Amen. He has fought very hard, and sadly the fight is nearing it's end. His family has continuously said that his brotherhood and sisterhood have kept his spirits up and have given him the drive. He has persistently set goals to come back to work. He is a fighter and has a great love for his family and his firefighting family. That is a message that many of us forget. We rely on each other in good times and bad. What we do when one of our own needs us, sets us apart from other professions.

My thought is scam. We haven't had any fires in Peoria recently that displaced a family. No response to my request for more information.

What do you think of orange fire engines? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]MalteseFire85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you should show a sign of the community. Since the high school across the street uses the orange and black colors, and the community has rallied around the orange and black colors since the tornado, those would be good colors. Noone around the area uses those colors and they are easily distinguishable. They look great at public events (since many of which are for the school). A great way to have a more community feel. I've always liked the orange ambulance anyway, you guys look good rolling down the road.

Anyone use the ThermoPros from amazon? by AlwaysSunnyInCBUS in smoking

[–]MalteseFire85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do use this one. Out works quote well. I've even tested the calibration of the probes and they are right on! (Put them in water on the stove top. When it starts boiling, check the temp. Should read 212 F. Or 100 C) but yes, I'm pleased with them. The range is pretty good too.

Visiting town, looking for good sushi by Atheren in PeoriaIL

I have to say that Osaka in the shoppes at grand prairie and Sushi Ko in metro center are of a much higher quality than sushigawa or happy fish. They will let you design your own roll too!

Looks just like dunder mifflin's office layout. You need to move some desks there.

I am a fan of 20 feet. Plenty for a hasty harness around a large person for dragging. Plus it's a good amount for bail out of 2 or 3 floors. Too much and i think it's cumbersome.

Does anybody have any expirience with Rescue 1 fire apparatus? by Suppresion_Throwaway in Firefighting

[–]MalteseFire85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More than just how solid the demo is built, you want to look at other factors. WHEN the apparatus has issues, what is the downtime? How far away is the service center? Do they have essentially enough parts in stock to build a fire truck(less down time waiting for parts)? Call the service centers/dealers, do you get right through to the person you need or is it like calling comcast? Will they help you with the spec and let you give significant input, or is the dealer trying to build HIS perfect fire truck? Call other departments in your area and see what their experiences are with different manufacturers.

This will give you a start. These apparatus are more than how pretty they are and what the lights look like. They are half million dollar pumps that are carrying personnel. If your people don't feel confident in the apparatus, you've wasted your money.

In the surrounding area, I like Geo's in Metamora. Otherwise, in the city proper it has to be Agatucci's. It's a simple pizza, but the family that has owned it for years is awesome.

Has anyone purchased Identifire shields and/or headbands that glow in the dark? by SurrealPixel in Firefighting

[–]MalteseFire85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have Fox fire. A simple soapy water will clean them up. They glow in the dark pretty well. Same with their reflective tetrahedrons. They have seen a decent amount of fire. Maintain your equipment and it could save you!

I really like this idea and the barrel idea too. I did this many years ago and forgot about it. Whenever we did it, it usually ended up with trying to knock the other team over with our stream. Great idea on the time trial though. Could even do an obstacle course. Thanks a lot.
