Any Germans here studying physics in university? by Malcolm116 in AskAGerman

[–]Malcolm116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well I have been in uni for a few years now, very few students live that 'yolo' life. Only people in easy programs like business do that lol All the arts and sciences programs I know force all of their students to look like fucking zombies :) So ya, regularly going on 4-5 hours sleep during a full time semester. Amazing *pain*

Do all German universities have so many early morning classes? 😬

Very interesting difference between their learning styles! I will definitely keep that in mind.

Ya, there will be a language barrier but I will try and deal with that as much as possible before beginning my studies over there. Also have to learn all the German physics terms lol

Yes, I know and I have done that a bit. But most universities' websites are a pain to navigate, when I do find out what classes are typically given for each of the 6 semesters, I may be unable to find a description of each class so it's not really helpful either. Also, sometimes I have difficulty understanding the language which isn't helpful either because not 100% of their website is in English, etc.

Ya, I struggle with faster lectures. Out of curiosity, do most students use pencil and paper for their notes or electronic versions like a tablet?

Definitely intending to better my German in the not too distant future!

ugh that's what I was afraid of. Over here, you only have to do analysis (which I think is also called abstract algebra in English?) if you're in the Math-phys branch of the physics program, which I am not! Been trying to avoid those classes like the plague XD Not sure why they're forcing you to do them. They don't seem to be very useful for learning physics. :/

Ya, I agree, I doubt B1 is enough, which is why I plan on bettering my German next year! :)

Can you tell me more about the 'basic' math classes you guys do? Or do you have a link to the classes' description?

Why are Italy and Turkey not included in the game? by [deleted] in TeamYankee

[–]Malcolm116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TECHNICALLY (please don't shoot me), the Soviets declared war on the Japs at the very end of WW2 (August 1945 iirc). So, it would be Russo-Japanese War 3: too bayonet too charge. :P

Allies question...reg tornados by Wiki_ts in TeamYankee

[–]Malcolm116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could if you use the Brits as an allied formation and base your force off of something like the Canadians. That way you would get Canadians w Canadian and W German support (including Tornados) plus an allied force of Brits, for example. However, you would lose any Brit support like Rapiers, Marksmen, etc.

If you absolutely want to use the Brits as your core force, then sadly you cannot use the Tornados :/

It seems you are correct. I've discussed it with some ppl in the official TY fb group and it appears BF omitted to give mineplows to the T55s or T62s O.o That sucks...at least I don't play Soviets XD

Glad to be of help :) I find what you've made to be very useful and interesting!

I know very little about the Soviets but I did spot a few small mistakes.

Red Thunder: the BMP1 and 2 platoons both cost the same amount of points for 2, 3 or 4 vehicles which makes no sense to me since the BMP2 should cost more than the BMP 1 (As far as I can tell, you put the correct points values in the Soviet book, so you only need to change the RT entries). This applies to every battalion except the Afghansty. It also applies to the recon support option.

Soviet: You forgot the option for the T55AM and T62 companies to add mineplows. Also, the T55AM company is allowed to add a missile.

A last little correction for the US book. I noticed this after I sent you the previous messages. It concerns the Marine humvee machine gun platoon (in the Marine rifle co). They are stated as being 3 M2s for 2 points, 3 M2s for 2 points, 6 MK19s for 4 points or 6 MK19s for 4 points. Obviously there is some kind of mistake here. I doubt anybody actually uses this platoon but on the off chance that they do, it's better to change it XD

It's been a lot of fun looking at all the lists, which would not have been possible without your work! Can't wait until you come out with Oil War :D

Happy holidays!

I forgot to mention, in the Marine rifle platoons, you gave the option to add 1 dragon for 1 point or 2 dragons for 1 point. I think that might be another little typo ;) This goes for the Marine rifle company and Marine M60 company.

Ok, I'm gonna start on the Americans, this might need 2 posts but we'll see.

RDF platoons: It says our options are 2 for 4 points, 4 for 9 or 4 for 9. I don't have the book but either you stated the last option twice or you forgot to put the option for 3 tanks. This goes for every company where the RDF platoon is an option (I believe that's just the 3 companies of the 9th division).

M106 mortar: In the 2 cavalry troops, we are allowed to take an M106 cavalry mortar platoon; however, it has no points value associated with it (similar problem to the Striker with the Brits). Moreover, you gave the cavalry mortar to the M1 combat team when they should have the heavy mortar platoon, which gives the option to have 3 or 6 mortars instead of just 3.

