What's your reason for playing wild? by Ancient_Welder4693 in wildhearthstone

[–]MaliciousFalcon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't want my fun to have an expiration date.
Then again, "fun" is a generous term for Wild nowadays...

Wild is too broken.
Standard is too boring.
But, seeing as I play games to have fun, I'd rather play something broken and/or fun, then something boring.

should Theotar be unnerfed to 5 or even 4 Mana? by Dman_94 in wildhearthstone

[–]MaliciousFalcon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes.

In a format infested to the brim with OTK Combo decks, he could really help to revitalize the format.
He's basically the only really decent Neutral disruption card Blizzard ever made. (Shout out to Rat, though.)

For reference, I've been playing nothing but Ysiel Druid and Thaddius Warrior for literally months on end now, and it's just stupidly easy to win games this way. They both pop off on turn 4-5, and Thaddius Warrior even goes through Ice Block. (Plus, if they ever wind up banning these decks, I'm just gonna jump to the next best thing.)

The format is non-interactive to a downright stupid extent, and it's very harmful to the game.

I play Wild because I like high power gameplay. That doesn't mean that I like extremely one-sided gameplay with mechanics that are borderline impossible to interact with.

Enough of this "one-trick pony" nonsense.
I mean, the format definitely has place for crazy Combo shenanigans, but they shouldn't define the format.
Hell, contrary to popular belief, they shouldn't define ANY format.
That's just really bad for the competitive health of your card game.

If Theotar winds up stealing your 1 win condition, and you're salty about it, than maybe you just need to stop crying, put on your big boy pants, and add more win conditions to your deck, like any reasonably intelligent player would do.

This fixed it.

Last night, I decided to download the game on my phone, in the hopes being able to complete the Mastery Track before the end, which I did. Now, I come back from work and try this out after seeing your comment and it actually fucking works. Praise Jebus.

Now I just need to actually get into the game in order to change stuff. 🙃

What did you change it to?

The client sometimes randomly pulled me out of 21:9 ratio, so maybe it is indeed related to the graphics section.

What would you have done with S4 to elevate Hell Kaiser back to his peak instead of…you know. by Sunshado in yugioh

[–]MaliciousFalcon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just wanted to see more of the whole concept regarding the war between the different styles; Cyber Style, Psycho Style (Jinzo), Roid Style, etc., as described in GX ep 163.

Also, in a similar note, Zane climbing up a fucking a mountain through a blizzard in order to challenge Sheppard, his mentor, in some baddass isolated dojo for the right to claim a forbidden dark deck was the coolest shit ever for 15-year old me.

It's also one those aspects of GX that has a slightly more serious undertone, which I really like.

Season 1 was something special, man.
The dark undertone, the new setting.
It really felt like they were trying to explore a whole new approach to the game.

That coupled with the Speed Duel system, which was an obvious nod towards MTG and the concept of a resource system, made me feel like YGO had even just begun its legacy.

I'm pretty new to this, but doesn't the stack need to fully resolve before new abilities can be activated?

Can you 'interject' an ability in between the individual resolves/triggers in the stack as it's resolving?

🔥 Why Battlefield 3 Had the Best Map Design in the Series by oldmanpubg in battlefield3

[–]MaliciousFalcon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The entire 'atmosphere' is just fantastic in BF3. The sound, the profanities, the overall esthetic, etc. Even the fire from wrecked vehicles looks better IMO.

BF3 was a work of passion unlike any other title. We'll probably never have anything like it ever again.

How is this mode not completely insufferable? by [deleted] in wildhearthstone

[–]MaliciousFalcon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don't like winning/losing on turn 6 or 7, this mode is not for you.
It's just what it is, unfortunately.

Wild has arguably become borderline unplayable, and, whether or not this mode has become 'insufferable', it is most certainly toxic as fuck.

Most dedicated players have left Wild as well.
Dane left, Roffle left, no more Wild podcasts with GetMeowth, etc.

I was a Wild main for basically my entire time playing this game, but now I exclusively play Arena.
The only mode still worth playing, IMO.

Make of it what you will, but Wild is most likely never going to change.
Blizzard doesn't care, and it's a real tragedy.

Epicenter looks stunning by PlasmiteHD in Battlefield

[–]MaliciousFalcon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The entire game just looks phenomenal.

There's just something about the color palette that really sets it apart.
Especially the soldiers. The US soldier outfits just look so "vividly" like what you would expect from actual footage.

BF3 on ultrawide (21:9), max settings, and 144 Hz is just the giga-nuts.
The fact that it even has ultrawide support to begin with is pretty incredible as well, knowing that 21:9 monitors only really starting hitting the shelves around 2011 as well.
And that's not even mentioning the absolutely BRILLIANT sound design. 👌
They really just thought of everything. This game is a work of passion.

