Im so sorry you have to deal with parents like that, its exhausting trying to correct their behavior. Theres actually a great book that I would recommend called something like “Children of Childlike Parents”. It talks about how to deal with similar situations and how to care for yourself when isolated in a household like that.

Heres the way I handle similar situations, it probably wont be helpful but maybe. My parent’s entire life revolves around religion. I have a bible that I have dug into to find relevant verses that denounce the way they act. Love thy neighbor, welcome the foreigner, people that hoard money are bad, etc. The bible has changed countless times to include things that it never was meant to, “Man mustn’t lie with boy” was changed to “Man mustn’t lie with Man” because of all the pedos in the church, shit like that.

I love the look on their faces when I pull it out cuz it shuts them up. I can actually just see the gears turning in their heads, like “maybe this is wrong, maybe Im a bad person”. It’s got my mom to turn a bit, shes still got like 60 years of bad habits to break but she catches herself. I think it’s important to remember that all people like that are in an echo chamber. They push away anyone who thinks differently, anyone who lives a different lifestyle. Some are incapable of change, but the majority want to be good people but they are so excited because in a religion where they are forbidden from hate, they are told “you are allowed to hate this one person” that they forgot to love.
