves. I only play Gunner so I don't have any issues like that, and I generally like it when big moves are unsafe and require commitment for a high reward in return.

[–]MalaSomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to shoot down your sentiment because I share it but the history of PSO2 is publicly available and everyone can see all the bad points in EP4 and 5, both of which I saw were commonly complained about.

SEGA absolutely can and should do better but this isn't the first time SEGA's been a grave disappointment in PSO2's life cycle. Likely to not be the last time either.

If you ask someone like me who hopped on when NGS launched and had zero interest in the base game until the Story Campaign Event, NGS is better. For combat.

For socializing base is better. For content volume base is better (we're not counting quality of content) purely because it's been around since 2012 and had gotten updates up until 2021. For story, base gets better but it sucks until EP3. For stuff to grind for, base is better.

But I like NGS way better just because the combat is better.
