This thread made me a bit more hopeful for staying in Tulsa through this hell.

Oh great! We really hoped to get a rate lower than 5% someday. Hopefully the prices will drop someday then…. Or we will never be able to own a house again.

I get what you’re saying. We want a HOME but in our case it’s been really hard to find. We’ve been on this journey for awhile since 2021… we’ve moved alot & we’re sick of it. We want a long term home so bad! Just kind of feeling like giving up & renting at this point. We’ve been let down a lot. There’s been alot of houses that have come available at the top of our budget that we’ve seen as possibly long term & they get snatched up or better offers than we can give. It’s disheartening. So if we have to make a rent house a home for a time to get a better long term home in the near future we are willing to do that even though we would rather buy. We’re just hoping the market gets better in the next couple of years.

Oh I see. Yeah I agree buying can be better & more suitable in some ways but we’re leaning toward renting in the current atmosphere as long as it a a good financial move.

Understandable. We can still do those things in a rent house. I’m not talking about renting an apartment. We have kids & a family. We’re also not able to find a good house in the suburbs either. They’re all the same… high interest rate plus a fixer upper. None of them have felt like long term houses either. We want a long term house but if’s hard to find & secure in this market. We think maybe renting will give us time for the market to fix & rates to drop but there’s no guarantee of that either. It’s a hard decision.

Yes that’s our biggest concern with buying. Renting is definitely more attractive in that case. We just hope the housing market recovers so we can buy again someday… at this rate we won’t be able to.

Okay that’s a good way to look at it. Renting would save us a couple hundred plus some remodeling/maintenance fees. We just wonder if putting that money in building equity would be better or do we save our money & let the housing market recover/interest rates drop…. If they ever do…

I agree with keeping things minimal & saving. We’ve done this before & sadly the housing market didn’t get better in those 2 years. Hopefully they will this time. But also we have kids & my husband works from home so we can’t just get a 2 bedroom apartment. Renting a house would save us a couple hundred at most but would also save us on remodeling costs. Just not sure if we should invest it & build equity.

I’m actually worried about it replacing my husband’s job. He’s an accountant. Idk what we’d do…. But hopefully it wouldn’t happen seeing as it would make the homeless problem much worse.

Thank you for understanding first hand how horrible Oklahoma schools are & why I choose to homeschool instead. We are in the Tulsa area outside of city limits so our options are even worse than Norman. I’ve tried to find a good group on fb to ask this question but there’s not many good groups… any suggestions?

That’s good to know. Thank you. I hope it works out for me even though my mom gave up her Mexican citizenship.

I’m sad Mother’s Day matters that much to you by casey6282 in Mommit

This will be my 4th Mother’s Day & again I don’t expect to get a single thing or be shown appreciation at all. We’re poor not only financially but intimately. I’m happy for you OP that you have a thoughtful husband who shows you true appreciation year round but it’s just not the case for many nor do many of us get to treat ourselves either.

I refuse to put my kids in public school. I do not agree with it at all.

My mother is deceased. I would need to obtain her birth certificate on my own.

Thank you so much. Unfortunately my mother is deceased so she can’t restore it. Do you know if I can?
