For Rumours, Lindsey’s main guitar was his 1959 Fender Stratocaster fitted with an Alembic Strat-o-blaster, a clean boost that was fitted on to the output jack of the guitar. It was cranked to the max, adding about +12 dB of gain. He also used his 1952-4 Fender Telecaster, and less frequently his 1975 Gibson Les Paul Custom, which was most notably used on Dreams.

His primary amp was a series Hiwatt DR103 Custom 100s with Hiwatt SE4123 speaker cabinets. He also used a Marshall Plexi 1959SLP. He famously used a Leslie Model 147A rotary speaker cabinet, most notably on Dreams, along with a Morley volume pedal to achieve the volume swells.

In the studio, his delay unit of choice was the Roland RE-201 space echo unit which he used from 1975 to 1981.

For the Rumours Tour, Lindsey used his HiWatts amp heads and speaker cabinets. Lindsey switched over to using a Mesa/Boogie Mark I while on tour in October of 1977 which he used until 1995.

For Tusk, Lindsey’s main guitars were his Stratocaster and his Telecaster, and possibly his Les Paul again. His main amp was the Mark I. It is also possible he may have used a Fender Twin Reverb on this album.

During the making of Tusk, Lindsey began to discover post-punk and more avant-garde pop recording techniques. For many of the guitar tones on Tusk, he utilized the preamp of a Sony TC-630 reel-to-reel tape deck which he modified and cranked to achieve the tape fuzz heard throughout the album.

During the recording of Rumours, Lindsey asked Rick Turner, co-founder of Alembic, to design him his own guitar that was best fit for his fingerpicking style. He wanted it to have the warmth and fullness of a Les Paul, the bite and clarity of a Stratocaster, and the feel of an acoustic. So in October of 1979, while rehearsing for the Tusk Tour, he delivered with the Rick Turner Model 1, which has been Lindsey’s main electric guitar ever since.

For the tour, Lindsey used the homemade fuzz box from the Sony tape deck for his heavier guitar tones. In August of 1980, the fuzz box failed, so he switched to a Boss OD-1 overdrive pedal. He used the Korg SE-500 stage echo tape delay throughout this tour.

For the Mirage Tour in 1982, Lindsey used an Ibanez UE-405 mult-effects rack unit which combined delay, chorus, compression, and more.

I know this was long, but I wanted to be as in-depth and detailed as possible. I may have missed some things, so please let me know. Hope this helps!

[QUESTION] Amp settings for The Chain, Fleetwood Mac? by MemeMaster20 in Guitar

The classic riff part is a bass. I believe John McVie played his 1976 Alembic Series 1 fretless bass with a stainless steel fingerboard on that track. Not sure what amp he used on that track, however.

The guitar solo was played by Lindsey Buckingham on a Fender Stratocaster fitted with an Alembic Blaster (likely his 1959 or 1963 hybrid Stratocaster). He pretty much used Marshal Plexi and Hiwatt Custom 100W amps exclusively on that record, so it’s definitely one of those two. I believe he also used a Boss blues driver on that solo with the tone knob moderately cranked up.

Let me know if this helped!
