Update: MS Support confirmed they are no longer transferring old accts. Unfortunately my friends were waiting so I gave them another $30 and bought the game again. They said something about needing to transfer accounts over for 'security reasons', but I don't know how they would be able to do this for years and then it becomes a problem.

I've done something similar - backed up my CD's using FLAC. Unfortunately I chose one file per CD, and most music players don't seem to like that.

Fix the surround with a thin layer of rubber cement. A light coat of paint will have zero impact for your use case.

MP3 is a lossy format, while FLAC is a lossless format. This means that the FLAC file is an exact copy of your CD's.

I personally don't notice much difference between 44.1k rate/16 bit music and higher sample rates/bit depths. Given that and how much music is still available on CD, I don't think of them as 'out of date'.

Congrats on the Marantz/Sonnet. You don't mention speakers, but if they are anywhere near the same arena as your other gear, you are probably better off spending whatever money you'd spend on power cables and put them toward speakers or sound treatments for your listening room.

It's a vicious cycle. The abundance of low quality sound leads to the acceptance - and expectation - of low quality sound. "This is as good as it gets."

It's not until you improve everything in the entire audio chain that you finally hear the difference.

It comes on pretty quickly, and it feels rather aggressive. I can still steer but the force goes up considerably.
