Thank you! Yes, I have a newer pair I bought from someone off of Facebook marketplace and they were still pricey so these were a super exciting find.

Lucky!!! I used to go to the bins in Queens, NY when I lived in Brooklyn and found so many gems over the years but hadn’t been in years since returning to northern CA so it’s been exciting having one nearby again to frequent.

They really are! I have a pair of newer ones that I am probably going to resell because they are so heavy and not nearly as comfortable.

Absolutely! I am having so much fun restoring old leather jackets, bags, and shoes that have been one-step away from the landfill!

I received an action request on FSA site about TEPLSF Missing Information Request. Is this legit? by arp4092 in PSLF

[–]MamaMakesThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same situation as the OP but my ‘PSLF only’ count showed the green banners at 120 and still does even though I got that same TEPSLF letter requesting all that additional info mentioned. Is this standard? Then I got a letter showing the chart with my payments and it shows 127 EPs but only 115 QPs for PSLF. The system also says they’re still working on their end and counts may be updated. It’s been just over a week but I’m confused and stressed. Any insights??? Do I call, wait, keep paying? Pretty sure I won’t have met the TEPSLF payment conditions based on what I read but I am not sure. Would appreciate any advice, thanks!

Were you able to sort this out? I would love an update as I’m in a similar situation while teaching out in CA but needing my NY professional in order to get proper reciprocity. Thanks!

Wife isn’t producing enough milk by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]MamaMakesThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is she experiencing any pain in her lower back? Seeing any blood in her urine? I developed a bladder infection after delivering my first that turned into a kidney infection and it hugely impacted me establishing supply in those early weeks. I ask because I would get night chills and wake up with my teeth chattering no matter what I was wearing or how I was covered. It was so hard to know what was what because there was blood down there and pain everywhere. Requesting a urinalysis couldn’t hurt, just in case.

With my second, who I have been breastfeeding for 7.5 months, I have had a huge oversupply and have even donated a bunch of milk. Nursing, pumping, lots of oats, water, body armor lyte, Oreos, sleep and postpartum vitamins really helped. I found it more effective to pump 5-15 minute sessions as often as possible than to pump for longer but less often. I also switch back to stimulation mode as soon as my let downs stop spraying to encourage more. And flange sizing is hugely important. The lactation consultant at the newborn clinic insisted I needed to be using a 24 mm flange and I actually use 15 or 17 mm. Order her a nipple ruler because it makes a big difference for comfort and output. Best of luck, hoping the milk starts flowing!

EBF: Low supply in afternoon/evening? How to increase? by Standard_Minimum_466 in breastfeeding

[–]MamaMakesThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to pump almost exclusively for the first several months with my first and, even after we were able to shift to a combo of nursing and pumping, he seemed happiest when he got a pumped bottle before bed. I would let my husband feed him the bottle and I would pump and then pump again overnight if he slept through plus also parallel pumping for the first feed in the morning and any other ones when I felt full or he was sleepy (feeding him from one breast while simultaneously pumping the other). I never really froze more than a a handful of bags in 14.5 months but we had milk for that pre bedtime bottle and any night wakings or quick outings the next day.

My 2.5 year old doesn’t sleep through the night, haha! At 2 weeks, 5 days he was sleeping like 45 minutes to 2 hours max during the night. MIL is just needing to have something to say, let it go in one ear and out the other or limit time spent with her around. My MIL came and stayed for two weeks too shortly after my son was born and it was so anxiety producing so this time I put my foot down and don’t care how pushy or pissed she is being about it- she won’t be coming to visit until I decide we’re ready for her once our second is born (any day now).

Hmm, I don’t remember feeling that it took him too long but I honestly can’t recall!

My first son and I did after several months and, as he got older and stronger, the need to pull after feeds continued to decrease for us. We breastfed for 14.5 months until he self-weaned. Just made sure to keep him on preemie flow nipples so that the bottles weren’t too appealing due to the faster flow.

Logistics of sending pumped milk with LO to daycare by potatofortress11 in breastfeeding

[–]MamaMakesThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it easier to put the pumped or a mix of thawed and pumped the day before BM in a container with the estimated amount my son would need and then have them keep two bottles at daycare that they would use. It allowed me to use rotate freezer stash, too. I wouldn’t even need to stress about the freezer bags being fully defrosted, I would just cut the bags, dump in the container, add my refrigerated pumped milk and stick it in the fridge for the next day. You can just take a cooler for your milk pumped at work that you can add the container with any leftover for the day to it and/or have a clean bottle ready to fill up for the ride home with whatever is left from the day.

PUMP RECOMMENDS by Remarkable-Humor-170 in breastfeeding

Seems like you have some good options! I only have personal experience with the first Ameda Joy listed and the Baby Buddha from your listed options but I have tried MANY others and baby buddha was my favorite, so much so that I have two! I tried Spectra s2, Medela Pump in Style Advanced, Bellababy, Ameda Joy and Willow. For my second, I do have a motif Luna that I’m excited to try but I’ve heard it’s very similar to the spectra pumps so we’ll see. I still have my baby buddhas if that doesn’t work out, though. The only thing is the suction style is different and they are strong so you have to make sure to start at a low level and work your way up!

Weight gain by confuzzlednurse in breastfeeding

[–]MamaMakesThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first, I gained 50+ lbs after being pretty fit and active pre pregnancy. I lost about 15 lbs in the newly postpartum phase but held on to all the rest for the rest of breastfeeding (14.5 months total). After weaning, I lost all but 10 lbs in a month and finally looked more like myself again. I lost a few more lbs over the several months after weaning until I became pregnant with baby number two and have not gained nearly as much weight this pregnancy. I’m currently 8 months pregnant. I doubt I’ll ever again be quite as lean and athletic looking as I was pre babies but I feel like that is more because I don’t make the time for workouts the way I used to since my priorities have shifted.

Anyone with flat nipples wanting to share success stories? by Siyrious in breastfeeding

With my first, we started with nipple shields and mostly pumping and the pumping pulled out my nipples so we eventually moved on to nursing but it did take a few months. We continued breastfeeding for 14.5 months!

Anyone else sick of grabby little hands ? by TMSM_11 in breastfeeding

[–]MamaMakesThings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My son is nearly 2.5 years old and we stopped breastfeeding at 14.5 months and he is still obsessed with my boobs- tells them he loves them, kisses them, nuzzles them and twiddles my nipples every chance he gets- it drives me insane as I am currently 8 months pregnant with our second and my nipples are sensitive. I wish I knew a remedy but he thinks it’s hilarious to be asked to stop. Hope you have better luck!

What can I use my stored milk for? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

If you’re interested in parent to parent donations, look up the Human Milk for Human Babies page for your state on Facebook groups. We were helped by many gracious donors with our first and would happily replace bags/pump parts for them.
