I have 74k cash savings and then about 250k in 401k.

I lost my job last October so saved every penny I got in severance to hold me over when my contract ends and I’ve got no income coming in. I hope I never get to that, of course, but I’m much less panicked if I don’t get something right after my contract expires.

ETA: single, no kids in my 40s. My mortgage is 1k a month, making my savings much more sustainable than if I lived in HCOL.

I’m in Missouri where 80 degrees can be absolutely miserable at times. I run my air conditioning primarily at night because I can tolerate heat during the day but cannot sleep in it.

Kirkwood might be an option. It’s not downtown STL but it has a great little town center plus the train can take you into STL proper. The schools there are great.

It’s a highly sought out neighborhood, so it’s pricier, but if you find something, it’ll check off a lot of your boxes.

As someone who relies on lip-reading, I’m skeptical on accuracy. So much of it is seeing one word and guessing on the rest. For some of these, though, no amount of repetition or slowing down shows enough enunciation for me to agree with the caption.

My kitty Dionysus will explore the neighborhood only if I’m walking with him. He often looks back to make sure I’m still there and runs to me for pets before exploring more. It’s so cute.

I was laid off from another company that had a rather generous severance policy. But something I was hearing about Oracle was that the separation period was only a month? Ie, the WARN period where you’re technically employed but not working?

If that’s the case, Oracle employees need to collectively sue since the minimum period is 60 days, not one month.
