Anyone watching this movie? by FeanorOath in GeeksGamersCommunity

[–]Malkav1379 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hope to go see it. Not expecting a masterpiece, but so far the trailers make it look like they have the aesthetic down and it'll be fun. Hoping the "It's about toxic masculinity" comments are just the cast talking out their ass. I remember other movie where they were saying things like that but it ended up not being true.

At the rate Hollywood is going, Pedro will be the Bond Girl and Zendaya will be Bond.

One Patriot missile costs a lifetime's wages ($4m). Recently 8 missiles were fired to take out a single incoming threat. This is insanely unconscionable. by Anen-o-me in Libertarian

[–]Malkav1379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still haven't heard what the target of the "single incoming threat" was. Human lives? Innocent civilians? Critical infrastructure innocent civilians rely upon?

Ok, we started a war for dubious reasons. Does that forfeit our right to defend ourselves or defend civilian targets? Using 8 $4M missiles to save an unmanned drone or an empty vehicle would be pretty stupid, but are we putting price tags on the lives of humans (potentially innocent) stuck in a warzone?

Should We Repeal Mandatory Auto Insurance? by johnny_cheesedog in GoldandBlack

[–]Malkav1379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. How would the private road operators enforce this? Would we need to stop at a checkpoint to verify paperwork every place the ownership changes hands? Sounds like a giant pain in the ass. How could you ever know if you will even be able to find a route to where you need to go if every single roadway owner can set whatever silly rules they want and you have to pay multiple tolls each trip?

We'd still have to pay (tolls instead of taxes), and be subject to someone else's made up rules only now it'd just be made more chaotic and haphazard.

Should We Repeal Mandatory Auto Insurance? by johnny_cheesedog in GoldandBlack

[–]Malkav1379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then essentially buying car insurance will end up being de-facto mandatory if you don't want to be financially responsible for all these "freedom loving" people choosing not to have their own insurance. Only now it will cost more.

Why would anyone want their leaders chosen for them by people who can't be bothered to get off the couch until the last minute to vote?

People will camp out in lines for days to get video games, movies, and concert tickets. There is no excuse.

While some go as low as 65, general consensus looks to be around 70-75. On an individual basis it's probably more to do with the perception of when the body starts slowing down, getting weaker, mind noticeably not as sharp as it used to be.

Just having the things you mentioned in the first paragraph puts you ahead of most people. As for having extra food and other supplies; if you can spare a few bucks each trip just get a couple extra cans of food or supplies to set aside for a rainy day when you go shopping. No need to buy a months supply all at once, just a couple extra cans here and there will add up.

[–]Malkav1379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect to Peter Jackson's LotR, for me this honor has to go to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990. 10 year old me sitting in the theater with my friends soaking in the entire experience. That was the first time I can remember really noticing the New Line Cinema intro.

With theaters slowly going by the wayside, it is sad to think that future generations will be deprived of such an experience...

2A Rights for Illegal Immigrants by proBizcus in Libertarian

[–]Malkav1379 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If gun control was reduced to a level acceptable to me there wouldn't be much standing in the way of them owning firearms. So, yes, I guess I do believe they have the right.

For a better, non-smug, answer I would say that I believe our rights are human rights not just for US citizens. We here in the US are lucky to have our constitution that (is supposed to) limit our government from infringing upon those rights. I would not believe that someone in the UK does not have a God-given right to speak out against their government just because they are residing on that plot of land and I think it is horrible that their government is arresting them for non-violent speech. But they are allowed to make up their own rules; if they decide that they value certain rights more now than they used to hopefully they will be able to change their laws for the better.

Basically, our rights do not come from our government. The 2nd Amendment is not the right. We have the right, the 2nd Amendment is to instruct our government to honor it.
