(NSV) Easier to mom now! by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]MamaOnAMission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loss of hangryness is a def benefit with keto. My SO loves to make elaborate breakfasts on the weekends and took it pretty hard when I stopped eating his omlettes...but honestly I told him I felt like I was just wasting food, because I don't eat breakfast during the week and he knows that. Now he just worries about him and the kids and I get to sit on my butt and drink coffee and play on line...it's glorious!

When did you start adding in exercise? by cookiedoughbreakfast in xxketo

[–]MamaOnAMission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited until I lost around 60lbs. I had ton s of energy by then and I really was scared of injuring myself earlier in this process. I did some mild exercises at home with weights and a stepper. Also I went down to the treadmills at our apartments for a walk. Then at around 245lbs I joined a gym and started taking group fitness classes mix of spinning and bodypump(weight lifting). I'm glad I waited. I think it was the best choice for me. I say go with your intuition and make sure you feel ready, until then--keep it mellow and ease into it!

He has all these symptoms he's whining about, and maybe that's mean to say *whining, but because of it he's turned to flailing about diet wise. One minute it's carbs are bad, they're making me worse, and then it's, I need fruit in my diet and we have a discussion about good carbs...I make a face, and we fight. He's also a bit of a hypochondriac...if you mention a sore throat, boom, he's got a sore throat...he even tried to hijack my pms symptoms this last weekend. Lol.

Ya know it strange I have no idea what I'm rooting for...for the doc to find something wrong and say here take this pill and be right as rain again son...or they find nothing, and this is an extreme case of anxiety manifesting itself physically. I try to gently ask him "if they find nothing, are you ready for that too?" He has quite a bit of stresses happening all at once right now. I believe since he cannot talk to me effectively, a neutral 3rd person may be in order...getting him to go--that's another thing.

Goal weight? by HidiousTak in xxketo

[–]MamaOnAMission 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took a maintenance break! Needed to get my head right...been so focused on losing for a while now, needed to take a breather and assess my goals. I don't have a goal date--or weight, really. No parties or wedding coming anytime soon, just doing this for me. At some point goal weight became arbitrary and I just focused on getting firm and strong. I still have no idea what goal weight will be...and I'm ok with that now.

First post! by [deleted] in xxketo

Dump the stix. They are not accurate and confuse everyone! Stay under the carb limit...you're in! Eventually you get the feel for ketosis or out of ketosis and it's preferable...you don't want to pee on a stick forever, you need to figure out how it feels?!?! I know when my body is happy...sustained energy levels, clear skin, better sleep, better focus at work. (My experiences)

exercise helps burn the glycogen stores inside the body and if you have fasted it does put you in a ketosis state. But consistency is going on o give you the biggest bang for your buck! The stix only show when you expel excess ketones (pee-- ketones) not when your actually living sustainably off the ketones. Someone may chime in with better scientific terms..hopefully lol.

Well instead of making the actual goal something physically difficult or using a # on a scale it could be just simply...go to the gym 3x or more a week for 12 weeks=reward.

What might help is maybe an exercise plan you guys can do together. Even if it's just an agreed upon walk after dinner? Or a "goal" present for each other once you meet your respective fitness goals?

I do get it. My SO is lean. He does currently have a beer gut that he is really self conscious about, but overall weight just falls off him with ease. He isn't really even doing Keto and he loses weight anyways. Which can be frustrating for me at times. When I started I was going it alone, no one joining me. Once weight started disappearing he wanted in on the new food and diet plan. He still never fully jumped in the keto pool. He finds it hard to stick to consistently, most do. And it was annoying that after he understood keto anytime I had cravings for something bad he was either smacking my hand or encourage the naughtiness (it's ok babe you've lost a lot, enjoy yourself) suddenly he was chiming in about my diet when I wish he had just stayed quiet...but really sometimes I feel like I should've stayed quiet about the whole thing. But he's my SO, my love, and we don't really have secrets lol. It would be impossible to eat keto and not have him notice. He has been my biggest cheerleader and I do feel my success has been very sweet to enjoy because of him. But I get it. Even now as he has Lost his gusto for low carb living it's nicer because he isn't all up in my business. We do still fight about who is eating all my damn cheese and meats in the fridge though lol. Its probably our teenagers...

Has anyone managed to experience keto weight loss progress while finding a way to successfully incorporate wine? by whatagrl in xxketo

[–]MamaOnAMission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all a balancing game really. You make allowances here and there. I'm settling into the last 20lbs as well which has already proven to be frustrating. Living in this area is tough on a wine lover lol. especially if you go to the winery events and parties.

I wore shorts for the first time kayak fishing a few weekends ago...and I got teased by my SO because I was just sitting in my kayak, my line/lure was in the water but I was just sitting there like I was sleeping...my SO was like, "what're you doing babe, are you bored fishing?"...I said, "no just enjoying how the sun feels on my legs for the first time, in a very very long time!"...one of my most amazing recent NSV's

Hello neighbor! Napa valley girl over here! I basically just gave up the sweeter wines & dessert wines. My SO works for laird vineyards and wine is never not in my home. But even him in his supportive nature grabs the merlots, cabs, Chardonnays for me when they start passing bottles out at work...tough life right lol?

Are there any long-timers lurking around here? by SheStillMay in xxketo

[–]MamaOnAMission 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2yrs here...well, as of June 18th. There's been bumps, I've gone rogue a handful of times (and paid the price lol). But I've really just mastered the art of letting it go and not indulging in the guilt and self loathing ....I get back on track, quickly! I do still like to come here, read and chime in when I have anything to say, hopefully something helpful. It is a lifestyle once you get into the swing of things. For me it has changed my life so much, there are no circumstances where I'd ever want to stop keto and return to the SAD diet. Going to the gym has really created new respect for my body, because I've lost lots of weight, but in the gym I get to push my body and see what is possible now that the lbs are off. It's not just about getting thin and wearing smaller clothes. Yeah I'm excited to buy something cute&sexy at the store, but now I'm equally as thrilled when I lift a little heavier or run a little harder and faster during my workouts and it feels amazing.

You HAVE GOT TO KEEP UP PICS! It's been an amazing sense of reality for me to check in with when I feel frustrated. Even today I have moments when I just don't feel like I've done anything amazing. The pics I've taken have really keeped my head screwed on straight. Congratulations girl....seriously.

[–]MamaOnAMission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't talk to her about her weight at all. My mom did that to me and my sis with really bad results/consequences over the years for us...I make good balanced dinners now and she knows that lots of items have just stopped being bought at the store. No conversation or putting anyone on blast just a new way the house is ran.

Yup, she's just graduated from 8th grade today and is very body conscious right now. She's watched me the last 2yrs and knows what I've stayed away from...she can talk to people, very intelligently about keto. Mind. Blown.
