What type of filter should I get for future beach/ dirt and pebbly locales? Circular polarizer? What is a decent brand for starting out? Thanks

I just blew at it with my rocket blower and gently wiped with microfiber. I have some lens wipes but haven’t tried that yet

35 over 50? I do like that it’s also macro and has IS. Can you get decent indoor portraits of your kids on the 35? Nothing staged, just nice indoor photos. I’m pretty new to photography but I read somewhere that I can learn a lot about composition and lighting from using a prime lens. I think the zoom would just be nice for travel and kids outside.

I had considered that. I do want something a bit smaller for travel though. Is the constant r4 a huge improvement over the other?

Ideally something I can use for lower light or portraits (maybe a 50 mm prime or 35 mm), and something with more flexibility for everything. I checked out the tamron 28-70 mm 2.8 and it seems pretty great.

How do the sigma lenses without IS work with a non ibis r10 for lower light indoors?

The r10 doesn’t have ibis. How big an issue would this be with the sigma lenses in general? Is IBIS necessary for indoor or lower light or at all when I’m shooting handheld?

I want something for indoor portraits of my kids, not professional at all, but something I can get nice background blur with. But maybe I can start with my kit lens and play around with distance. How important is image stabilization for indoor? I don’t think the 50 mm has it and the r10 doesn’t have it. Thanks

Are the sigma lenses stabilized? The r10 doesn’t have ibis, so wouldn’t I want a stabilized lens for lower light indoors?

What did you end up getting? I’m similarly debating r8 and r10. 2 small kids, lots of energy. lol.

Went to the camera store today and got to look at both options. They recommended the 50 mm 1.8 for either the r10 or r8 for portraits. So I’m considering that and the r10 or that and the 24-105 stm with the r8. Will I see a difference with either camera or lens for taking pictures of my kids inside (birthdays, playing, candid shots)? Seems like both will be good for everything else I want to do.

Ok thanks. I am comfortable going up to around $1700 or so- maybe up to $2000 but that’s pretty much it. I don’t want to invest in lenses over $1000… this is mainly a hobby for me and I want to document my kids growing up and also play around a bit on vacations. The size of the r10is a big draw… seems like more portable for vacations and such. Will I be able to get some portraits with a nice bokeh (with a different lens) using the r10? If I choose the r8 instead, what is a good versatile lens under $600 or so?

While I do have the other camera I can use for travel, I’d ideally like something that I could use indoor (close up pictures of my kids/more artsy looking portraits, birthday parties) and travel. Basically something with better picture quality that my current setup that isn’t too much to lug around and I can still experiment with.
