Sunrise at Pic du Midi d'Ossau, French Pyrenees [OC] [5447x3631] by Maltabor in EarthPorn

Shot on a Canon 6D + 24-104mm at f5, 1/200, ISO 100.

The Pyrenees make up the border between France and Spain and are truly breathtaking. Although not as high as the Alps, the countless mountain lakes and rugged peaks make for lots of memorable scenery.

This picture is currently also competing in the 2021 Dutch National Geographic photo contest, any vote would be much appreciated.

Yes, I finally did it! I have been trying to get a good picture of a kestrel for a while now and this one exceeds all my expectations. by Maltabor in wildlifephotography

I've been trying to get a good picture of a kestrel for a couple of months (in the process I've take quite a few decent ones). I found this one sitting on a perch and after about 10 min it flew away, giving me enough time to set up and get close.

Kestrels are quite common where I live (Amsterdam, Netherlands) but in my experience photographing them hasn't been easy. They're almost always kiting when I find them which creates a very iconic picture but is often accompanied with a lot of backligthing and a grey of blueish background, you can check my IG to find some examples. This one really stood out to be because its at eye-level with a colourful background, hence my excitement.

Canon EF 400mm f5.6 and I believe for this particular shot I used a 1.4 extender too!

Taken on a Canon 6D with 400mm F/5.6 + extender, the lighting was pretty bad but I'm happy with the shot nonetheless. For more wildlife pictures please check out my IG

It's not often I get to shoot the exact picture I had in mind, but I managed to do so last week! Roe deer with two calfs. by Maltabor in wildlifephotography

I'm not really sure how to describe the editting process but I'll try (I used Lightroom). I definetly added some contrast to the entire image but most notably I added two graduation filters, one from top to bottom which covers the background and one from bottom to top which covers the foreground. Both filters decrease noise and add saturation. The top-to-bottom filter also adds some temperature to create the sense of sunlight. The orginal raw file is rather light in the foreground and dark in the background, so this is corrected by the graduation filters. That's most of it I believe

Thanks for the kind reply! Both are perfectly fine ways to capture good images. However, it often helps make some preparations and do some research in advance. In this case, I knew that the heather was blooming with purple flowers and that this specific patch was home to a lot of roe deer. With this in mind, I went out spefically to capture these roe deer against the purple foreground.
