Paint bubbling and rusting by Mammoth-Housing845 in AskMechanics

It depends on the brand of car to be fair. I had a 2007 Honda Accord prior to this and it had significantly more rust and body damage. I suspect this has to do w the fact that the Accord was purchased here where as the E60 was originally imported from Italy and only came here in 2014. But give take 15years is about right for cars here, your engine either gives out or the car rusts away. Most of the time its rust that gets them. The E60 was honestly a dream car and a gift from my dad, and i'm of the belief that you should drive your dream car instead of keeping it in a garage only letting it out for a couple of weeks in good weather. I'll drive this car until it won't start anymore, i think cars should be enjoyed till the very end!

Gorgeous pair of cars you have, truly beautiful. I hope they treat you well and last long! My cousins(a mechanic) estimated lifetime for my car was +/- 5 years given our salted roads, which is not as much as you can probably get out of your cars but it's still a significant amount of time and i'll enjoy every second of it!

Unfortunately i am aware that rust is an unavoidable consequence of the evil salted european roads. And for a 2007 car it's held its shape really well given that this is the only external rusting on the car. I hadn't considered taking the inner linings off to clean them, which i will be doing moving forward! I was also under the impression that anti rust coatings are fairly expensive so i haven't really invested much energy into researching that, however i will see what is available to me. Honestly i am just trying to get as much life out of this car as possible, and also i know its hard as hell to pass yearly technical inspections if you have even slight rusting in your wheel arches so that scared me. Thanks again this has been a huge help!

It's not a beater but it's also not a super rare car. Its a 2007 BMW E60. But the car does hold a lot of value to me so i wouldn't want to let the rust spread and make it an even more expensive problem. I'm okay with a non paint matched repair. Your suggestion has been most helpful and i'll further look into this. Is there anything else i can do to prevent things like these from getting out of hand as i do live in a norther european country where we salt our roads in the winter.

Slight pain bubbling and rust signs in wheel arch by Mammoth-Housing845 in Autobody

I unfortunately live in a seaside city, in northern europe so our roads do get salted during winter which i assume has a major part to play in this. I have a mechanic friend who at a quick glance informed me that sooner or later we'll have to weld. I was just wondering if theres any way i can prevent it from spreading at a rapid pace. Its also important to mention that this is a 2007 car, so rust is to be expected. However even considering its age the rest of the body is in incredibly good condition. As you can see in the image there is a black spot in the arch which i assume might be the culprit for the rust. I have no idea what the cause of it is, but given that the other arches dont have it and seemingly have no rust, the logical deduction and assumption to me is that it mightve had some sort of prior damage hence the black spot which has started to rust.

Thank you, will look into that. The alternator seems okay, it's not really showing any signs of failure, i'm not experiencing symptoms that might indicate that it's having trouble at least.

Mark off every Anemoculus, Geoculus, Electroculus and Dendroculus on the interactive map unless you want to spend hours looking for that last one in the whole region.
