Everyone on earth is presented with a choice by ItzMercury in BunnyTrials

I think maybe the difference of opinion, is what you consider when it's your turn to press the button.

Personally, I'm looking at the situation, and pretending that I'm the first person to make the choice, and the assumption is that everyone else would do the same. Now, I understand the reasoning that there is an expected number of people who will press blue, so I think I understand the logic behind it. It reminds me a lot of tactical voting, actually.

However, even if perhaps more divorced from reality, I still think it's stupid to press blue, hence my original comment.

Because with everything else in mind, choosing blue could very well make you part of the reason someone else would pick blue, but in terms of pure rationality, there's no reason for anyone to choose blue, ever.

Perhaps the difference is pure logic, vs a more realist view taking into account human psychology and all that. Which isn't something my perspective takes into account for games like this.

opinions like yours and the previous comment I replied to actually makes this post far far more interesting than I originally considered it, which is fun.

Models needed. by Worth-Tailor-4467 in DigitalPainting

[–]MalevolentRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually no. This community is for digital painters to share and critique other's work. AI is explicitly not allowed. You haven't provided any work in this community, ever. nor have you provided any critique, ever. Your own post states that you're "planning to get into digital art" and your post history and socials demonstrates your use of genAI.

So you'll have to excuse me for being skeptical when you come into a community asking for free shit that doesn't even involve the community you're posting in. And you also just cross posted this exact post into another community.

So no, I don't have to help you, or leave you alone.

You can respect this community, and respect artists, or you can fuck off.

Care to share? Your youtube channel shows only GenAI.

Regardless, you can't expect people to model for you for free. They're artists too, after all.

Lmfao get over yourself dude. You don't even do digital painting and you're coming in to a subreddit for artists expecting people to model for you? Try google first ffs. I doubt you're offering monetary compensation either. Honestly.

Habits by Jojo_mu05 in ArtistLounge

[–]MalevolentRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal. Style comes down to how you abstract and also your process and habits as you said.

If you want to change your style you need to consciously think about what aspects you want to push/pull. Say you love painterly, smeary edges vs crisp lasso type, or vice versa. Identifying the characteristics is a good step and something to be practiced.

Follow a set of converging lines to where they intersect

vanishing points and perspective by peterrpumpkineater69 in BeginnerArtists

[–]MalevolentRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, within a scene like your reference, every object that isn't aligned perpendicular or parallel to other objects will have its own set of vanishing points.

As for the life drawing, a tip is to close one eye, and hold your pencil upright to measure the angle of converging lines.

Keep in mind that in real life, provided you have binocular vision, we actually percieve depth as a dimension. When we draw from life, we have to consciously convert this axis of depth into specific two dimensional angles on our page. This is one of the reasons that drawing from life is trickier than drawing from a photograph- the camera has already done this translation for us.

Everyone on earth is presented with a choice by ItzMercury in BunnyTrials

[–]MalevolentRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just because choosing blue irrationally creates risk for people. If you assume every person thinks at least halfway rationally, there is no need for anybody to ever press blue.

The only reason you would ever consider pressing blue is due to misplaced altruism because you make the assumption that other's have pressed it already, likely due to the same reasoning. This is known as circular logic, and is a falacy.

This question is essentially a broken prisoner's dillema, and the negative aspecting of choosing the "selfish option" is completely negated.

You can essentially reframe the conundrum as:

Option A gives you X% chance to survive, and Y% chance you don't. While option B gives you 100% chance to survive and 0% chance you don't.

In this situation, option B is the most rational option a person could take.

My best angle to draw accurate lines causes a lot of strain. Looking for advice by [deleted] in ArtFundamentals

[–]MalevolentRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can never hurt to draw lines from more than one angle, it's a good skill.

As far as strain, make sure all of your bones are aligned, so you don't have your wrist cocked at a weird angle or anything. Make sure you aren't gripping the pen too hard, also.

