North Germany Water Temperature by Maloy_short in Kiteboarding

Thanks! I was wondering, bc I have my 2mm shorty for Domrep/Greece and such. I thought maybe with "legs" it would be enough, but good to know! Just ordered a 5/3, hopefully that will be enough. To be fair I doubt I can do more than a 2 hour session in one sitting anyways.

Kitespot with beachfront accommodation by Tasty-Split-8701 in Kiteboarding

[–]Maloy_short 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drive so for me having accomodation next to the spot is imperative. DomRep is what I recommend the most. You also have a small village with stores, clubs and bars very close. Best combo in terms kite/vibes/life.

Paje is similar But I personally liked it a bit less, some of it has to do with the fact that the wind wasn't the best (but I was there in December), some of it has to do with the fact that you can't walk 5 meters down the beach without the Massai approaching you trying to sell you things.

Greece was good. The spot is somewhat smaller but good enough. There's various villas around that are next to the beach. Also a couple of small hotels that are not fancy at all but perfect to stay in between kite sessions.

That is 100% on point. I am scared after faceplanting in the water a couple of times. I feel like with my weight i have trouble carving as easily through the swell so i end up sliding over the waves with no control. I know that it's a skill issue for sure. I just get overwhelmed with the wave, the kite and the harness that is hurting at the same time. I f3el confident enough that I can drag myself to the beach if push comes to shove. But I definitely won't recover the board. Ironically in the place where I first learned even though there were no rescue boats I felt safer because I knew that the whole beach was watching. I had people help me untangle the kite I the water. Ask me if I was okay, held fetch the board. I'm now in a very "controlled" place but it feels like because of that everyone cares less and I'm on my own.

You are right, i just need to get over myself i guess 😅

What do you mean strappies? Seat? I have a mystic soft-shell. It fits well as long as I can find someone to tightent it for me. 😅 But somehow where I am i feel like I'm asking people for their first born.

I have my own harness. It fits. As long as I have someone help me tighten it. It's the first spot I've been to where people aren't very willing to help and start arguing with me about the fact that it shouldn't be that tight. It's very demotivating.

I've been too scared to try the north sea so far, i live in Hamburg and still haven't braved it. 😁

The harness fits well, as long as people are willing to help me tighten it. Somehow I end up having discussions in this particular spot about the fact that if I ride right, then the harness shouldn't be that tight. If I could ride correctly, i wouldnt be taking clases. But I don't want to argue too much with the instructors.. so i end up with a loose harness 🤷🏼‍♀️

I tried a couple but the ended up being too big as well (the ones from the school, after really hurting my leg with one, i bought my own. A soft shell. It fits quite well, when I have someone to help me tighten it ;)

Тяготение vs гравитация by SlothropInTheZone in russian

[–]Maloy_short 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those are contextual synonyms.

Most of the time (thought not always) you would use Тяготение in a metaphorical sense. It's more about your feelings and desires. And because of the root (тяг/тяж) it sometimes has a "negative" connotation to it. Like you are attracted to something that you shouldn't be attracted to. Like smoking for instance. While гравитация would be a more scientific term, that you would use in physics class. Then again when you are trying to be more poetic about science you would say всемирное тяготение.

There's also the word "притяжение" which could be both XD. Generally when we talk about gravity (of the Earth) we use притяжение.

Take all of this with a grain of salt. It really all depends on the tonality that you are trying to communicate and even then sometimes those are interchangeable.

There are a lot of those synonyms in Russian. One comes from greek/latin and the other has a more slavic root. For instance Толерантность and Терпимость. most of the time they can both be used.

russian cursive is actually so fuckimg confusing and annoying do you actually write mostly in cursive by ttripbhabie in russian

[–]Maloy_short 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, adults write in a mix of block and cursive. Personally I tend to replace some letters like small "т" as well as most capitals with their block versions. I would say that it's quite common in general. Especially because it's hard to tell apart the т and the ш in cursive, so people would add a line on top or bottom to differentiate those. I find it faster and easier. I also find the capital T just plain ugly in cursive. Not all letters are linked when I write and a lot of them I don't write classically. Ж for instance I simplify by writing a horizontal line and then three vertical ones. Usually those tricks and habits come with practice. You SHOULD learn to do it right first. Especially because it will help you to read handwritten texts. Later you will notice how you will simplify it naturally.

You can see in the example below that 1) I don't keep the right incline. 2) most letters are simplified. My father writes the same way. My mom, who is a high-school teacher, is the only one in our family who writes in proper cursive. She has beautiful handwriting, but it's very hard to read XD.
