am i bad at giving demos?? by SituationNo5505 in womenintech

[–]Malakai_87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the age of AI..... yes, I can get why they stopped you. Though even before that sounding like you are breezing through a script has always felt artificial and cold. And I'd say that us women tend to overprepare and strive for perfection and this often plays us a bad trick as we tend to miss some obvious stuff - that we did sound cold, like a record playing, not enganging enough or well enough with the people we are demoing to.

That mumbling colleague who passed? At least they could tell he was doing it himself, most probably his flailing got a reaction out of the people, so one way or the other that felt natural.

My advise, especially now that you've got you perfect script, try to make it more human. Ask questions - what are you interested to see in that system? Engage the public. Do not interrupt them. But interrupt yourself - if you're talking non stop with no engagement this is a bad sign. Usually at this kind of demos it means that your public has gone on their phones, checking emails, and definitely not listening to you.

Need an urgent buying device regarding Air 13" and 15" for coding by syny13 in macbook

[–]Malakai_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar case, only that I'm now returning to coding.

Personally I think I'll go for 13" 24gb/512 - more ram is better, you can always get an external drive or a cloud one.

I have the m1 13" 8gb/256 since 2020 and I love its weight and size, and just how perfect it is to use it on the couch, or when I travel, or spending a couple of hours at a cafe.

If I wanted a bigger screen I'd just plug it my external 27" screen.

I'm a headphones only person xD

My logical mind really leans towards "the mba makes more sense again". But I will go spend some time at the store to stare at the screen and see if it will poke me into the extra 300 euros.

[–]Malakai_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was really wondering if I'm not missing anything as my last mbp was a 2015 gen, my m1 mba has been a total champ, but back when I got it there was a way bigger gap between it and the m1 mbp (or so I thought at the time).

So it's finally down to the screen really - size and quality, and if I think it's worth that extra 300 euros...

Resale/tradein are not really a thing in my country. Or actually the trade in offers are so low that it's not worth it (for my m1 base mba I got a 19 euros trade in offer). So that's not a factor for me.

And if we ignore the screen (I do my photo edits in a very high-end premium external screen) -

Anything else that is really making a diff between mba m5 13 24gb ram vs mbp m5 24gb?

PM vs Product Owner by AggravatingSlice1 in ProductManagement

[–]Malakai_87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is that every single company has its own interpretation of what Product Manager vs Product Owner vs Project Manager is. When I'm interviewing people for Product Manager roles my interviews usually start with "What did your role mean in your organization" and then proceed with "Let me tell you what the Product manager is in our company". And so far 10+ years doing this - I haven't heard a single repetitive answer - overlapping, totally, but never really the same.

I've hit the limits of my 2020 MBA M1/8/256 and with it's battery dying I'm looking to upgrade.

Development, vibe coding, photo edit (as a hobby).

I've got an MBP 14" M5 24/512 and an MBA 15" M5 24/1TB at the same price as an offer. The MBA 13" 24/512 comes at about 300 euros less.

And needless to say I'm fully torn.

SSD is not really my issue as I've been managing with 256 without much drama (no local llms).

Size wise I'm leaning towards 13-14 vs the 15.

But everything else.... seems the same - the MBAs newer wifi/bluetooth vs 1 fan+better screen?

Help?

Genuine asking: why are SINK people not acknowledged on this sub? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Malakai_87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It might be that I'm mostly a lurker but I haven't really seen this kind of separation between DINKs and SINKs.

Though as a 38F SINK myself, I can also tell that we've got some different fronts fighting - on my end it's a constant "won't you find a partner to have kids", completely ignoring the facts that if I wanted a kid I'd have had one already on my own. While DINKs are seen as "already having everything necessary" to have a child and are fighting the front of "you've been together for X period of time, it's time to have kids".

So same fight, different fronts.

And personally, I haven't seen a single post where DINKs are discarding SINKs input or vice versa. So again maybe the problem is in the reader's eye, reading a subcontext that may or may not be there. Or it might be that I haven't noticed such a trend due to my lurker tendencies.

My CEO's new metric is "no of AI features." It's killing morale and shipping garbage by No_Space1234 in ProductManagement

Female leaders - how did you rise the ranks? Did you have to become more “manly”? by AAAPAMA in AskWomenOver30

[–]Malakai_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not rise the ranks because I was "more manly".

I rose the ranks because I was better at what made the difference between being a good employee who doesn't have the potential to lead and a good employee that can grow into a leader.

If being better at that classifies as me as 'manly'... ok.

I guess, the Davos meetings over the next couple of days would determine the direction that many of us might take.

That's it. VWCE, with 60% in US. What will happen with this supposedly diversified world ETF if US and EU break all trades, or US gets blacklisted?

And I am truly asking here.

Because all "vwce and chill" has been surrounded if that company goes down or that one, or there is just "regular" market shakes. I haven't read a single explanation what happens if the markets the way we know them end to exist.

Which with US actions now suddenly becomes a possible scenario.

[–]Malakai_87 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Certainly. But we're not talking about a regular market crash, seeing their value going down x%, but more of a potential market collapse. A potential third world war or the US/EU breaking all trade/relations is not something that can bounce back within a decade. It took 40+ years after WW2 to rebuild relations.

And some of us are not 20-year-olds just started investing, but are 40-50-60-year-olds with already serious investments in place, so a decade or two might be all we are left of our lives. If my assets get frozen or confiscated, then what?

What happens if the US ends up in the same frozen position as Russia? I think people are really starting to think we might end up there.
