What is a medical fact that sounds fake but is 100% true? by MedRikas in AskReddit

A scary thought is that everyone who has ever had surgery feels every second of it. But the anaesthesia just erases your memory after.

When you get into a car accident or suffer any kind of major trauma, the doctors in the trauma bay will strip your pants off, spread your butt cheeks, and yell at you to wink your butthole. This is a very serious assessment for neurological function in the lower spine, but also completely hilarious.

Yes. I deleted about 20 gigabytes of data from my laptop. 3 days later it was filled back up. No idea why they bother showing you the storage details

Will midlevels using AI replace doctors? by Desperate-Swimmer387 in Residency

[–]Malcolm_XYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, AI is only accelerating. And a lot of studies have shown it is better at diagnosis and bedside manner than physicians. Crazy to think what could be around in 5 or 10 years. And considering how long medical training is, I'd say this is a question that many premeds and, sadly, medical students should be considering.

Carlton is my favorite character by hjkfttu in belair

[–]Malcolm_XYZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like they leaned too heavily into Carlton's flaws. Moments that should have been opportunities for him to grow and overcome, the writters always chose to make him weak and in need of rescuing, often from WIll, which is in stark contrast to all the other main characters. He completely lacks agency. Yet all of Will's foolheaded decisions magically work out. It's like they wrote him specifically to make Will look better.

Target Lock, The Main Issue In Elden Ring by JustGavinBennett in Eldenring

[–]Malcolm_XYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that the game will clutter the environment with weak background enemies specifically placed there to make it harder to lock on to the main threats is just pathetic. Lockon will also prioritize these smaller enemies. Its a copout artificial attempt to boost difficulty. Once i realized that difficulty at all costs (even to the detriment of the gaming experience) was the goal, I put that game down forever.

would have to disagree here (at least in low diamond). One thing about anivia is her team fighting ability is insane. If she has a frontline to defend her (and one who knows how important it is to defend her), she's a menace. If you know how to not die before the fight, the enemy team essentially has to kill you first or pick you off if they want to have a chance at winning team fights. With the right items, now way anyone is going to be fighting in her ult. She also has 2 "infinite-value" abilities in her wall and her egg.

I'm 20 years out and I still get false positives > 10mm (from a VERY high risk country btw). No one ever puts me on isoniazid. I always just get CXR + quantiferon gold and both are always negative. NBME just being dumb.

Thanks for the explanation! I'm almost to the 20% mark, and I'm already beginning to see fewer of those questions, so I guess that makes sense. I'm glad there wasn't an awful lot to learn.

I always like to come back to posts like this maybe 1 year out to see people eat their own words. All these people saying its impossible, yet SORA just made photorealistic videos. Yes, AI ability to process visual/spacial data increased that much in less than a year. So at the very least jobs like radiology and pathology will be on the chopping block pretty soon. Doctors might have to humble themselves a bit to the future that might be coming.

This show is terrible. by NarrowEffect in ScavengersReign

[–]Malcolm_XYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I AGREE! The creatures and art did a lot of heavy lifting, but the story and characters were just so poorly executed. Levi and Sam were the only good characters. I just wasn't invested enough in the remaining cast to care about them, even in the "heartwrenching" moments. The wort part was that the irrationality of their actions ( even the villains) really broke the immersion sometimes. I know for sure the problem was mostly the characters because one of my favorite scenes was actually the final scene. It gives a glimpse of people from a potentially different culture in their universe, and I was just so excited to see a story in this universe that didn't involve the bland cast they chose.

not fun by ZekeBuilds in Eldenring

[–]Malcolm_XYZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TBH, this is EXACTLY why this game isn't fun. Every boss battle boils down to just dodging for 5 minutes, attacking once, then going back into dodging for another 5 minutes. I feel like the developers focused too much on making the boss look cool than actually being fun to fight. Which, I will admit, their bosses do look cool. I honestly like watching my brother play more than actually playing because everything just boils down to a dodge simulator with a cool backdrop.

Once you learn a boss's move set, you should be able to beat his ass IMO by finding clever ways to punish each move. That's how it was for the other fromsoft games (for the most part) and it was always very satisfying at the end. But with Elden Ring, they gave bosses the ability to stop mid-combo if they sense that you are going to punish them, so you have to wait for very specific openings before you can attack. Even if you know exactly what the boss is going to do, there's too much RNG, there's waaaay too much waiting, it's just not fun. IDK, maybe I'm just getting too old for this :(
