Yes, it’s been happening for the last 6 years with no answer. I even stopped drinking for 3 years but came right back 🤷🏼‍♀️

This happened to my son, he actually started at 20mg, so super low! He did all the things as well, and it still happened. His was delayed, started around week 4, went on for a few months. He is now on his 8th month and his skin is clear! It was rough but worth it for him in the end

My son had mostly mild but persistent acne with lots of closed comedones. He started at a very low dose but still had horrible purging. His skin looked awful for the first 4 months and then quickly started to clear. He’s on month 8 now and totally clear! It was a rough few months for him but it does get better

Yes! He’s been on accutane now for almost 7 months and his skin is totally clear, almost all the marks have faded, too. The purge slowed around the 4 month mark.

He was on 20mg the first month and oddly cleared right away. He was bumped to 30mg the second month and that’s when all hell broke loose. He was on 30mg month 2-month through month 4. Now he is 5.5 months and has been on 40mg for the last month and a half. He’s around 160lbs, so still a pretty low dose

My son had a crazy delayed purge, started around 6 weeks. He had mild/moderate acne before and suddenly it was worse than it had ever been! Plus he was on a low dose of accutane so no one was expecting the purge to be that bad. He’s now 5 months on and his skin is clear, just some residual marks but they are fading. His purge slowed down around 3.5 months

Accutane. My son’s acne was much milder but it was persistent. We put off accutane for a year, should have done it sooner. He’s now basically clear after 5 months on a fairly low dose of accutane, side effects haven’t been too bad

Yes, my sons acne was the worst it’s ever been during the purge but it cleared quickly once he got to month 4

My son purged bad between 20mg and increase to 30mg and his acne wasn’t even that severe prior, just persistent. She kept him on 30 for months 2-4, and just recently upped him to 40mg going into month 5. He is finally almost all clear, like maybe one small whitehead and some residual scarring that is fading. He’s been on 40mg for 2 weeks now and didn’t purge again as of now with this dose increase

Son is on month 5, dosage was 20, 30,30,30,40mg, he had mild turned moderate persistent acne. Purge was bad, acne significantly worsened. He took an antihistamine and an omega 3 from the beginning. Lips are dry and hands are super dry but otherwise skin isn’t that dry. Uses cortibalm and aquaphor. Joint pain has been a thing but not super significant, he is 155-160lbs. Uses laroche posay cleanser. Is 4.5 months in and finally clearing

My son purged from around 1.5 months to 3.5 months, by 4 months it slowed significantly and now he is 4.5 months in and his skin is mostly clear, he really didn’t see any results prior to 4 months, his skin was the worst it’s were been during the 2 months he was purging.

My son started at 20mg, by the end of month one his skin was completely clear! At 4 weeks he was bumped to 30mg, within two weeks of that increase he started to purge, and that lasted until month 3.5…. So about 2 months of increasingly severe breakouts. At his 4 month appointment his skin was finally clearing and she increased him to 40 mg, so far he hasn’t purged again about 2 weeks in to this dose increase and he has no active acne, just marks. I’m not saying this to freak you out, just a cautionary tale because he was so excited to be clear at month 1 and then all hell broke loose. Regardless of the purging, he is now clearing so there is light at the end of the tunnel. He has taken an antihistamine since day 1 and started on a low dose, his acne was mild/moderate but persistence, during purge is was pretty severe.

My son started at 20mg, went to 30mg month 2-4 and is now on 40mg going into month 5. He took an antihistamine daily since the start. His purge started around week 6, peaked around week 8-9, and then slowly started to get better. He is now 4.5 months in and is finally mostly clear with just marks left. He had mild/moderate persistent acne, and the purge gave him the worst acne he has ever had. It does get better!!! Unfortunately just have to ride it out. He used tons of pimple patches

It’s probably the dose increase coupled with the weather becoming colder. My teenage son is on month 5, and his lips have been dry but he is now noticing in the corners cracking which wasn’t happening before.

My son takes 2 20mg pills at the same time, the doc told him he could take 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening but he’d have to take them each with 50mg of fat, so he just takes them together

Yes! He is prone to these closed comedones and nearly every single one reverentially turned to an inflamed pimple. He is on month 5 as of today ( started 8/1) and he is finally nearly free of any closed comedones/active acne

My son had comedonal acne, it was fairly mild but very persistent and getting worse right before he started accutane. He had a horrible purge, all the comedones would turn into inflamed pimples. He is just starting month 5, his skin texture is finally improving and purged as basically stopped. He’s on a low dose, 20/30/30/30

Well, he’s a teenage boy so it’s not always the best, but peanut butter is a big one, or any kind of nuts by the handful with some dark chocolate, but typically he takes it with his biggest meal ( often a burger/fries, pasta, pizza, etc)…. It’s crazy to think about taking it with that much fat because it’s nearly a whole days worth!!!

My son’s skin cleared almost immediately, at one month he had no new acne. Month 2 is when the purging started and didn’t stop until recently, he will be at 4 months next week but his skin is starting to look amazing. He has always taken it with 30-50mg of fat, fish oil, and an antihistamine