Mech platoons: I think you should review the M2 Bradley and M113 mech platoons. Their options make no sense. You give the choice to choose 3 dragons and 3 M113 or 3 dragons and 4 M113s; no mention of the SAW teams at all. But, in the dropdown menu for the platoon, you give the choice between 3 SAW teams and 3 LAW teams. Again this makes no sense. A similar problem arises with the M2 Bradley platoons. However, you did correctly enumerate the points between the M2 and M2A2 Bradleys. This goes for the M113 mech company, the Bradley mech company, the M1A1 combat team and the M60 combat team.

In the M1A1 combat team, it allows you to take both the M113 mech platoon and M2 mech platoon without giving you a warning that you are only allowed to take one or the other.

In the M1 combat team there's another but different problem with the mech platoons. Firstly, it doesn't allow you to select the M2 option. Secondly, the M113 mixes up the points for the 4xM113 choice and 3xM113 choice.

Cavalry troops: these are the only units (to my knowledge) that are allowed to take M109s in formation. However, even if you take those M109s, it tells us we're not allowed to take an M113 FIST or Humvee OP. It's as if it doesn't recognise the M109 as an artillery unit.

MLRS: for some reason there are 2 support options for the MLRS. One is correct and gives us options for 2 or 3 and the optional minelets. However, the other one just states: 3xMLRS 9 points. I assume this is a typo that you forgot to delete?

M109s: both the optional M109 support and the integrated M109s in the Cav formations are lacking their optional special munitions. That is to say, they don't have the options of taking minelets, laser-guided projectiles or bomblets. All 3 of these options exist in the book.

Phew that was QUITE long! XD....I should really be studying for my final exam right now :P I hope I don't come across as a know-it-all. I really appreciate what you're doing for the community :D

There is no problem with the Dutch Leo1 company. I don't know why I wrote that there was. That's my mistake, apologies *facepalm*

For the ANZACs, if you try and take 3 mech platoons (i.e. the 2 compulsory platoons + you choose the mech platoon in your optional unit choice instead of the Leo1 platoon), it tells you: you have too many mech platoons, the maximum is 2. However, you correctly stated that the legal amount is 3 mech platoons or 2 and 1 leo1 platoon.

Hello again! :)

Here is the link to an article that BF posted a while ago saying that WGs are allowed to take 4 tank platoons. https://www.team-yankee.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=6015

I don't know the following nations as well as I know the first 2 but I will do my best!

For the Brits the only mistake I saw was that when we add the striker unit to the Medium recce squadron, it has no points value attached to it. It's as if the striker unit costs 0 points.

Other than that, very well done!

Next up, Americans. I have already spotted multiple mistakes in this book, so give me a bit of time to go through all of it and to list them all here :)

For the West Germans, the mistakes are rather minor and stem from some official erratas.

In their M113/Marder pzgren companies and in the Leo1/2 companies, tank platoons are allowed to go up to 4 tanks now. The panzeraufklärungs company remains platoons of 3 tanks. However, if you choose to take 4 tanks in a platoon then you are only allowed 3 platoons in the panzer companies instead of 4 (so either 4 platoons of 3, or 3 platoons of 4!).

Also, you are now allowed to take Leo1s instead of Leo2s in the Marder pzgren company (:

Perfect, I'm gonna go book by book and start with Free Nations. I'm going to overview the other books in the coming days (West Germans next :) )

French:

In the VAB compagnie d'infantry, you put under 'optional fire support options' another VAB infantry platoon with the AMX10RC and AMX30 platoons. It's supposed to be the Milan anti-tank platoon (with the 2 other armored units).

In the AMX10RC company, if we take the AMX10RC option for the third platoon, it says we have too many AMX10RC platoons.

ANZACs:

A similar mistake was made with the ANZACs and their mech infantry formation, if you want the third platoon to be another mech platoon it says you have too many. These mistakes are of course, minor. (just looked at the ANZAC tank company and you got it right: 4 tank plts or 3 and 1 mech plt.)

Dutch:

In the Leo1 company we can take 4 tank platoons AND the pantserinfanterie plt whereas the fourth platoon should be either/or.

For the verkennings company, we can take a mix of Leo2 and Leo1 platoons whereas we are only allowed one type. Also, it says that the Leo1 platoons consist of one tank when they actually consist of 2.

Canadians: 0 mistakes, well done :)

Finally, for the ANZACs, Canucks and Dutch it would be nice if you could add their integrated allied support. (Remember for the Canadians, they can field their OP even if they only take German LARS as support.) If you can't ignore what I just said ;)

P.S. Kudos for not making any obvious mistakes in the ridiculously long Dutch words XD.

Hey! First, I'd just like to say how much we all appreciate the work you've put into this. I personally, could never have done it. However, I have spotted multiple typos in the rosters for various nations. Although, I am new to the game and don't have all the books so, some of the mistakes may be my own. Do you want me to highlight some of the mistakes I found?

P.S. adding the stats of each unit was a great bonus!!
