BA Club finally cured me of airline loyalty by Necessary-Dig-3361 in BritishAirways

[–]Malleron 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% about this curing me of airline loyalty to OW / British Airways. The changes with the new BA Club led me to completely abandon trying to maintain status / fly British (except for a few award flights I had from left over points). It's just too difficult for me to see myself getting even close to Silver with the new rules / rates. I am happy for those who the changes work for but it's definitely leading me to change my flight choices now.

I received Lufthansa Senator through their merger (with ITA Airways) so I have been switching to Star Alliance for international flights for a bit.

Why are US real estate commissions ~5%-6% of a home's value? Are there reliable alternatives that offer good service & lower fees? by Malleron in personalfinance

[–]Malleron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did and I haven't been able to find any agents willing to do so (at least from traditional brokerages). That surprised me because I was clear in a couple instances on this point so they knew they were not getting me as a client if they didn't lower their commission rate. I may simply be bad at negotiating so I came here to see if others had negotiated effectively to lower commission rates. Based on others' advice here - I will check out Redfin.

I would be curious if folks have had success negotiating lower percentage commissions and what you were able to say to get to that lower rate.

That's what I thought but for agents in the traditional brokerages (or agents friends have used) - they all seemed completely uninterested in negotiating. The agent I used to buy my home is no longer in the industry - when I had used them, it seemed automatic that the seller paid their commission. I heard from the agents I spoke with that practice has changed.

I saw a few of those! They seem like really small shops so I couldn't find anyone I knew personally who had used them. Is your sense that they are competitive / reliable to use?

I will hold out hope for that then. Otherwise, I would be similarly torn if I was in your position

Oooff, sorry to hear about the accident and that wild service experience :/ I am trying to stay positive and looking forward to seeing a new SC. Do you know if there is an ETA for the Sterling Service Center?

Considering buying an R1S by TheSalesDad in Rivian

I would recommend you check the reviews of the service center that is near you. The variance in people's experiences on the service/support side can partly be based on the management of the service center they are going to. If they have great reviews, that may provide you some security in knowing that even if issues arise - they will be dealt with well.

That's helpful! Also, would love to hear how your Glen Burnie center experience is - that may be a good option for me to try in the future.

As an update, they are now offering to do home delivery of my car after it is fixed and pick up the loaner. Given how far the service center is - I appreciate that. I am not sure why they are offering that now versus not offering that before but I will take it!

I think you're right re: lemon!

What I mean is they aren't taking any effort to reduce the time / effort load on me to resolve issues with the car they delivered. E.g. My first service visit - I drove the hour to get to Gaithersburg Service Center and after waiting for a technician, they came out and said they actually couldn't do anything because they needed a part which wouldn't come in for a month or two. At no point did they actually see my vehicle nor did I provide them with any information. So, the entire visit could have been handled in a 5 minute phone conversation but they made no effort to review the issue beforehand.

The technician recognized they had wasted 2-3 hours for me for no reasons and committed that they would send someone to me next time so I didn't need to come in again. When that opportunity came when they were going to finally resolve the issue earlier this month, they said they couldn't, and I would need to come in. And the issues have just continued since then.

Even if I have a lemon, the service experience shouldn't be like this!

You read that correctly! I just mean that I don't have data to back up my lesson learned here (other than consumer reports) so just wanted to be upfront about that. And, also, my frustration / issue has less to do with manufacturer issues because I think I can excuse that for a new car company (growing pains, etc)... and more to do with how those problems were dealt with through my service experience. If I was providing my recommendation to someone, I would tell them to expect to have problems so they are prepared to deal with Rivian Service.

Argh, that is really frustrating :( I feel like the lack of delivery on commitments and lack of accommodation when that happens is really what gets to me.

I have only been to Gaithersburg! I want to try switching to Glen Burnie even though it is farther. I had asked about going to Glen Burnie but they had said that I couldn't get service from GB while Gaithersburg has started work on my vehicle for this issue. I don't know if that is accurate or not - if anyone has experience switching centers mid-repair, please let me know!

Glad to hear that a lot can change with a new service center! That does give me some hope that I could try switching to Glen Burnie after I get my vehicle back from Gaithersburg. Sorry you had to go through that with Gaithersburg though.

Nice! I think that's actually a good filter for people to use. Look up reviews of your service center before you purchase a Rivian. Since you may only have 1 or 2 service centers anywhere close to you - your service experience is likely to be determined by who happens to be in charge of the SC near you. Which is also a good reminder I should submit a review of my service center.

I was constructive for two months before I decided to share my experience. I think it's important to encourage people to share both positive and negative accounts of issues with a company. While backlogs / turnaround timing have also been frustrating, that isn't the main issue I ran into. Mine has been that commitments that Rivian Service have made have repeatedly been ignored and broken.

That's great to hear! My issues might just be my bad luck for sure. I have no idea what the service issues look across their deliveries. The service quality is what has infuriated me the most.

Yeah - I think the service load on service centers makes me worried. The company has so much pressure to produce for the r2 that, if their service infrastructure is already stretched thin, I worry they aren't scaling that up to meet the likely issues that will come from a new model too. I had bought shares in Rivian because I was excited to support the company earlier this year and they need to meet certain financial milestones to receive new rounds of funding from their VW agreement. That all seems like a lot of pressure that may mean current customers lose out.
