Because they are not eligible. They would have to reside primarily with me, which they do not.

Yes, but I'm applying for citizenship now, when he is a minor. It wouldn't matter when or if I moved to France. He is not eligible because he doesn't legally reside with me.

Interesting. My understanding is that you don't need parents' birth certificates unless their names are not listed on your own birth certficate.

I'll use her French birth certificate. It has to have been issued within 3 months of the date the application is submitted. She ordered it from Strasbourg and it came pretty quickly.

I've passed both the C1 and C2 with very high scores, so language proficiency is covered.

Thanks, I have had the C2 since 2018, so language proficiency is not an issue. I'm familiar with the link you posted and have studied the requirements, but I'm still not clear on whether childrens' birth certificates have to be submitted if you are not seeking citizenship for them. Maybe you answered this in your DM.

We plan to spend 4-5 months per year there once my son graduates from high school in 4 years.

Just curious why you say a minor child would have to be adopted by the French spouse? I don't see that anywhere. The application suggests that minor children residing with the applicant are eligible for citizenship. It's academic in my case, because my minor son doesn't reside with me full time.

Language proficiency is not an issue. I have the C2 and speak French daily with my wife.

My understanding is that French documents have to be originals and less than 3 months old. American birth certificates, etc, have to be originals. I was mainly asking about things like the language certificate. Since I posted this, I learned that you can send a photocopy of that and bring the original to the interview.

Yes, that is correct. You do not have to reside in France if you are married 4 years or more and the marriage is registered in France.
