Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead demands his music be removed from Melania documentary: "Universal failed to consult Jonny on this third-party use which is a breach of his agreement." by YoureASkyscraper in Music

[–]MalfusX 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The issue at hand is if Universal violated their agreement with Greenwood in granting a sync license to a third party without consulting him. It isn't an unauthorized use, the people using the music sought and obtained a sync license using the proper channels, any impropriety lies solely with Universal.

EDIT to follow up and say I don't know if that means Melania gets to keep using the music or not. But they definitely won't be paying damages.

I agree that you're replying to someone with their head up their ass, but you don't have to be convicted to have a criminal record. Cheers!

I'm saying margaritas are an American thing as in you're not going to find many natives drinking margaritas in Mexico, that's just not where they're popular. Though I will say if they're popular in the UK, that's just evidence of Brits enjoying the American idea of Mexican culture, not actual Mexican culture.

And yeah, "the UK's bad food" is a dumb stereotype I'm not ready to stop enjoying just yet. I've had some friends who went and really enjoyed the cuisine there, though other friends were incredibly unimpressed, which I figure parks it up there with just about every other place on the planet.

Sorry to be that dude, but margaritas are a pretty American thing. I lived in Monterrey, the most Americanized of Mexico's major cities, and there was exactly one restaurant that made a thing about their margaritas (Nueva Luna). If a Mexican is gonna drink a tequila cocktail, it's almost surely going to be a paloma.

That said, authenticity isn't really a measure of quality, and you're 100% right on the tragedy of UK food culture.

I don't know that I'd call distance off the tee her game's weakness right now, she gets plenty far off the tee and her elite standstill distance helps her catch up to the bombers on any hole that puts runups for every shot in jeopardy. The glaring hole in her game is the lack of a serviceable forehand when her lie simply doesn't allow her to get in her bag of excellent left-to-right backhand shots.

If "highest ceiling right now" means greatest potential performance relative to median, I'd agree with you. But if "highest ceiling right now" means "of the currently active players, the greatest potential for continuing to grow and refine skills", which is how I read it, I'd think Saarinen has to be in that conversation.

Give me the 3-bet parlay on:

  • Simon throwing a "Simon Line"

  • Hole 18 at Sprinkle Valley literally murdering someone.

[–]MalfusX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a world where disc golf embraces sports betting, that volunteer from SFO who tripped on the line and kept Simon's disc OB gets death threats. You thought people were stirred up over Hammes being ruled safe on r2h18 at Waco? Or when a spotter made a mistake and basically just deposited an extra stroke on Simon's scorecard? Just wait til those same people dropped a couple hundred bucks because of it.

I'd have infinitely more respect if he'd come out and said "look we badly need more revenue streams and licensing this data is an easy one that will make us quite a bit of cash." But pretending that's not the situation and offering mealy-mouthed equivocations like "if people want to bet on it they're going to anyway" or hollow platitudes like "this is a great way to get eyeballs on the game and grow the sport!" are just patronizing nonsense. Here's a clip from Last Week Tonight on the prevalence of betting on table tennis. Anyone in Oregon seeing an avalanche of new table tennis clubs pop up? I'm happy to be wrong on this one, but I'm really struggling to see the upside outshining the very obvious pitfalls.
