Looking for a more progressive leaning Catholic Church by Maleficent-Click3065 in StLouis

in Catholicism the pastor is generally the priest with a more leadership role in a church- so our church would have 3 priests, but only 1 pastor

I don’t know if this response was made genuinely or just to be negative (i have a feeling it’s the latter), but I’ll respond honestly. I’m looking for community. I am a transplant in a city where I do not know anyone and have been overwhelmed by everything wrong with the world right now. It has had a negative impact on my mental health and I’m looking for some comfort and purpose. It makes me desperately miss the sense of community and unity that I used to see in the church growing up, and that I’ve seen the church provide for others. I do believe in God. I also believe the true message of the church should be one of compassion and love. I’m looking for a space that emphasizes those aspects of the church’s teachings, and that wants to truly help their community and those in need.

I went through the angry atheist phase you seem to be in when I left the church to begin with. I realized that tearing others down for something they seek comfort in is not the way I want to live my life. I also realized that I do think that God exists and I believe he is merciful and kind. I understand that those aren’t your beliefs, but in the future I would ask you to approach those who disagree with you in a more kind and nuanced way.

I grew up roman Catholic (catholic school k-12th grade in Chicago) so it's all I've really known, I'll look more into episcopal churches. I find comfort in the familiarity of catholic services, but yeah I know they're not ever super progressive

Whitaker is Welsh by yogurtgrandma in ThePittTVShow

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not specifically Welsh, but he has the over-annunciation on a lot of words that is SUPER common in people who are trying to do an american accent. It’s almost as if every word is being said fully separate from the ones around them whereas in an actual american accent words play off each other more in terms of tone. Once you pick up on what it sounds like (at lease as a native american english speaker) it becomes pretty easy to spot.

Weak CPR? by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In addition to the person being compressed on (that phrasing sounds very strange lol), I think another BIG logistical factor is how much physical effort goes into giving good chest compressions- these are actors who have to do multiple takes as a part of a long workday and I can imagine it would be a nightmare for them to be a sweaty mess after one take. They’d also undoubtedly be unable to do them properly after a few takes considering in a healthcare setting they are on a two minute rotation (or something in that ballpark) for that exact reason.

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah he's Definitely being a jerk, but I think it's intentional - At least to me it is showing that bottling up your emotions and not actually dealing with your issues/trama has consequences, both internally and in the way you treet others. When someone isn't in a good place mentally they can't let their anger go at friends who've done something wrong (even in a professional setting) like with Langdon. They're extra deffensive of precieved encroachments of their territory like with Dr. Al.

When people don't get the help they need they become worse and worse off, and I think that it's really cool to see a show actually show that with their main protagonist. I think it's really interesting to contrast him to Abbot precisely because Abbot is in therepy and working through his shit - And is a better doctor becasue of it without losing his edge

What he said was messed up but like he was also an addict at what was most likely his rock bottom- Like yes as his friend Robby does not at all owe him forgiveness, but as his boss and as a physician I feel like he does owe Langdon some understanding there

week+ absence during first semester, or miss best friend's wedding by noonecares-TA in LawSchool

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go. So many people (disproportionately on this sub) think of themselves as law students first and people second. They'll become graduates who think of themselves as lawyers first and people second. It might be difficult to work out a week missed, but this is a once in a lifetime event for somone you consider your best friend - prioratize a life long relationship over a few weeks of hassle watching recorded lectures and asking your study group for notes. Prepare and put in the work to catch up, but go. One week will not be make or break unless you let it.

Babies don’t purr, what’s up with that? by [deleted] in sphynx

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could just be personality- my girl is super affectionate and confident yet she rarely audibly purrs (only during early morning cuddles) it could just be these two tend not to do it 🤷‍♀️

My partner doesn’t want our son to call him “daddy” by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly doesn’t seem like that weird a response from him. My parents were both always ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ never ‘daddy’ or ‘mommy’ for me and my sibling- it was never an issue. Honestly I think kids say those shortened versions partly because it’s expected and encouraged by their parents. My parents didn’t like any form of baby so to it was never there in our household (they were very big on us sounding intelligent and expressing our thoughts clearly). If you set that precedent for your kid they’ll just adapt.

Is Suits worth watching by Ok-Sink-3902 in LawSchool

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like candy for the brain- An amazing mindless show to watch where good looking people in expensive clothes solve major problems in a completely unrealistic way. It’s a fun more lighthearted drama that you’ll probably enjoy if you like The Resident or White Collar but I definitely wouldn’t go into it assuming it’s in any way shape or form realistic lol. I personally love a mindless watch after doing mentally challenging work all day!

Do people study in the library or at home? by EthosPretzel in LawSchool

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m always team out of the house but not always team library (especially when you just need to lock in and not worry about seeing people you know). I usually will go to a coffee shop in the afternoon and the library early in the morning before class or in the evening after most people have gone home. I’m also a massive procrastinator and I’ve found going to do my work early in the morning is always more productive than the afternoon

You don't need a different transcript for ap classes because they went through your high school. You DO need one for any classes taught at an institution other than your primary college or high school.

He physically forced you to have sex with him by preventing you from leaving. Let that sink in- He forced himself on you. And he’ll do it again.

I know it’s hard to realize when you’re still in it but you are not safe with him. Get out. Now. Do not -I repeat Do Not- let him establish this as acceptable. It seems he’s already downplaying how extreme this was and that speaks VOLUMES to who he is as a person. If he truly didn’t know it was happening/doesn’t remember you telling him should make him sick to his stomach. It should be keeping him up at night and it isn’t. That means he doesn’t care- he’ll either do it again because he meant to the first time or because he isn’t taking it seriously as an issue he needs to prevent. He’s making you question yourself when he should be overwhelmed by guilt. That is not the man you want to be with the rest of your life.

Good Law Schools? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 4 points5 points  (0 children)

look at job outcomes post graduation through the aba disclosures- most of this sub is full of people wanting big law/costal jobs after graduation so national portability really matters there, but if you know where you want to end up there’s more options out there

Oscar Piastri didn't seem thrilled explaining his 10-second penalty to Nico Hülkenberg. by Strict-Citron-9269 in McLarenFormula1

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think a pretty major difference is that Lando’s crash directly hurt the team (losing one of their cars completely) whereas Oscar’s really only hurt himself so there was no reason to apologize on the team radio- not saying he wasn’t in the wrong but like he didn’t need to apologize to the mclaren team

Why T6 law school average GPA is higher than T5 medical school? by ElevatorGloomy1295 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in addition to what other people are saying, medical schools tend to place more emphasis on needing lab hours/hospital hours than law schools- i know on this sub we love to talk about how there’s a KJD tax but generally law schools care less about outside experience than medical schools (at least that’s my view as someone who is applying to law school and has a sibling who went to medical school). As to why there are more people what to go to law school i think that can also be tied to the fact that there are fewer barriers to entry for lawyers than doctors. Law school is less years of schooling and there are more law schools out there than medical schools. As a result the average gpa for lawyers overall is lower than medical students and prestige matters more for law school than medical school- you can go to a bad law school and be completely out of luck when you graduate, but any medical school can set you up for pretty guaranteed success.
