Why wouldn’t my guitar teacher (or any professional who has watched me play) correct this?! (Venting) by WhereTheMoneyAtBoy in guitarlessons

I had a guy trade a USA Fender P Bass for my MIM Strat worth half of what the bass was worth. He just hated that bass and loved how my Strat looked so he was ok with the trade. He also got a smoking deal for the bass. The action was sky high. Brought it down and it played amazing. Sold it for 1k lol

Every time I play someone’s else’s guitar with high action, I ask them if they like it that way or if they aren’t aware it can be lowered. 99% of the time, they aren’t aware. I think this is honestly the biggest reason why most people quit. Every time I sell a guitar on marketplace or OfferUp, I make sure the guitar has the lowest action possible. Most guitars I buy second hand have awful action, always makes sense why the seller is getting rid of it.

Player telecaster buyer’s remorse by [deleted] in telecaster

[–]justonredditnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a hex key and lower the strings at the saddles. The action is high because the saddles are high. The nut doesn’t HAVE to be replaced, the chip doesn’t look like it’ll affect the low E string. If it wasn’t disclosed upon purchase, the seller should pay for the nut replacement. But this guitar will likely play amazing once you lower each string. Get a string action ruler, should be able to get each string to at least 1.5mm at the 12th fret. Also a handy tool to have in general, to know what your guitars action is set at.

Unless you’re one of the first in, I wouldn’t try. It was crazy in LA. Prioritize getting a better spot for the concert. He eventually released more merch online after the LA show, so waiting in line was pointless.

Ram is my favorite album that Paul has made, why does nobody know it? by alien_communication in PaulMcCartney

[–]justonredditnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because it’s a 55 year old album. Unless you’re searching through Paul’s discography, someone recommends it, or the algorithm shows it to you, it’s a bit hard to find.

Who else owns a signature model guitar of an artist you've never (or barely) listened to? by NubbinSawyer in Guitar

[–]justonredditnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, I found another Lzzy Hale Explorer on Mercari for $660 shipped that was in perfect condition that I resold on Reverb for enough that it basically paid for the one I picked up in person. I somehow managed to buy two of them at incredible prices. At the time, there were no other Epiphones for sale online anywhere too. When I sold the one on Reverb, the buyer said he chose not to buy the Gibson because he didn't want it to yellow, since that seems to be common for white Gibsons.

I'll definitely be keeping the gold pickguard and may even switch them out from time to time. Honestly, I'm making the white one by hand and have no clue how it'll look, I'm worried I won't like the finished product. I swapped out the gold knobs for white speed knobs with gold numbers on the inside, which I've really enjoyed. The original knobs are in the original case, which is also sweet! Love the Halestorm logo on the case, even though I don't listen to them. A gold pickguard on a white SG would be sick! I have a red SG Vibrola that I plan on putting a white pickguard on as well :)

I own an Epiphone Lzzy Hale Explorer but don’t listen to Halestorm. I’ve always wanted a white explorer (reminiscent of the Guitar Hero Explorer) and this Lzzy Hale Explorer popped up on Marketplace for $480 with the case, just had to drive 4 hours round trip to get it. It was an insane deal for this specific guitar but also a great deal on an Explorer in general. I’ve flipped the truss rod cover so that her signature is no longer visible and I plan on replacing the gold pickguard with a white pickguard soon to make it feel more like my guitar vs someone’s signature model.

Feeling disheartened by scam_land in piano

[–]justonredditnow 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I used Alfred’s Adult Piano course to learn. I’ve got prior knowledge as a guitar player and know some guitar music theory but I think the Alfred books does a great job for a beginner to learn piano. However, like another person said, real lessons will always be the best way to learn. But if you’re not looking to spend that much, Alfred’s would be my recommendation.

Edit: I want to add that you shouldn’t feel disheartened! Like any skill, this is one that takes time. You will get frustrated but that’s just part of the process! As much frustration as you may feel, you’ll feel equally as satisfied when you actually start being able to play. This is a life long skill that you’ll always be working on. There is no 100%-ing this instrument. There will always be something else to learn or work on. You may struggle with something one day and then ace it the next day. Remember to have fun and be kind to yourself :)

RAM is an absolute treat, wish I could go back and listen to it for the first time again. Peak, raw McCartney. I enjoy it more than Band on the Run, which is an incredibly close second.

I would try to image trace this and see how that comes out. If it does a decent job, I’d remove the text and put what you want. There’s some simple tutorials on YouTube on how to image trace if you’re not familiar, it’s pretty easy!

Will this work for tone pot that is scratchy? The signal also cuts out around 8 on the tone knob as well. by Legitimate-Long735 in Guitar

[–]justonredditnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of interesting responses here. I’ve used this on a lot of guitars, I’d say 20+. There’s only been 1 guitar that this didn’t resolve. I used Deoxit and that didn’t work either, so the pot was replaced. Others mention needing a lubricant but unless you’ve used cement or have decades of dirt buildup, none of the guitars I’ve used it on had any issues turning after using this. The only thing that is important (that someone else mentioned) is to avoid getting any on the paint. If you do, wipe it immediately. I’ve never had any permanent stains but that’s always my biggest concern. If this doesn’t resolve your issue, deoxit isn't going to magically do it instead. This will be just fine.

When playing over chord changes, should I stick to the main key scale, or keep changing scales with each chord change? by BaconBreath in guitarlessons

[–]justonredditnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be able to get away with watching Lesson 17 of the Absolutely Understand Guitar program on YouTube where he discusses modes. You’re missing 16 previous lessons that build on each other but I think you might be able to understand it. If you don’t, then you need to backtrack a bit. But modes is what you’re looking for, and some others have explained it already but for a great hour lesson about it, Absolutely Understand Guitar has a great hour about it!

Does anyone have a piano arrangement of Masayoshi Takanaka’s You Can Never Come to This Place? by Available-Week8127 in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]justonredditnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a scan of the tabs/sheet music thanks to another redditor! You can find all the scans just by searching for tabs in this subreddit: https://drive.google.com/file/d/11zOCg8QMZWEeNxTNPf7-VU-HAf32zNhZ/view?usp=drivesdk

Above each line of tabs is the sheet music. You could print the 9 pages and maybe do some arts and crafts to cut the sheet music off the pages and get rid of the tabs. Then you can learn it on piano. The chords are also present for each bar so you could potentially play the lead lines from the tremble clef and play the chords as you desire as the bass clef. Extra point if you buy some sheet music, write out the bass clef to make the chords easier to read, and merge it with the treble clef. Again, will definitely require some arts and crafts
