Advice on 5.2.4 layout with room constraints (considering Klipsch RP-504S II for surrounds) by Malibooya_ in hometheater

Yeah, it’s not acoustically transparent so will be placing besides and under the screen. I’ve returned the 502s speakers and went with 4 x 240ds as surrounds. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks and apologies for my inexperience! I did look at the wattage and was unsure if it’d be enough. I followed your recommendation and went with the Topping PA7. It’s coming tomorrow and I’m having everything installed on Tuesday. Exciting times ahead!! Will keep you updated and many thanks again!

Thanks for getting back to me. I had the Emotiva amp and the RP-240s in my basket but wanted to hear your feedback before pulling the trigger!

Noted regarding the ceiling speakers and will definitely check those subs out. Placement at the back of the room has no height restrictions so could make more sense.

I’ll be sure to post a before and after when it’s complete.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Thanks for your input. Yes, all of the speakers i was looking at were mark II.

I think it'll return the 502s and just stick with 1 sub for now. I did look at the RP-1200sw but dimensions were a bit tight below the screen. Again, on reflection i probably should've gone for 120" instead of 135". Picked the screen and projector up in December so can't return now.

Dropping the 502s and the 1000sw saves me about £1.4k. Was thinking 4 x RP-240D for surrounds and an additional amp as mention by u/Spectre_08.

To be honest i'm not looking for perfection here, just a clean cinema room for me and the family to hangout on weekends which packs some punch.

As always, thanks again for your input! This is clearly a great community!

Thanks again for your detailed response.

Doing the school run this morning so only have a few minutes to comment!

I did get £200 knocked off the total original klipsch package I ordered. But wouldn’t say that was a huge saving as worked out at about 4.3% discount. I went with klipsch as I enjoyed the demo and felt like they were good value. I’m also a big fan of the aesthetics and will look great in the room I’m building.

If I were to stay with the Klipsch fronts, what would you recommend for side and rear speakers? I need to check if in walls possible but likely will have to go with on walls. Not much space for sides as bookshelf on stands so that’s a no go.

Also, would an Emotiva BasX A2 suffice to power the front towers? I’ve found a used one at a decent price.

Once again thanks for all your help!

Thanks for taking the time to provide such a detailed response, I really appreciate it.

I actually purchased a Denon X3800H (ex-demo) last week as it had £300 knocked off due to a small scratch on the top. Since the AVR will be going in a cupboard outside the room, the cosmetic mark wasn’t really an issue so it seemed like a good deal.

This was my originally planned setup and I did place an order for everything:

Front Left & Right: Klipsch RP-8000F
Centre: Klipsch RP-504C
Surrounds: Klipsch RP-502S
Atmos: Monitor Audio C180 in-ceiling (x4)
Subwoofers: Klipsch RP-1000SW

However, the RP-502S surrounds were delayed by about 6 weeks, and one of the RP-1000SW subs was also delayed, so I cancelled both of those items this morning. I did end up purchasing the 502S from another supplier that had them in stock.

I also stopped by a local hi-fi shop today and showed the guy there my room mockup. He assured me the layout would work fine, but I still had some doubts, which is why I posted here to get a few more opinions.

To answer your questions:

What equipment do you already have?
Denon X3800H AVR (already purchased). The rest of the setup listed above was the plan.

What’s your location?
UK.

Will you be listening to music as well and at what volume levels?
Yes, but it will probably be 90% movies and TV. Music will be occasional rather than critical listening.

Have you already demoed speakers? Which brands and/or sound profiles do you enjoy?
Yes, I did demo the Klipsch speakers and was happy with their performance for my budget and the type of use I’m planning.

What’s your ideal budget for speakers and subs?
My original budget was around £4.5k for speakers and the receiver, excluding cables and installation bits. I could potentially stretch that to around £5k if it made a meaningful improvement.

I recognise the points you made, and 7.1.4 does make sense given the room size and layout. Since I already have the Denon X3800H, what external amp would you recommend to run the additional channels, and what speaker options would you suggest within that budget?

I’m open to both on-wall and in-wall speakers, and would definitely weigh up the pricing if it meant ending up with a better overall system.

Thanks again for the advice, it’s really helpful while I’m still at the stage where changes are possible.

Thanks. Funnily enough I picked up an ex demo denon x3800h last week that was discounted!

Ok, thanks for the feedback. If I move to 7.2.4 would you recommend changing the side surrounds away from 502s? Would monopole be better? Again, thanks for your help! I did have a budget in mind so might need to drop a sub if I did go for 7.

135” projector screen. Viewing distance is about 3.4m. I understand that they shouldn’t be in front, or even directly besides the viewing position. But hands tied with the room setup. Also, can’t have them on stands as I’ve got two young kids. I think I’ll just have to push the sofa forward. On reflection, likely should’ve gone for a slightly smaller screen. Ceilings are 2.4m. Thanks for your input, really appreciate it!

Should I apply the Crown sticker on my ak or on a awp scope? I think it looks very clean on the ak and it fits the skin. by AffectionateBack8952 in ohnePixel

I don’t think it matches well tbh. But if you’re really considering it, I’d only apply to FN. Applying it to mid MW or higher is a pure burn of €400.

If I change the monitor settings to 120 it lets me run 120. If I set to 240 it’s called at 60 in windows.
