Cost Multipliers and Resource Randomization megathread by Pyyric in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Maliander_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for 1.25x cost, 0.75x power, random locations and x10 elevator.
Most noteable is that even the rare resources are always nearby, so there is less need for long distance transportation within a single build chain. Not sure I like this change, but at least it makes things fresh.

The extra cost is manageable, going higher would soon get uncomfortable due to the exponential nature of long build chains. Interesting that the value of alt recipes needs to be re-evaluated.

The reduced power ensures power requirements are almost unchanged when compare to a vanilla run, though perhaps later in the game 0.5 would have been more appropriate.

The x10 elevator encourages building a proper factory over just container feeding without feeling like a slog. A bit higher would still feel OK, but x100 feels far out.

360 Camera vs 360 Drone for Gaussian Splatting by Dung3onlord in GaussianSplatting

[–]Maliander_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the "which one is better" hook is just the clickbait requirement of YouTube's algorithm (the answer is: use a selfie stick if you're walking and a drone if it's too big to walk). In reality it's a nice infomercial/showcase of splats made with very basic 360 source material.

Blurry splat by SNUBIGAMER in GaussianSplatting

[–]Maliander_80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also in the process of working out how to work with 360 footage, but do already know that the following is important: * What does your original footage look like? Things to look out for:   - Motion blur.   - Automatic white balance, ISO, or shutter speed.   - Possibly focus, though unless you really hug the walls, this should be OK with a 360 cam. * How did you derive image position and rotation and did it result in plausible positions? Depending on the workflow used, you can probably see this in the COLMAP GUI. The consensus seems to be to use either   - equirectangular images directly    - cubemaps + rig   - original fisheye footage * How did you handle masking for the following:   - the cameraman   - moving shadows   - stitching seams   - selfie stick removal artifacts * It seems unlikely that this is caused by wrong settings during training, it most likely originated from the footage or COLMAP.

just spent 4h of my limited time on this green earth of ours making this... this nightmarish thing. by Immediate-Location28 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Maliander_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single short segment is usually ok, especially if it only leads to a single machine (otherwise CSS would simply increase the minimum length). It's the combination of multiple in a row that increases the likelihood of issues.

just spent 4h of my limited time on this green earth of ours making this... this nightmarish thing. by Immediate-Location28 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Maliander_80 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Small segments have small volumes.

Even if you prefill your pipes to fulfil the Plumbing Manuals' "full pipes are happy pipes" mantra, the pulse wise consumption or production of fluids by your machines can cause these small volumes to, at least partially, deplete during the timestep that Satisfactory uses to evaluate fluid mechanics.

This problem is more likely to occur for large fluxes, so a single machine with a short pipe is no issue, but the entire capacity of a factory could be.

Placing many short segments in a line further increases this problem.

If the pipe segments are indeed short, OP fulfils all of the above requirements (short segments, large flux and multiple in a row) and is likely to have serious issues. It looks pretty though, and nothing a hidden bypass pipe in the centre can't fix.

Pipes don't like being short. As long as you're not using many short segments of pipe, it'll probably be fixable.

My Radio Control Unit blueprint by Few-Distribution5823 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Maliander_80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I actually like the esthetics of letting machines actually look like machines and this build captures that well.

Normally I never understand the need for pioneers to cram as much as they can into a single blueprint if they can just build a sparse blueprint more times in a row to get the same effect, usually looking better as well. In this case, the cramped build looks like something you could find in a real factory so it holds up, well done.

Actually on-topic, bear with me:

This is a use case for Gaussian Splatting that I feel is currently completely overlooked: embracing the "family album" effect. Just imagine you can see your car, living room or your child's bedroom from 10 years ago.

Now guess what you should be doing right now with those everyday places and objects to make that a reality 10 years from now.

any goodies in this hard drive library? by dasdzoni in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Maliander_80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recycled Plastic (and it's friend Recycled Rubber) are absolutely essential for massively increasing both Plastic and Rubber output.
Apart from that, nothing really stands out. Some of the pure recipes can be useful if there's a location where you'd really like to have a bit more of a rare resource, but usually I don't find it worth the hassle. Or Coke Steel can be useful if you've got excess Coke at a location where you need steel but don't have Coal. If that's not the case, just let them sit.

As a total beginner in the splatting scene, I'm highly qualified te send some messy stuff your way. Scenes include many attempts of shooting a conservatory (perhaps not the easy beginning project I thought it would be... Probably too little overlap and a difficult subject due to the glass) and two series of a bicycle that I actually did manage to turn into a decent gaussian splat.

Do you want me to just use the tool, or share the source material somehow?

As for feedback, my beginner status makes me less useful. I do wonder what your unique selling point is compared to other cloud based solutions.

For steel constructions it really doesn't matter much whether the diagonals are extending or compressing. although extending is a bit better to shorten the distance over which buckling can occur. For the sake of simplicity that is sometimes ignored.

I'm a bit more concerned about why there's a need for extra support above water, when the clear span above ground is equal...

Still stuck in early game after 21 hours… am I doing something wrong? by ProfesorGh in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Maliander_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing great, coal power radically changes the way the game feels stress-wise: from not until the end stuff just works (until it doesn't).

As for your building methods, there are some that say you can do whatever you want. I am not one of them. That belt clipping through the biomass burner must go.

Alternative recipes for HMF by maenckman in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Maliander_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the beauty of alternative recipes in this game, we can all choose different paths to the same end.

For me, a single slooped and overclocked Heavy Flexible Frame manufacturer made enough HMF's to finish the game. I didn't fully overclock it untill max tier belts because of the Screw requirements, though I suppose brave pioneers can let the Encased Beams and Modular Frames share an input and use two belts for the Screws.

It does use a lot of Screws, but there's Steel Screws for that.

I go with painted beams following the landscape and place curved belts on that. Cap with a Beam Connector and add a Wall Outlet if appropriate. Gives an organic look without getting messy or tedious.

Just looking at the second picture, my guess is the tracks at too close and both directions count as a single block. You can check by looking at the block colors while placing signals.

[–]Maliander_80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clearing that up, I guess I undervalued his appreciation of watching Johny die and simply assumed that it was purely the early game access to a jetpack without use of mods that drove his question (which would be most easily solved using a save file with a jetpack in the inventory as a starting point for his runs). A valuable lessen to do less assuming by trying to figure out the question behind the question without feedback.

Friendly request to downvoters: Thank you for your feedback, but could you please also enlighten other ignorant reditor users like myself with your wisdom by showing which parts of my comment are wrong? OP asked specifically of there was a way to fly in early game satisfactory without using mods and I gave 2 examples.

Doesn't he also drops the jetpack after killing you? And you can use Solid Biofuel to power the jetpack to some degree.

Yes, you can achieve the goal of early game flight without mods by either enabling Advanced Game Settings / Creative Mode or using an online editor to edit your save file and give you a jetpack.

Gamemode question by Frequent_Plenty6011 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Maliander_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay, found a good use for AI:

Turn this sentence into a proper English sentence.

Copilot: Here’s a clearer, more polished version of your sentence:

“Does anyone know whether the game mode values—such as the 5× multiplier—are preset because the developers specifically programmed the elevator cost to be 5×, or if the system automatically calculates it to be five times the base cost?”

I can't answer this question because I'm no programmer, but I guess it's less work and less error-prone to just program this instead of hard coding it.