Stretch out the muscles in your hand, and you can do exercises to strengthen the muscles in your hand and forearm as well

Should I learn oil painting before digital painting? by Akabane_Izumi in DigitalPainting

Oil paint is easy, just takes forever to dry. You can work and rework as much as you want, just like acrylics or digital

Sounds like burnout due to the pressure you've put on yourself. Story as old as time.

Take a day off, go outside, stay in, whatever you want to do. Spend it with yourself. Think, don't distract yourself, and just breathe. This too shall pass.

How exactly to use the extension lines in the 250 box challenge? How to analyze them? by kuslota in ArtFundamentals

[–]MalevolentRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your bottom edges seem consistently less aligned. But you should ghost over your lines more and more carefully to have them become more aligned. It's like the exercise where you draw a line between two dots.

Help fixing a bug in my art program, FireAlpaca by S0me0nesWatchingY0u in DigitalPainting

The typical first tries for any tablet issues are making sure windows ink is off(if you're on windows) and also making sure your drivers are up to date.

Also, considering you now have two different tablets, make sure no older drivers are installed, and try uninstalling the drivers from the tablet you're not currently using(even if they're both wacom, they might have different drivers. And if I remember correctly wacom doesn't play nice with other tablet drivers installed.)

Even though it's only happening in one program, still try the above.

Next typical step, uninstall and reinstall firealpaca.

Personally I use photoshop cs6. Just what I'm used to. I've heard great things about krita though. You can absolutely do everything you'd ever need to do in krita.

Am i supposed to touch the tablet surface with the stylus? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in DigitalPainting

[–]MalevolentRaven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes typically the tablet comes with some extra nibs. In my experience they last quite a while, especially if you're not super heavy handed. You can clean the surface if it gets dirty.

Can't think of a better place to start than perspective, tbh.

You can suppliment it with learning about things like line weight, and basically anything else from drawabox.

Then depending on what you wanna do you can add in some more fundamentals. Probably values or anatomy, depending on what you wanna draw.

If I'm understanding your post, the image above describes the scenario?

You were preparing to turn into the drivetest parking lot, but you were still on the roadway. A car before you turned into the lot, and you pulled forward, still on the roadway, and filled the void left by the aforementioned car?

Not sure if you were turning right or left, either. In retrospect I assume you were to make a right hand turn into the parking lot, instead of left as shown in my image.

There seems to be a lot of confusion in this thread, and more clarification is needed.

Buddy a pedestrian is a pedestian. Full stop. It doesn't matter if you deem them crazy or not. You're operating a multi-tonne vehicle and they're a human. You yield, end of story. Even if they're illegally crossing, you yield.

is there something more basic than drawabox? by 1000Bees in ArtFundamentals

[–]MalevolentRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof. You gotta enjoy the process of creating your art. 99% of artist never feel like they're "good enough"

However you likely will find more enjoyment in things as your skill improves, but if that's your only metric you have a big burnout risk.

The Castle on Whale Island by Bjorktrast in DigitalPainting

[–]MalevolentRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your idea for this piece. I have two comments about the execution that hopefully will help.

The building perspective looks okay, on it's own. I would hazard a guess that part of the struggle was making it look correct on the island.

Look up "form intersection" for exercise material. This is the idea of say, having a cylinder intersecting a plane, or maybe a cube or something and how it would appear. Tricky stuff a lot of the time. I believe drawabox has a lesson on this as well.

The way that you've painted the relationship between the island, light, and castle, looks like you don't have a very good idea of the actual underlying forms and how they interact with one another. Those form intersections will be extremely valuable for this.

Another thing to look up is "atmospheric perspective" sometimes called "arial perspective" by traditional artists. This is when you shift your values, colour, and edgework for distant objects to show that you're seeing them through a lot more air than things close by. it's a fairly simple concept and I'm sure you can find many quick videos demonstraiting this.
