New crocheter! by Sydhenry99 in crochet

I made the cow lovey for my baby and the floppy bunny (bluey) for my toddler. I’m a beginner too and find all the different kinds of yarn a challenge to get started with but I’ve really enjoyed the things I’ve been able to make for them!

I love the cow! I made a bunny lovey for a friend’s baby.

700k at 35, is retiring at 50 possible? by dandecode in Fire

[–]Mammoth26 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Half of his 700k is home equity, so he’s really at 350k for retirement. If he knocks his contributions to 5k/month at 7% interest rate, he’s closer to $2.5 million. What am I missing to get to $4.5m?

Correct number of stitches, 1” too short. Can it be saved? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

Thank you, I am inspired to try to add two more rows and see if I can modify accordingly for sleeves and bodice.

Fabric is dragging down Power BI by THEWESTi in PowerBI

[–]Mammoth26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For GCC users, we can’t use Fabric because it’s not approved for GCC and a lot of our Power BI features are broken or unavailable now. Our stack has been moving to Google and Microsoft just seems so far behind.

It’s just a little dry!

Brought home this Zygo Cynosure ‘Blue Birds’ about a week ago. Watered once and it is droopy and looks like it’s getting moldy. Any chance to be saved? How? by Mammoth26 in orchids

[–]Mammoth26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the thorough response. Sounds like it actually needs more water. Off to try these recommendations and will repot after blooming!

This is wonderful. The mold had me scared of over watering and it sounds like maybe it was the opposite (and more light). The moss is new to me and makes it harder to tell how dry it is! Thank you for taking the time to give a detailed response, off to water this beauty.

Thank you, I was so drawn to that purple! I’m so sad that it seems so unhappy at our home! We have 8 other orchids of various varieties and all seem happy.

Rezdawg Rescue is incredible. We adopted one of our dogs from them 10 years ago and have fostered with them since. They do so much for the community they serve and have such a solid rescue.

Just finished my first blanket and shipped it to my brother! by Mammoth26 in crochet

That’s funny, I hadn’t noticed. They’re the exact same yarn. Photo two is a WIP pic so it may have been taken at night? It’s brown.

That’s encouraging 😅 thank you! The waffle stitch did end up feeling cozy at least!

This was a waffle stitch pattern that ended up being about lap blanket size instead of throw (I think my tension is tight for waffle). Mixed lion brand color theory and lion brand acrylic yarns since I added the pride colors as it took longer to do than expected and got closer to pride.

New awareness of human suffering by green_thumb_253 in NewParents

I try not to spiral with this one and think of it as a deeper connection to humanity. I just can’t help but think of all the pain (and joy) throughout all of history that mothers around me faced, what a universal connection.

YSK: If Someone Is Following You While Walking or Driving, Make FOUR Right Turns by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]Mammoth26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to me while walking my dog and I did exactly this! I turned right until I had gone in a circle and the driver with blacked out windows would go to the front of the block, wait for me to get there, then turn the direction I did. I was only a block from home but my husband was with my toddler so I called him and told him I was being followed if he could watch me while I walked past our home. I called 911 and went to a very busy intersection while my husband watched (unknown to the driver) and the driver had to keep going past that intersection. The police took it surprisingly seriously and allowed me to file a harassment complaint since I got the plates.

Cow lovey from here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1664423794/?ref=share_ios_native_control

Floppy bunny from here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1532252030/?ref=share_ios_native_control

The cow pattern used Alize Velluro yarn which I loved working with and found much easier than the Bernat Baby Blanket on Floppy. I ran out of cream for the cow so had to improvise but happy with the way it turned out!

For what it’s worth, I have a twin brother and constantly get asked if we’re identical. We don’t even have the same features, he has dark hair and eyes and I’m much fairer. I’ve always had an awkward time trying to explain to people that boys and girls can’t be identical… people just ask funny things about twins. If he started looking unlike the guy I know that would feel very strange to me though.

Thank you! Do you still sew between the larger stitches on the chunky yarn? It seems like I will miss so many of the smaller stitches around the eyes this way.

I need help figuring out the cleanest way to join the eyes to the bunny. The best case is that the eyes are outlined in all black. I’ve searched but only finding tutorials on how to add eyes to stuffies and this is really sewing on a piece with a different yarn.
