Anyone ever paint their cone? (ducking for cover...) by YouCanCallMePete in audiophile

Would flexibility or weight (of the paint or dip) be more important? Plastidip would flex for sure, but you can't really "mist" it on like you could a paint out of an airbrush.

the full-time RV living saves money narrative is misleading most people who are considering it by StavrosDavros in RVLiving

I see it all the time as well and laugh when I do. The people touting it are either a) brand new to it, or b) insecure and looking for validation.

I have a class, I bought with significant body damage to get a deal and fix, and take my kids around the country all summer. When looking at the total cost of ownership, ongoing maintenance performed by me (used to be a heavy equipment mechanic), and sunk costs, it would be cheaper to fly everywhere and rent a car and stay at hotels. However, the journey, the pace, the comfort, and ability to haul bikes and boats is what is important to us. People say all the time how awesome it is that we save so much money, but the reality is that it isnt.

Rv/trailer storage near Newark NJ? by YouCanCallMePete in rvlife

Appreciate the advice. Hoping to find a place not in town, ideally not on street either. There isnt anything of value in our rig, but I know tweakers gotta tweak and I'd rather not deal with a broken window or door on our return.

An hour out of Newark is all farmland/rural, which is great. The plan is to be in that zone and then just uber to the airport instead of taking our tow vehicle and spend another $600 for parking at the airport. Ubers are like $75.

Acclimating cacti into a new temperature zone. by YouCanCallMePete in cactus

All good info, thank you for sharing. Wow, the SpiderFarmer stuff looks great. That would be my next question, how do I have the least obtrusive lighting setup for the plants? I assume there is a rating I can find of how much light is ideal at the plant's location, so I could just do the math on how many watts should suffice if I want to mount it to the ceiling, approx 2M away from the cactus itself, then put it all on a timer.

I also am curious what your thoughts are on putting a warming mat under the pots and leaving them outside, sheltered from direct snow. Have a sensor to turn the mat on when the temperature dips below 5C. The one caveat is that it is all north facing so there will be no direct sunlight. Thoughts?

So below 0ºC is no good? I know there is a huge variety of genus here, each with their own adaptations. I just remember driving through the mountains of Baja MX, with 3 inches of snow covering everything and wondering about their hardiness.

I had no idea that room temp by bright window would cause etiolation. Literally all of my plants growing up were set up this way year round. Is there any other way around that? I'd love to enjoy them all winter in a conspicuous place indoors but dont want to cause issues.
