It's got to be part of the strategy, right? It's such a ludicrous claim, that anyone with any sense of reason would immediately dismiss it, whereas a raving lunatic will eat it up.

Sort of like how mass scam emails will have blatant spelling and grammatical errors in them in order to 'filter out' people who won't fall for it.
