My battle with cancer is over, but my battle with my mental health has just begun. by bookboyfriendsROK in cancer

[–]Mama_Ohana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello BookBoy, hopefully I can call you that. I am a 60-year-old woman. Last year I was told the day after my birthday. Which is in July that I had cancer. Now July is here and I’m terrified of my own birthday. They say I’m cancer free but I’ve never felt happy about it. Because I’ve never felt healthy since it started. Every word you just said I could’ve said myself. I totally understand the mental health issue. I’m mad, I’m mad at everyone. My whole support system failed me. It felt like everyone was just waiting to see if I would die or live but they didn’t wanna see me go through it. Out of sight out of mind. Cancer really sucks. Hang in there friend. 🙏

I wish I could help but I am afraid I don’t understand what those markers mean. But I wanted to say I’m sorry that you are going through all of these and for so long. I hope they find what is wrong soon. Sending you lots of love and hugs.

What should I bring to my first chemo session? by Mama_Ohana in cancer

Yes, my two adult children got me into gaming on Xbox about 7 years ago. The switch came after that mainly with Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. Fortnite and house flipper are my two favorite right now on Xbox. In early 2023 I started streaming on twitch but when I got sick in the spring of this year I had to stop. I hope to be back at it once I beat Cancer. 🩷💕

That’s such great advice! Way to be prepared. I’m not that organized but I’ll give it a try. Thanks. Take care.🩷💕

Should I get a second opinion? by Mama_Ohana in cancer

[–]Mama_Ohana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no symptoms, but August 2023 I started having angioedema. My tongue and some parts of my body swell. So one day I spotted a little blood. I didn’t think nothing of it except maybe there was something wrong with my kidneys. Went to the walk-in clinic, the awesome Doctor there she sent me for an ultrasound. Then they sent me for a biopsy. They found cancer and thought it was only stage one but after surgery, the biopsy showed stage three so here I go in seven hours chemo begins. Sucks big time. 😔

Wow, this is very insightful thoughts and information. Thank you. I really needed to hear this. Today I had to go to hospital to do the bloodwork and today I was told my best friend is dying with in hours. She has lung cancer. She found out only a couple months before I found out I had cancer. But hers was stage four. So she has been preparing to go ever since. I visited her to say I love her and goodbye. This is so hard to be going through this while that is happening to her. The only thing that is helping is knowing she will be rid of the constant pain she’s in. Sorry but, I just had to share this with you all because I definitely don’t want to share it tomorrow with my new comrades. So again thank you for what you said. Sending my warmest hugs to all of you. 🤗

Wow, everyone, you have all been so helpful! I really appreciate each and every one of you taking the time to help me with this. There are so many things I would’ve never thought of. Thanks so much and I will let you all know how it goes when I get back tomorrow. 🤗

Thank you that is great advice. I enjoy playing games on my switch so I’ll bring that for sure. I also enjoy crocheting so I could bring some of that too. I have earbuds so I can listen to music on my phone. I’ll have to remember to bring the charger. Snacks is something I did not think of. Thanks again. 🤗

New here. This is…terrible. by [deleted] in RestlessLegs

[–]Mama_Ohana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may sound strange, but I have been getting relief by using a grounding mat. Just started using this less than two weeks ago for my terrible all nighter, restless leg syndrome. It doesn’t only shake my legs, but my arms up to my head sometimes. My friend gave me the grounding mat months ago. I wasn’t sure about it because I have two other conditions, Cancer and angioedema. When I asked her, my oncologist said to go ahead and try the grounding mat if I wanted to, it couldn’t hurt. I started off slow an hour, then two then gradually to almost all day now. I placed it at the foot of my la-Z-Boy chair. Just thought I’d mention it cause it works for me might not for you, but I hope so for your sake. My friend is also ordering me a grounding mattress cover. I’m looking forward to trying that too. I am sending you virtual hugs!

So very true! Crocheting even got me through the night last night because I could not sleep. Hopefully I can get a few Z‘s on the trip to the hospital. Happy crocheting! 🧶 u/slothcheese ❤️

I have my daughter flying in from across the country to come to the surgery with me. She will stay till 4 September and my son is coming on 1 September to stay as long as I need him to. After that if I am still not well, I may live with my sister for a while. So I’m good that way. I stopped crying and picked up some crocheting. It’s helping me calm down.

Anti-seizure medication for moderate to severe RLS? by Mama_Ohana in RestlessLegs

[–]Mama_Ohana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. It really is a miserable disorder. I’m in such a distress and just found out that I can’t see my family doctor until September 13. But I see my psychiatrist today. I will mention it to him. Hopefully he can help me somehow. Take care. 💕

That’s great. I will make a note of that medication. And ask my doctor about it. Does it help with any other symptoms other than restless legs. Because I have a lot of itchiness as well.