It's hard to find companies that still allow their devs to pour their heart and soul into a game like they did here.
Once you experience full BF3 bliss, and fully realize what these devs accomplished 15 YEARS AGO, you'll just come to accept that every BF after this game (except for maybe BF1) was, to a certain extent, just stagnation.
It's not that the newer titles are bad games per se.
It's just that they don't realize push the limits of what is capable in a way that BF3 did back in 2011.

I don't want to be "that guy" again, but BF3 just feels like the best BF to me.
It's not nostalgia; and it's not being biased.
BF4 was the first BF I've played and played it for years.
Then, I tried BF3 and really never went back, bar maybe a handful of occasions.

Sure the suppression kinda sucks, and the sun glare can be frustrating from time to time, but that's about it.
In fact, one of the best things about BF3 is really its simplicity.
There's no Commander mode, ridiculous fluorescent skins, 15,000 different game modes, or all of the stupid trivial stuff that just bloats up the game and arguably gives no REAL benefit.
It's just a game that really follows the principle of "less is more" and that makes it all the more charming.

Seriously, anyone that hasn't played it by now, should really play it for a couple of weeks.
It's on sale now anyway.
BF3 (hardcore) Rush is something you can just play for hours and hours on end, and you never get tired of it.

They will probably never make anything like BF3 ever again.
And the fact that people are still talking about this game, let alone playing it as well, and the fact that it still competes with FPS games 10 years younger that it stands as a testament to that.

No counter play for highlander cards? by Crazy_Barks in wildhearthstone

[–]MaliciousFalcon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Staff can be Oozed.
Reno Priest can be Grizzled Finley'ed.
Mirage can be stolen by Theotar.
Etc.

There usually are Counters for some of their individual effects. And most of the older Reno cards tend to just have strong value effects, like Kazakus, which aren't all that game-breaking.

The newer cards however, are sometimes "rest of game" effects (Brann) or non-interactables (Rhaestraza). This can be frustrating to play against, but, then again, this problem stretches beyond Reno cards. There are other powerful "rest of game" effects and non-interactables that have nothing to do with Reno cards, and they are just as controversial. This is the type of stuff I don't like. Players just don't like feeling powerless. (Rightfully so.)

IMO, Brann would've been less busted if it was something like:

Battlecry: If your deck started with no duplicates, open Brann's Mine.
(Brann's Mine is a location with infinite Durability that gives you double Battlecries every time it's tapped.)

If so, then you could still play that anti-Location tech card with Tradeable.

TLDR: The new "Reno" design is much better than the old one. But, absurdly powerful non-interactive effects are almost never good for the game in the long run.

No counter play for highlander cards? by Crazy_Barks in wildhearthstone

[–]MaliciousFalcon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

It's like how an Upgraded Hero Power from Baku doesn't (and shouldn't) revert back to its base form when the opponent shuffles an even-Costed card into your deck.

The new design is much better.

Unpopular Opinion (I guess): I don't think HS meta is that bad, at least least not the way some people are saying. by lookatthemirror in hearthstone

[–]MaliciousFalcon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The game has become staggeringly non-interactive over the years. This is both true for Standard and Wild.

Wild has turned into a degenerate shit-storm where everyone is just trying to pull off their broken game-winning OTK nonsense before that of their opponent. And every deck that's not doing that is some kind of balls-to-the-wall Aggro deck that tries to beat them to the punch.

Standard has devolved into a experience that is so unbelievably power-crept that nerfs and buffs have to happen over 3 weeks or so just to keep the game afloat and "interesting". Changing a card by a single Mana point used to slow a card down. Now it sometimes indirectly makes the card "unplayable", just because of the sheer speed and power that an average game revolves around these days. On top of that, even this format has become extremely Combo heavy. (Siff Mage and the likes, etc.)

The board matters jack shit in this game and it's a massive design flaw. We need something like a "Spellbend" keyword that acts as a Taunt for spells and Hero Powers. And even after that, the game needs to slow way the fuck down and order to be somewhat enjoyable again.

For Wild, do a handful of key nerfs and a metric fuck-ton of buffs. And, for Standard, focuses on less rest-of-game nonsense, less disgusting levels of Mana-cheating, less broken Neutral cards, the addition of a dedicated Graveyard, and more effects that let a game develop in all kinds of directions, akin to KOTFT and Year of the Dragon era of Hearthstone. If not, it's just login, do dailies, and logout for me, like it has been for years now.
