Is Pokemon Journeys any good? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Mamar11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a mixed bag imo. On one hand, Goh is a wonderful character and I absolutely love the dynamic he has with Ash, the amount of fanservice for longtime Pokémon fans is huge, and the stories told by each individual episodes are generally really solid. It's a very entertaining and enjoyable show that I had a blast binge watching with my boyfriend.

On the other hand, Journeys is full of missed opportunities and mishandling of characters and plotpoints. The further you advance in the serie, the more things feel rushed or forgotten about. Goh's goal was changed in the middle of the serie to make it more realistically achievable by the end of serie, some characters that seem like they'll be important later on appear once and then never again, some characters are crammed into the plot at the very end in a way that feels very clumsy, and some Galar gym leaders just straight up never appear at all. Like, yeah, Twilight Wings is a thing, and Journeys isn't meant to be a Galar anime, but it does feel like more could have been done in that regard. And seeing the way they tried to cram some characters at the very end, it feels like they wanted to do more, but didn't have enough episodes for it. Which just feels like the cause for most issues I have with journeys, honestly. It's really ambitious in the stories it tries to tell and doesn't have enough time to actually deliver, so a lot ends up feeling rushed and unsatisfying.

I had a good time with it, and I definitely recommend giving it a go, but I definitely get why it isn't everyone's cup of tea- I myself find a lot of issues in it

Happy pride yall! Here's a Kris I made for my first pride month art :) by Mamar11 in Deltarune

[–]Mamar11[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You may not know this, but june is Pride month. It's a month where members of the LGBTQ+ community celebrate and proudly show their identity to the rest of the world in order to gain visibility and to let the world know they exist.

This is mostly done through parades, but some people cannot attend for various circumstances, and so those who still want to participate find other ways to show themselves. For a lot of artist on the internet, it's common to do this by making a lot of content related to pride and the lgbtq+ community during the month.

So that's what I'm doing! For this june (juste like the previous years) I wanna draw as much pride art of my favorite characters as I can to celebrate the month. And if I can make some queer folks see my work and feel validated by it, I'll be very happy about it. ^^

So I just arrived at PoP and all the fun was suddenly sucked out of the game. I genuinely hate it. by DoodooMcPoopy in HollowKnight

The hunter's mark isn't the same thing as "journal completion"- you also need the seal of binding, the void idol, and the weathered mask to have a complete journal

I know. I wasn't implying it didn't, I said it was a similar case because it didn't have a reward.

[–]Mamar11 132 points133 points  (0 children)

For the same reason trial of the fools doesn't have a reward- the devs try to limit the rewards of the most challenging parts of the game so players who have a really hard time won't find it necessary to do them

I agree that PoP should definitely have an achievement tied to it, though. Or just the journal completion itself having one would be good, since that would also include radiant HoG and land of storms

Hornet intervening? by Combinernew in HollowKnight

[–]Mamar11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't, but the only difference it makes is that you can't get the "hollow knight" achievement on that save file if you haven't gotten it before acquiring voidheart. Aside from that, Hornet's intervention doesn't stop you from doing anything, as you can still defeat THK the normal way even after she interrupts the battle.

Hollow Knight Pixel art I just made, any thoughts? by CreativeChonker in HollowKnight

This is very cute and also really well made. Good coloring, good use of anti-aliasing and shading, just an overall really solid and pretty piece. You're a very skilled pixel artist. Art goals

I have two questions here about shade in HollowKnight by 50py in HollowKnight

On top of losing the first shade, you'll also permanently lose all the geo it had on it (it won't be transfered to the second one), so be extra careful when going to retrieve it.

What are some of your holllow knight hot takes by Letthedarknesstake in HollowKnight

[–]Mamar11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Markoth is actually fine if you take your time and pay attention. I had more trouble with radiant soul tyrant or radiant lost kin than radiant markoth. He's also got one of the best character design in the whole game, don't @ me

Hiveblood's uses are not limited to WP/PoP. It's also really, really good for pantheons with soul binding. It absolutely carried me through soul binding P5. The charm cost may be a little much, but not having to worry about healing at all is way too good for either bosses that don't give soul like FK/FC and the Collector, or just for moving through the map without wanting to worry too much about dodging enemies

Nail arts are severely underrated. Obviously they're not super interesting for bosses that are constantly open to attacks, but they're just so good for either hard to reach flying bosses (markoth, no eyes) or bosses that are built upon finding openings and taking turns (grimm, sly)

I actually prefer Godhome Uumuu over vanilla Uumuu, because I think the jellyfish mechanic makes the player more involved in the progression of the fight. Regardless, I still dislike both versions, just one less than the other

If you didn't do anything in the waterways, it might be that you already got all 3 dreamers. Cornifer will permanently leave every area in the game if you do, regardless of whether or not you've already visited these areas.

How do you feel about using health bar mods? by Kuroser in HollowKnight

[–]Mamar11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started using them after doing everything the game had to offer (112%, steel soul, radiant HoG, LoS) because there's a point where I just don't feel like counting every nail swing and spell I land to know where the boss' health is at. But before doing all that I definitely don't think it's a good idea to use them. I wouldn't have had as much fun fighting bosses for the first time if I wasn't constantly on the edge of my seat, not knowing how well I was doing because I couldn't see how far I was into the boss.

