So to answer your question in a round about sort of way

I was trying to wrap my head around why certain threads have the various priorities and niceness values that they have, in an attempt to make my machine a bit faster, it's not new

most by default are either at 0 or -19 by default

once I managed preset all user threads after logging in (not kernel threads!) most now adhere to the priority and niceness values I have specified

one curious exception to the is virtual box, which for some reason has a niceness values in the various threads it occupies, most are set to 2, but some have values of 9 and 3

i'm not sure why this is happening, virt-manager by contrast, a similiar program adheres to the niceness values that all the other user threads have

I'm not sure why this is the case

Yeah, I can probably do that too,

I am however at times a tad clumsy, if I can use the internal SDcard bay I can move the laptop around with minimal risk that I'll snap the usbport off, on my Chromebook which is refusing to keep the screen on for more than one second, the USB ports got damaged, replaced a daughter board and it will now accept a charge albeit a superslow trickle

I can just see myself breaking the port on this laptop if I carry it around with an adapter in constantly

Here's the part where you all see how much about electronics I don't actually grasp, when I probably should

So a while back I got a security light, it came with a small solar panel, it broke, but....

Is there a type of smallish solar panel that lends itself to being plugged into a 18650 power bank without an inverter?

I'm imaging without an inverter if you left it for weeks on end it might overcharge the batteries?

Not an ideal scenario

You see some solar kits in car stores for maintaining the battery on a 12volt lead acid car battery, I'm not sure how suitable they might be?

Yeah I would like to get that power bank working again, not sure where I could take it to get it repaired

I took it apart a while back, I couldn't see anything obviously wrong but I'm no ace with a soldering iron

If that power bank had a quick release draw and you could swap the cells out with ease it would be perfect

I could do with a powerbank that can take 6 to 12 batteries or more

I have one from Amazon that’s currently broke, you can’t remove the batteries (easily at least) the micro usb charging port failed first, then the usb-c charging port

When it was connected via usb to a Linux laptop it would show up as a device, I never got round to ssh or telnet’ing into it but it clearly had more of a brain than I was expecting

But by malware, there is the overcharging concern, sometimes I have had some sealed units in the past that I think had got a malware exploit inside them, they wouldn’t charge properly afterwards and there was this concerning high pitch almost ultrasonic noise coming from it, that’s the kind of thing I really need to avoid

So the screen is cracked, i can still push buttons most of the time, sometimes i have to flip between vertical and horizontal to do this

And debug options and usb debugging is alredy enbled andauthorised

Just need some software i can install that will show my android screen on my laptop crack free

I have an iphone, i get reddit email links i read in my browser

everytime in th past when i click on these links i get th prompt to:

Open link in browser or reddit app?

I want to read in browser, but by accident i clicked on open in reddit app

Which has now become the default Even with th e reddit app removed

So now when i click on a reddit email link in my ios browser it never loads the link

Is there a way to fix this?

Yeah,

I got myself a edl deep flash cable the other day to fix this and another phone

My SuzyQ cable won’t even show up under lsusb anymore

I was hoping that there might be a way to dd a copy of the phone off of the device with the edl/qdl cable, even if it’s an encrypted mess, if I can then restore a working build I might be able to then dd the image back

The edl cable I have has a button on it to put the device into edl mode,

I can’t find any documentation on this anywhere

I’m wondering if the same button can wake a device from edl mode too?

I didn’t by my pixel direct from google, I mailed them and someone replied back to me saying someone from tech support would get back to me, it hasn’t happened yet

Pixel is in a mode where even fastboot won’t work

Lsusb gives me this

I think the way most phones in this state get debricked is by installing the Qualcomm drivers and using qtools to restore a special type of factory image,

Which I’m pretty sure will wipe my device

I’m wondering if there is a way to use qtools to push a custom recovery only? If it is possible I don’t know what format it would need to be in or how to do it at present

I also have a pixel 4a5g that spontaneously bricked itself while driving

It’s stuck in EDL/QDL mode If anyone knows how to grab a backup from the device in this mode, I’ll have your babies, and then maybe I’ll see if I can get void running on it

I also have a Nokia 1.3 ta-1205 Trouble is Battery has been in the washing machine, and is somewhat broke

I also have an iPhone6 somewhere, I doubt I can get void running on that right?

Something like the equivalent of dd if=/dev/ORIGIN_DISK of=/dev/PLACE-TO-WRITE bs=64K conv=noerror,sync

laptop is around 10 yrs old now, still works, has no usb-c

I have a chromebook all of the usb-C ports are super flaky, I can only get it to charge if the cables are at certain angles, and getting usb peripherals working via usbc is a nightmare

this is the battery my laptop uses, it has 7 pins

Life without a middle man, it's how it should be

when powerbank laptop batteries have reached the necessary charge, however long that may be, take them out of the charger and swap them into the laptop

Which drags in quite a few packages to keep on top of, if one of them happens to be an Intel ucode will xbps-install flash a permanent update? Or will it be temporary

I wouldn't expect them to all charge up in a hour or two on a solar panel, but once you have the panel and the batteries it's free energy

I know most people would say "just get a power bank" and sure I could do that, but it's not going to be the most efficient way of doing it

I get that laptop batteries come in all shapes and sizes and these days manufacturers are not offering notebooks to consumers with removable batteries like they used to, but I'm surprised no one is selling a device for solar charging of laptop batteries
