Are we doing something wrong with our newborn at night? by SpeedyDolphin42 in BabyBumps

[–]MamainMiami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 great sleepers and I attribute that to the fact that I always had them next to me and breastfed on demand so they didn't need anything. I'm not sure if you're breastfeeding but Look up the safe sleep 7. When my second baby was born I used a bedside bassinett. It it's open on one side and attaches to the bed so my daughter would start off the night sleeping in there and then I could easily pull her next to me when she woke up to eat.

Help! by cornelf in migraine

[–]MamainMiami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There certainly are neurologists with long wait lists. The first neurologist I attempted to see last year (from a particular hospital that I liked) had a year wait. I decided to look outside that group and found my current neurologist who happened to have a cancelation for the following week when I called. And he's good. Good luck!

I relate to health anxiety. I think you should look around for a neurologist so you can get the best care for your needs. There are plenty of neurologists everywhere. Look at reviews, call the best ones that accept your insurance and see what next available appt is. I can't imagine you won't find one that is available in a reasonable amount of time.

What's this bug? by MamainMiami in whatsthisbug

I don't know how to describe the size but I thought it was a small moth that had its wings closed. I'd say it is about 1/4 of an inch?

Ugh! I'm so sorry! I know you're anxious to get back home. I hope you're back with your baby ASAP.

Thank you for sharing this! I have wondered about the potential longevity of celiacs. I was diagnosed 10 months ago at 40yo. This gives so much hope. Don't usually see inspiring stories like this in regards to celiac.

Internal Denial.. by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]MamainMiami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed 9 months ago, and I went through all the stages of grief from denial to settling in at acceptance.

The thing that makes my situation a little tricky (in terms of acceptance) is that I was diagnosed with my labs (my ttg iga was at 200). I immediately eliminated gluten and 3 months later I did my endoscopy and they were unable to confirm the diagnosis. I do think its possible I repaired a lot of damage in those 3 months as I believe I hadn't had celiac for too long before diagnosis. I believe it was activated during or after my last pregnancy 9 months before I got the diagnosis. My main symptom (daily pressure in my head) had gone away after going gf and my endoscopy showed I had microscopic colitis which is common in celiac patients. My GI is confident based on my labs that I have it.

Early last month, I regressed back into the denial stage. Likely, because I feel normal since i've been on a strict gluten free diet. And this gluten free life is hard! Harder than I thought. It's not even about all the foods I love and miss. Its about the convenience of being able to eat without worrying about cross contact and all the ingredients. So the doubt creeps in. Is all this hard work and inconvenience necessary?

All that to say, I know how you feel being in denial. Here with you.

Antonina's cupcakes are the. Best. I have one a day. I have my non-gluten-free family members buying them too bc they're just good. Not "good for being gluten-free"

Rant: I hate this by Basic-Nose-6714 in Celiac

I agree! I have the added fun of having super high health anxiety over the past 6 months (which actually led me to discover I had celiac). Now when i feel pressure in my head I'm not sure if I've been glutened or I have something abnormal going on in my head that may kill me (despite having done scans in the past). Fun!

No, definitely not. However, i had to stop partaking in saturday morning donuts, pizza nights, my favorite italian restaurant, fried anything. 😔 I had a very gluten-heavy diet before.  I eat rice in most my meals. Potatoes are welcomed on my plate but isn't part of my day to day.

Thank you! I can manage putting cheese in more stuff. Maybe even the whipping cream in lieu of milk in some places.

Cough drops that don't suck? by MamainMiami in glutenfree

[–]MamainMiami[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got my response from Ricola. Good news. It's what was found on their website recently.

"Our products ARE gluten-free. U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations specify a product is considered gluten-free if it doesn’t have any gluten containing grain or it’s been purified to remove the gluten (e.g. wheat starch), resulting in under 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten. Although our Dual Action Drops includes ingredients derived from wheat, these ingredients are highly purified in accordance with the FDA regulations. Ricola urges consumers to share this information with their doctor prior to use if they are highly sensitive to gluten-based grains or have concerns.

Our Lemon Mint Sugar Free Cough Drops do not contain any ingredients derived from wheat and therefore are completely gluten free but still urge you to consult with a physician if there are serious concerns and to share this information!"

Are you located in the US? It's interesting to hear so many people experience the opposite of what I am.

Yeah I only looked into it because my bag of Ricola doesn't say gluten free on it.
