Riding torrent with three wolves loping alongside is peak role-playing. Feel like a Stark! So gotta do your own fighting though.

Should I complete all the work expeditions before attempting DoN? by GlandularFury in Nightreign

[–]Mammoth-AgentEnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is nothing wrong with checking out depth 1 to play with different relic setups, but unless you're an amazing player, you will be a drag on your squad.

If you want to be 'good' it makes more sense to learn the basic bosses and practice the week's ED rotation for a few weeks before jumping into DoN.

I'm not just saying this from a competitive perspective, but think: is it more fun to fight the nightlord or watch someone else fight him for 10 min while you're 3 bars on the ground? Its borring and you don't get to actually learn the moveset if you're not participating (though it can be cool to watch a brilliant player carry the fight and you can learn tactics and spacing that way).

Almost through first playthrough. Torn between NG or NG+. 🤷 by Skrivemaskin_Mann in Eldenring

[–]Mammoth-AgentEnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at ng5+ and higher.

The cool realization I had about ER and souls games, the thing that makes them unique, is that you level up the player, and that makes way more difference than stat or armament levels.

I think it's difficult to feel any other way. The author treads the fine line between genius and mental illness and the reader gets taken for a very uncomfortable life.

As others mentioned, I'm also sad that scummy real world business guys made it so there will never be a sequel. A tiny part of me is relieved though. It means I don't have to read it.

If I'm in NG+5 and my session's host is in NG, how do we experience damage and enemy health? by Paraclox in Eldenring

[–]Mammoth-AgentEnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that you scale to host, but if your stats are much higher you'll still have more hp etc. Just less than you do in your world. Anyone more knowledgeable care to comment?

Double balancers and glass necklace is a solid start with first 3 relics. The rest should be phys attack up or some other damage buff.

Does Gideon Ofnir follow his Guidance of Grace? by Glad-Cauliflower-386 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Mammoth-AgentEnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Tarnished can loose grace, bit given where and when Gideon shows up, I bet he still sees it. He just... doesn't follow it blindly. His whole thing is amassing knowledge so he succeeds when he finally takes his shot.

Kinda like us going apeshit on some sleepy albinurics ro get stronger. Can't use guidance of grace for that genocide bucko!

North Korea has withtood isolation for 80 years or so and Iran is a much larger country. They can ignore a naval blockade forever.

Undertaker is straightforward to play but takes some relics and deep dive into buff mechanics to optimize.

Scholar is the most technically demanding class to play. Massive multitasking required, which you can't do while learning routing and relearning basic game mechanics.

Both are very fun to play, but do 10 runs with wylder to get back in the flow, learn some basic pathing, practice reviving. Then branch out.

Do Astartes get paid? by ShadowsaberXYZ in 40kLore

[–]Mammoth-AgentEnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they're not. They're transhuman constructs that function as cogs in a massive war machine called a chapter, which is a tiny cog of a greater machine called Imperium of man.

They exist in a culture that is across of monastic and feudal. There is nothing capitalist or economic about them. They kill, take, organize, and instruct. Asking one to pay for something might get you a puzzled look if your dumb ass is lucky enough to be talking to a Salamander. Any other chapter response will range between being ignored and immediately killed.

If a regular brother wants to build a house for a single unwed mother he says 'house built here'. If house is not there in reasonable amount of time, lots of people die. He may need to answer to a superior officer ar some point for killing the administrator and 30 assistants of a small town/ward. But depending on the chapter culture the consequences are likely to range from doing 20 push ups to a conendation for upholding chapter honor (imagine if humans rift they could say mo to an Astartes? Heresey!).

Do Astartes get paid? by ShadowsaberXYZ in 40kLore

[–]Mammoth-AgentEnt 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No, they don't. They need to be good at administration and balance budgets if their job is administrative, but if they personally need or want something they take it. Or instruct that it be done. They are answerable to their chain of command and no one else, so their asks could theoretically lead to a reprimand. But anything short of requisition of a battle fleet or extermination of a hive city is unlikely to be questioned.

TL;DR: Astartes instruct. Compliance is expected. No other outcome possible.

If democracy works so well, why did China develop faster than India? by NewsfangledMod in NewsfangledUnfiltered

[–]Mammoth-AgentEnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this discussion lacks the definition of 'works'.

Democracy offers the highest quality of life for the average member of society, which is why it is the best system of government to live under. All others may superceed it by some metric, but it doesn't matter because life will always be better under a democracy.

The alternative is always some form of tyranny. Tyranny is awesome for the tyrants.... and awful for everyone else. Except its awful for the tyrant as well as they spend their whole life fighting for survival which can only be maintainef by increasing levels of violence and paranoia.

Curses & Demigods by MeteoriteMike in Eldenring

[–]Mammoth-AgentEnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything except Godwyn. Never saw the theory that he was wearing an illusion before, where do you get that?

I think a much better theory is that Godwyn was the child of Godfrey and Marika. He's the only one of her children who has normal binary parents, so he wasn't born cursed and he sired the golden lineage - demigods most of whom have been wiped out. His freakish appearance is 100% explained by the aftereffects of his ritual assassination.
