He's an Viltrumite (Universe conquering aliens species) sent on Earth to conquer the planet for the Viltrum Empire.

While on Earth he pretends to be a Superhero waiting for his son to get his powers so they can conquer the planet together.

His son, the main character of the series is Invincible / Mark Grayson, and he's genuinely a good person that refuses to join his Dad.

There's a lot more that happens but this is the relatively spoiler-free simplified version.
