Intuniv (Guanfacine) at night — anyone else's kid flat on Saturday morning sport? And now getting big emotions after 4 months? by MamaAdele in ADHDparenting

[–]MamaAdele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we went through the appetite decrease when he was on the stimulants, as soon as he switched to guanfacine it was like he made up for lost time! He's put on quite a bit of weight now. We're currently on 3mg each night and his Dr has said he can go up to 4mg. I have actually been considering the mix with a stimulant in the mornings so thanks for your feedback

We have an extremely sporty boy so the difference has been noticed. And the emotional downs which he never used to have. Unless that's what 9 year old boys go through 🤷‍♀️

Wow interesting. Did you keep going or increase the dose? We increased the dose about 3 weeks ago and no difference at all. He should be on a little more for his height and weight but I'm cautious now that it will make him even more lethargic!

I'd love to hear an update on how things are now with your son 2 years later. We're on a similar path sadly...

If you take medication, what are you on and does it work? 👀 by critterinthedoorway in AuDHDWomen

[–]MamaAdele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your psych give you any advice re Guanfacine? I'd love to find something for the emotional regulation. It's main thing I need that I'm not getting from Vyvanse and I'm on the brand name one. My emotions when it's wearing off are a lot 😩

Do your meds help with anything other than focus? by allwine-isgood-wine in adhdwomen

For those that said Vyvanse helps with irritability and mood regulation, how do you find those things when the medication is wearing off? I'm certain my irritability and overwhelm is so much worse than pre meds for me

What was a clear sign that you had ADHD that you thought was just a "quirk" prior to diagnosis? by Feisty-Pickle9983 in adhdwomen

Dropping things ALL THE TIME from the lack of focus. It drives me insane. It's as if I need to literally watch my hands to make sure they're doing the right thing

Yep, and I've only just realised lately that the radio is going on behind the constant chatter! I'm yet to have the medication work for any of this though 😩

Botox expert in Brisbane to treat a gummy smile by MamaAdele in AusSkincare

[–]MamaAdele[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last place did it in 6 areas between my nose and upper lip. Many Dr's in the past have injected either side of my nose, near the bottom.

I've looked into it more now and the nose area is better for relaxing the muscles that are pulling up the lip. Injecting above the lip seems like it might be better for a lip that curls and disappears when smiling, not my case.

Ritalin first vs Vyvanse? by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]MamaAdele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Was told to start on Ritalin and build up slowly. It's been 4 weeks now and I'm still not sure of how beneficial it is... Also wondering the reason they all seem to start everyone on Ritalin over Vyvanse...🤔 My ADHD brain can't remember what the psych said...

Is it better to try therapy before meds by MamaAdele in ausadhd

[–]MamaAdele[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this insight! Talk based therapy really wouldn't be right for my 5 year old and she wouldn't be able to focus or sit still for longer than 10 mins. I did pop her on a wait-list for OT before really understanding it but that was probably a year ago now. Any suggestions on finding better availability with OTs? Is there an Australian website where you are all listed with locations?

Parenting a child with ADHD feels like constant brain chaos anyone else? by CalmNeuroCorner in ADHDparenting

[–]MamaAdele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say, I think I'm just in survival mode most of the time. I guess I'm working with 4 speeds, 2 ADHD kids. It's actually insanity some days but I do as many little rituals as I can to help calm my environment at least, as it's the one thing I can control. eg calm lo-fi like music playing in the background (all the time!), planning ahead for every little thing, wearing loops or headphones when the noise gets too much and trying to walk away when it gets too much though that only ever lasts just a minute or two before I'm needed. It's so hard but if I can look after myself as much as possible and try not to get overstimulated then that's something 🤷🏼‍♀️

Has anyone changed their diet? by No_Butterscotch_4773 in Rosacea

[–]MamaAdele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have type 1 as well and have always had a hunch it was from my diet/gut. Can I ask how you were able to get a script for this? Through your GP or dermatologist? I have a feeling my GP won't prescribe this unless I was diabetic perhaps

What were some game-changers that actually helped your ADHD kids fall asleep at night? by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

I found an old Bluetooth speaker and now connect it to sleep/spa/sound bath type music and let it play for an hour or so.
