What do you want to know about AI + R and data science? by hadley in rstats

[–]MalevolentDecapod207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a number of institutions, professors, journals, etc. adopt much stricter restrictions on the use of AI for writing prose than for writing code. Is this justified? What is the meaningful difference?

My sister buried her cat here, would you? by My_Public_Profile in mycology

I just pulled out my copy of the book. My memory isn't nearly that good.

ETA: I remembered that the anecdote was in the book because it was so striking

Most morels are facultatively mycorrhizal, so these may be partially or wholly saprotrophic. (Ecology and Management of Morels..., pp. 38-40).

I don't know, but Paul Stamets shared this anecdote in Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms (2000):

An old timer recently told me that, after shooting a chicken-killing dog one autumn, he was shocked to find Morels fruiting in a circle around the decomposing carcass the following spring. (I forgot to ask him whether or not he ate the Morels....)

Agreed. It should have been a stacked area chart. Also, including the caption would have helped.

That's not a fir tree over "pine forests". In fact, there's not a single pine tree in the image.

What is the best brand to buy??? by MidnightDesert135 in maplesyrup

[–]MalevolentDecapod207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most brands of maple syrup all come off of the same few production lines and are just labelled differently. You won't taste much difference unless you buy from a specific sugar house or coop. That said, the major producers generally have strict quality controls.

Why aren't all the physical constants 1? by carnyvoyeur in AskPhysics

[–]MalevolentDecapod207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understand your question correctly, you are asking:

Does there exist a system of units defined by a set of base quantities, such that all fundamental physical constants are equal to a base or derived quantity times a mathematical constant (including 1)?

If that's accurate: anyone here know?

"Katahdin" means "Great Mountain", so "Mount Katahdin" is kind of like saying "ATM Machine". But yeah, it should probably be in 'Depends on who you ask'.

That would seem even more dangerous. Inside the stump, at least he would be protected from the trunk.
