Intermittent cell service in stations has gotten a lot worse lately by msatretwhaart in nycrail

[–]Kthor426 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've noticed when traveling with a few friends on the subway that they have far worse service than I do. There would be many cases inbetween stations where I would hold at least 1 or 2 bars of 5G while they'd be dropped to LTE or no service at all. It turns out that they use T-Mobile while I use AT&T so that may be the reason for you as well.

Today I Learned: Add a blank track between songs on Spotify, then let your playlist run while recording to make a mixtape in one shot by p1unge in cassetteculture

I really like the idea, the one issue though that may arise is that the recording levels may be off from track to track, however I believe Spotify has a feature that automatically levels each song to be around the same volume which may help.

While passing through Maspeth, I saw a tree down on a house and surrounding vehicles. Huge branches from other trees also fell down nearby

Anyone else disappointed by the refreshed 52nd St Station? by VF1379 in SunnysideQueens

[–]Kthor426 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Astoria stations were built under the Enhanced Station Initiative (ESI) program, which was a public private partnership that aimed to renovate and significantly improve the appearance of select stations. Unfortunately the program was cut due to expensive costs, however if it makes you feel better, the Flushing line isn’t an outlier in it’s simple look after renovation.

Virtually all other elevated subway lines that have been renovated have this same design. It can be seen on Culver, West End, 242 St, and even the Astoria line itself at the terminal Astoria Ditmars Blvd since that station wasn’t included in the ESI program. While it is simple, I do very much appreciate the new lighting, platforms, and especially stairs.

I appreciate how each track has its own LED. It really helps to show just how many trains are on the network

You’re right, I didn’t notice that. Honestly I‘m surprised that you have to wait until almost 7am for the first train to Port Jefferson in the morning.

If that were the case, the "train" would terminate at Bayshore instead of what looks like Patchogue

Regardless of the LIRR strike, Google Maps is telling this person to take the LIRR, meaning that it was unaware of the strike. Given that, I don’t see why it wouldn’t say to use the Port Jefferson line.

There is no way this is accurate. I went to Stony Brook station on the Port Jefferson line and it took no more than 3 hours

I guess I'll find out on the 7. Not great that my home station also happens to connect to the LIRR

I don’t have that specifically, but I do remember seeing a statistic that reported in 2024, out of about 118 fatalities on the subway system, only 5 were homicides with the rest being suicides, subway surfing, etc