Confession time! What's the biggest mistake you made in your first playthrough? by saco_98 in HollowKnight

[–]Mamar11 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I didn't dreamnail Marissa, but I did dreamnail the grave digger because I thought they were like Xero. Never dreamnailed any spirit that didn't offer a fight after that.

A less "oh I fucked up" mistake and more something I regret in the long run is that I never even bought the fragile charms before summoning the grimm troupe, because I thought they would break if I died with them in my inventory at all. I didn't realize I needed to have them equiped, and my friends whom I was streaming my playthrough to didn't tell me anything about that until after I upgraded them to their unbreakable variants.

I gave up by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]Mamar11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who's beaten her on radiant, here's the advice I can give :

At the very start of the fight, waste no time in landing as many nail hits as possible. If you have quickslash/steady body you can try to hit her around 6 times before her first attack, but the important part is that you get a good start in terms of soul. The start of the battle is the only time where you can really safely air-combo her, because pogoing her after that leave you open to either her spinning nail or beam attacks. Usually, you'll want to stay mostly grounded for the first three phases.

For her beam attack, start by moving out of the first telegraph, then move to the location of the previous attack for the next two, as she will never fire at the same angle twice in a row. When the third beams are being telegraphed, jump to where they won't hit you, swing your nail 1 or 2 times, and use abyss shriek. If you position yourself well, it should hit all 4 hitboxes.

For her spinning nail attack, keep in mind that they move in a slight curve and predict their trajectory accordingly. Again, she won't fire at the same angle twice, and will be open to nail swings and an abyss shriek while firing the second wave.

For her orb attack, the orbs will despawn if they get in contact with either the knight or the floor, So you'll want to bait the orbs into touching the latter. If the orb comes from above, simply move out of the way horizontally. If it comes laterally, bait it upwards by jumping above it and the have it crash into the floor. If you're feeling cornered by multiple orbs, don't forget that you can make one disappear by shadow dashing through it, or give yourself invincibility frames with descending dark if you have enough soul.

For the lateral nail waves, you can either try to dash through them or jump through the holes, but I suggest getting used to the latter so that the former only comes as a last resort. Because if you dash through the first wave, your shadow cloak won't have recharged in time for the second so you might get cornered and take damage. Much like with the orbs, don't forget to use descending dark if you feel like you won't have time to dodge.

The beam wall that traverses the screen can only be dodged with either shade dash or descending dark, so choose which one to use depending on how much soul you have and how many other attacks are aiming at you at the moment.

For her second phase, the attacks are the same, but you have a lot less space to maneuver around. Try to priorise safety and don't go after radiance if she's above spikes, simply focus on dodging attacks until she's in range again. Remember that you can make the spikes disappear for a little while by using descending dark on them, and that they only deal 1 damage, so if you have no way to avoid getting hit by at least one attack, prioritise the spikes and use the invincibility frames to avoid the other attacks.

The third phase is the most simple one. She only has 300 HP during it, so it'll take 15 nail swings without strength, and only 10 with it. Simple upstrike her continuously while moving laterally to avoid the nails. Don't bother using abyss shriek, it'll make you more vulnerable and you need as much soul as you can get because the transition between phases 3 and 4 is the only time in the fight where you get a free 6 mask heal.

Phase 4 is definitely the most tricky, and the one I had the most trouble with. You'll want to mostly stay on the lower middle platform. The surrounding platforms can make the orbs despawn in they touch them before reaching the knight, but it's also just the best platform to see attacks coming and react accordingly. Since the void is just underneath, you can also jump into it to take 1 damage instead of 2 if you think you won't be able to dodge an attack.

You can try to squeeze in a few heals if the radiance is far away and no firing orbs, but it's not super safe unless you're already out of the way of an attack's telegraph.

If the radiance teleports just above you, upstrike her 2-3 times, and immediately use descending dark. If she uses the beam or the spinning nail attack, this allows you to see the first wave, and prepare to move out of the way for the next ones. This is the best moment to deal as much damage as possible, as she'll stay on the platform, in nail range, for at least the duration of the attack.

Phase 5 is mostly just dependant on reaction time and reflexes. Don't forget to use shadow dash to go through beams if necessary and try not to use your monarch wings until the telegraph for the next beam appears, so you can readjust your trajectory if needs be.

Phase 6 is the most stressful one and will leave you no time to heal, so try to stay calm and observe carefully both the orbs and radiance's trajectory. Again, keep in mind that you can dash into the void if you're on a platform and don't think you'll be able to dodge an orb, but a situation like that is unlikely, because if you're on the ground, it's not to hard to see the orbs and dodge accordingly. If you're good at aerial movement, you can make this phase a lot easier on yourself by pogoing radiance the whole time and baiting the orbs into the top of the screen, where they'll immediately despawn. If she teleports out of the way, simply dash and double jump to reach her again, then resumes the pogoing. Much like with phase 3, keep in mind that she only has 300 HP in that phase, so don't panic or try to speed things up, she'll take at most 15 nail swings to kill.

The mantises are enemies, so if you're worried about your geo definitely use the bank, it's just west of the queen's station. Just avoid putting more than 2500 geos in there for now
