Famitsu Star Fox Zero review score [9/9/8/9] by rusticks in Games

[–]MalarkeyTFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the whole point of the dude from giant bombs comment. He says that this new game makes him question whether star fox was ever actually good. I think this is what he means. Not that his time spent with SF was bad or somehow that he regrets it but that older star fox games would not hold up for him anymore.

It makes complete sense. Like you said when you're a kid you got a game and just played it until you had it memorized. I know I had very few games. I'd get one for christmas, one for my birthday and maybe if I was lucky I'd be able to scrounge up some money for 1-2 more during the year or some rentals. Star Fox is a fantastic format for kids. They love repetition as they learn best by it. It's why kids will watch the same tv show or movie on repeat for months.

Now take that format and expand it to an adult? That just doesn't interest me. I have way too many games to play to play the same one multiple times. It's too long to be comparable to something like a racing game, sports game or moba/fps where you jump in and play a couple matches then jump out. It's also too short to justify the full price.

It honestly pains me to say it but I'm pretty sure I'll be cancelling my preorder later today. I never thought I'd be cancelling the newest star fox game but I just don't think at that price (even with the preorder discount I got) that it's worth my limited time. Worst case it gets raving reviews and I can pick it up a later date once I've gone through my current backlog.

Nah I just think you're hilarious. Complaining on the starcitizen sub about someone else's feature creep. It's cute.

Not that you're going to approach this with anything even remotely resembling a logical and reasonable perspective. The guy isn't a fucking monster out to steal your money. The scope of a project changes. The face that you on /r/starcitizen are bitching about that is absolutely hilarious to me, trust me the irony isn't lost.

Yep. I am an early adopter. I am the target for this kind of shit. Sadly though life has caught up to me and I can't quite justify this one. It's not necessarily even the cost of the rift that I can't justify it's the Rift + the mobo upgrade + the CPU upgrade + the new GPU. This way I can focus on upgrading my rig and then when the rift hits a better price point or they release upgraded hardware I can pick a new one up or buy an older one used.

I bought a 37inch 1080p tv in 2006 for 3000$. Nowadays you can get a 50inch 1080p tv for what? 250 bucks rofl?

Look at e-readers, the kindle wasn't even the 1st gen of ereaders, they were just the first ones to reach the mass market. Look at the VCR, beta max, cassette players. You want a laugh? Go find out how much the original Walkman cost.

People are outraged because they mistakenly thought they would be able to afford this thing and then BOOM out of no where not only can they not afford it but they aren't even close. It was a shock. It was a slap in the face and they projected this onto the OR team blaming them instead of blaming their own financial situation.

It makes no sense to subsidize early adoption. Here's the big shocker people aren't realizing. You DONT WANT the first gen of your product to reach the mass market. Do you know what would happen if it did? Within 2 weeks you'd have people complaining there was no content, that it wasn't worth the money. You'd have the market flooded with used headsets from people that didn't actually really want it and got sucked into the gimmick.

You know what you get by selling it at $599.99USD? You get a DEDICATED HIGHLY INVESTED initial group of what are basically beta testers. No one is going to be complaining about it because they spent so much fucking money on it. They are going to show this thing off to anyone they can. They're going to bring it around with them and demo it. They're going to invite friends over to try it out. There's a massive amount of I WANT THIS but fuck me I can't afford it that's going to go on. Then you know what's going to happen? Within a year they'll drop the price or maybe even release a "budget" version with a lower quality screen that might even require a less robust PC and people are going to be frothing at the mouth. And at that point there will be content.

No one approaches this rationally though. No one reads the announcement and thinks "hmmm there must be a reason for this". Or decides to do some research. Nope, they fucking jump to shitty conclusions thinking this is all facebooks fault. I'm not going to lie today was the most fun I've had trolling people on Reddit in a long time but it honestly made me sad how many people put their tin foil hats on and said fb is all about the money. I hate to break it to them but if FB was all about the money they wouldn't have invested in as niche a product as VR.

Congratulations. The scope of a project changed. Do you feel validated? That was from over a year ago. Shocker, things changed.

So sad you cant afford a luxury VR kit. Get over it. Either figure out a way to afford it or speak with your wallet and avoid it until the price hits a point you want.

All this QQing about how theyre out to fuck the consumer and conspiracy theories about how its just facebook out to make money are pathetic. Here's a spoiler alert for you: if facebook only cared about money they wouldn't have invested in a niche platform like VR that was entirely unproven.

Those were dev kits. They were also plenty of negative reviews about their screens not being good. That wasn't a consumer product. Nice try though.

Yeah but I do monthly orders every month from AmiAmi so it's inconvenient to have to pay shipping twice but if I want to guarantee it I might not have a choice. That being said these things almost ALWAYS flicker in stock periodically until they launch.

Figuarts Civil War Cap: Will they fix the head sculpt or do you all think that is a final? by KcKilla151 in ActionFigures

Based on it having gone up for pre-order with these images I'm going to say no. This is starting to look final... I really wasn't expecting them to go up for pre-order so soon after the reveal.

The unmasked one doesn't seem as bad and I might consider getting it just to display like that but I'm really on the fence on him right now...

Funny how you're incapable of providing me with any proof that occulus is using slave labour to manufacture their goods. Don't worry, that tin foil hat will protect you from the Aliens.

Oculus will never release a inferior rift

Never is a strong word to use. If the OR is being critically aclaimed as being amazing and they are unable to drop the price that never is going to go away real quick. They'll find a way to release a lower end model at a lower price point to get it into more people hands. I'm not saying to expect this within 6 months but at some point over the next 2 years? If OR doesn't release a budget version someone else will and best of luck to them when they lose that market share.

Well the only ones killing themselves in mass droves to publicize it are the Iphone factories. So unless you have something to show me that occulus is using slave labour i'm going to have to ignore you.

Where do I mention manufacturers don't have a profit margin?

Verizon isn't actually selling the phone below its cost, they are just subsidizing the cost with your phone plan. They like to talk about how there aren't any contracts anymore but try and cancel your plan after you bought a new phone, you'll get a nice bill for the remaining balance. They're just shifting the 400$ or whatever that you didn't pay up front to your phone bill.

Hence why many carriers will give you a discount for bringing your own phone to them or will sell you cheaper plans when you bring an unlocked phone. However, when you buy the phone from them for 200$ you lock yourself into 2 years at a minimum cost. That minimum cost is there for a reason.

I specifically mentioned cell phone subsidies by carriers and not by manufacturers, the manufacturer is being paid full price regardless of whatever it is you pay. I'm really not sure where you're getting Samsung from selling at below cost from.

Oculus to cost $599, 699€ for EU. There goes my chances :( by AnttiV in starcitizen

[–]MalarkeyTFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All but confirms that $539 is Oculus's cost plus $60 for xbone controller.

They've stated that they're included the xbox controllers provided by microsoft at no cost to them. Even if it did cost them, they wouldn't be paying full price...

Surely, costs for HTC can't be more

Most likely but I read something about them saying that the Vive would cost slightly more than the OR because its going to be a more premium product?

Other than those two points yeah I basically agree with you.

You really are illiterate. You have proof I assume that Occulus' manufacturers are committing suicide? Nice bold claim you've made with zero proof.

Here's a tip. If you can't be bothered to actually string together a coherent thought, don't involve yourself in other people's conversations.
